Download or read book HIV/AIDS in Bangladesh written by Alak Paul and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2020-10-13 with total page 180 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book aims to show the conditions and behaviors of vulnerable and marginalized people in Bangladesh which put them at risk of HIV/AIDS infection, and what their adopted coping strategies are and how these play out. In addition, the book seeks to gain an understanding of the perceptions of civil society and policy planners with respect to vulnerability to HIV, and the necessary mitigation measures. While there is much published literature on the epidemiology and etiology for the most at-risk groups in the region, there has not yet been any in-depth research concerning the socio-cultural and geographic impacts of HIV issues in Bangladesh. Almost all of the literature shows HIV as an epidemiological problem rather than investigating it from a social or cultural point of view, and still less using qualitative methods. The present work is an endeavor to fill these gaps by providing valuable qualitative field data to demonstrate the causes of HIV risk and vulnerability, and to examine the nature of the social and locational context of HIV/AIDS in Bangladesh and to assist with health care policy planning. The book will be of use to students and researchers, studying public health, health geography, medical sociology, medical anthropology, social psychology and social epidemiology, and to professionals in the fields of development, community medicine, health management and social policy.

Book Synopsis Children and Young People Living with HIV/AIDS by : Pranee Liamputtong
Download or read book Children and Young People Living with HIV/AIDS written by Pranee Liamputtong and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-06-14 with total page 512 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book focuses on the issues encountered by children and young people who are living with HIV/AIDS. It examines their lived experiences associated with HIV/AIDS, and studies groups of children and youngsters from around the globe. Connecting empirical information with real-life situations, the book brings together results from empirical research that relates to these children and young people. Its chapters can be used as evidence for health care providers to implement socially and culturally appropriate services to assist individuals and groups of children and young people who are living with HIV/AIDS in many societies. Many of these young people are from the most marginalized and vulnerable groups; and many have been orphaned by the death of their HIV-positive parents. Marginalized young people such as refugees, migrants and street children are most at risk due to the use of illicit drugs, their exposure to unprotected sex (in exchange for food, money and protection), and stigma associated with their marginalized lives. The impact that HIV/AIDS has on the opportunities for these young people to be able to lead healthy adult lives is considerable. This book gives a voice to these children and young people and advances our understanding of their lived experiences and needs.

Book excerpt: This dissertation critically examines HIV/AIDS prevention policy in Bangladesh. The impact of the disease and strengths as well as weaknesses of prevention policy is discussed in this dissertation. Comparative content analysis is employed to analyse the National Policy on HIV/AIDS Prevention of Bangladesh (1997), developed by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. The analysis compares Bangladesh's HIV Prevention Policy with 'Essential Policy Actions for Prevention' proposed by UNAIDS in 2005 in its policy position paper - "Intensifying HIV Prevention' as an international benchmark to find out the strengths and weaknesses of the HIV prevention policy.
