Book Synopsis Handbook of Polymer-Modified Concrete and Mortars by : Yoshihiko Ohama
Download or read book Handbook of Polymer-Modified Concrete and Mortars written by Yoshihiko Ohama and published by William Andrew. This book was released on 1995-12-31 with total page 247 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Mortar and concrete made with portland cement has been a popular construction material in the world for the past 170 years or more. However, cement mortar and concrete have some disadvantages such as delayed hardening, low tensile strength, large drying shrinkage and low chemical resistance. To reduce these disadvantages, polymers have been utilized as an additive.Polymer-modified or polymer cement mortar (PCM) and concrete (PCC) are the materials which are made by partially replacing the cement hydrate binders of conventional cement mortar or concrete, with polymers. This book deals with the principles of polymer modification for cement composites, the process technology, properties and applications of the polymer-modified mortar and concrete, and special polymer-modified systems such as M DF cement, antiwashout underwater concrete, polymer-ferrocement, and artificial I wood. The polymeric admixtures or cement modifiers include latexes or emulsions, redispersible polymer powders, water-soluble polymers, liquid resins and monomers. This book describes the current knowledge and information of polymer-modified mortars and concretes, and discusses or reviews the following items in detail:1. Principles of polymer modification for cement composites.2. Process technology of polymer-modified mortars and concretes.3. Properties of polymer-modified mortars and concretes.4. Applications of polymer-modified mortars and concretes.5. Special polymer-modified systems such as MDF cements, antiwashout underwater concretes, polymer-ferrocements, and artificial woods.

Book Synopsis A Survey of the Literature on the Size Effect on Material Strength by : H. Leon Harter
Download or read book A Survey of the Literature on the Size Effect on Material Strength written by H. Leon Harter and published by . This book was released on 1977 with total page 464 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Nearly 500 years ago, Leonardo da Vinci observed that long wires are weaker than short wires of the same diameter. The statistical theory of extreme values (weakest-link theory) plays a very important role in studies of the size effect; competing theories include the energy theory and the technological theory. Summaries are given of relevant publications identified in the course of a literature survey on the size effect. Since this survey was motivated by concern about the reliability of large composite aircraft structures, which are now coming into use, special attention is given to the size effect on composite materials and structures. An attempt is made to summarize the present state of knowledge and to identify unsolved problems requiring further research.

Book Synopsis Tribocatalysis, Tribochemistry, and Tribocorrosion by : Czeslaw Kajdas
Download or read book Tribocatalysis, Tribochemistry, and Tribocorrosion written by Czeslaw Kajdas and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2018-05-11 with total page 401 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book focuses on the triboemission of low-energy electrons from the freshly generated surface. These electrons play the most crucial role in the chemical reactions at the tribological interface. New models and TIP (thermodymanics of irreversible processes) describe in detail the behavior of emitted electrons which lower the activation energy of the chemical reactions. This book also highlights tribocatalysis phenomena as examples of the lowering of the activation energy. A book titled Tribocatalysis has never been published before this.
