La pratique de l'immersion révèle les insuffisances du droit français à encadrer les activités sous-marines des plongeurs. Les entrepreneurs de travaux maritimes établissent une pratique contractuelle autonome dans les domaines suivants : contrats internationaux de travaux immerges, « accords satellites » à ces contrats (sous-traitance, consortium, joint-venture), contrats administratifs de plongée militaire, contrats de recherche et de plongée expérimentale, contrats de licence de brevet, d’ingénierie et de communication de savoir-faire.
