Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Organosilicon Compounds: Theory and Experiment (Synthesis), volume 1, comprises two parts. The first part, Theory, covers state-of-the-art computational treatments of unusual nonstandard organosilicon compounds that classical bonding theory fails to describe adequately. The second part, Experiment (Synthesis), describes recent synthetic advances in the preparation of a variety of organosilicon compounds with different coordination numbers of the central silicon: from tetracoordinate to low-coordinate to hypercoordinate derivatives. Organosilicon Compounds: From Theory to Synthesis to Applications provides a comprehensive overview of this important area of organic and organometallic chemistry, dealing with compounds containing carbon–silicon bonds. This field, which includes compounds that are widely encountered in commercial products such as in the fabrication of sealants, adhesives, and coatings, has seen many milestone discoveries reported during the last two decades. Beginning with the theoretical aspects of organosilicon compounds’ structure and bonding, the book then explores their synthetic aspects, including main group element organosilicon compounds, transition metal complexes, silicon cages and clusters, low-coordinate organosilicon derivatives (cations, radicals, anions, multiple bonds to silicon, silaaromatics), and more. Next, readers will find valuable sections that explore physical and chemical properties of organosilicon compounds by means of X-ray crystallography, 29Si NMR spectroscopy, photoelectron spectroscopy, and other methods. Finally, the work delves into applications for industrial uses and in many related fields, such as polymers, material science, nanotechnology, bioorganics, and medicinal silicon chemistry. Features valuable contributions from prominent experts that cover both fundamental (theoretical, synthetic, physico-chemical) and applied (material science, applications) aspects of modern organosilicon chemistry Covers important breakthroughs in the field, along with the historically significant achievements of the past Includes applied information for a wide range of specialists, from junior and senior researchers (from both academia and industry) Ideal reference for those working in organometallic, organosilicon, main group element, transition metal, and industrial silicon chemistry, as well as those from interdisciplinary fields, such as polymer, material science, and nanotechnology

Book excerpt: Organosilicon Chemistry provides information pertinent to the fundamental aspects and application of organosilicon chemistry. This book discusses the exact manner and extent of d-orbital involvement in organosilicon compounds in ground, electronic, and transition excited states. Organized into two parts encompassing 21 chapters, this book begins with an overview of preparing stable organosiliconium ions. This text then discusses the use of fused salts as reaction media in the preparative chemistry. Other chapters consider a detailed investigation on the molecular association and volatility of alkoxides of group (IV) elements. This book discusses as well the reaction between dimethyldichlorosilane and ethylene glycon, which has been shown to produce a dimeric ten-membered ring compound. The final chapter deals with the results of the investigations concerning the properties of the contact mass and of the non-volatile silicon-free products, which are produced in the direct synthesis of phenylhalogenosilanes. This book is a valuable resource for chemists and research workers.

In its first part, Experiment (Physico-Chemical Studies), the application of modern instrumental tools (such as X-ray crystallography, 29Si NMR spectroscopy, UV-Photoelectron Spectroscopy, and other methods) for assessing the structures of organosilicon compounds is described. The second part, Applications, reviews the current research in the field of material science, specifically the use of organosilicon compounds in synthetic chemistry directed towards the creation of new materials. Organosilicon Compounds: From Theory to Synthesis to Applications provides a comprehensive overview of this important area of organic and organometallic chemistry, dealing with compounds containing carbon–silicon bonds. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The term "carbon-functional organosilicon compound" is used for organosilicon compounds in which a functional group is bonded to an organic moiety that is in turn con nected to silicon via a Si-C bond. Thus, only Si-Cn-Y com pounds (Y designates a functional group) will be discussed in this book 1 Si-O-Cn-Y compounds will in general not be considered, although the latter group does include a large number of natural substances containing silylated hydroxyl groups. (Because of the differing importance of various Y groups, the reader will find some deviation from this restriction). Finally, compounds containing a silyl group as the functional group are not considered. An overview of the field of organosilicon chemistry would show that in the last several decades the commercial synthesis of organosilicon products has increased substan tially, both in annual production and also in the increasing variety of compounds produced. This increase in the number of commercially available carbon-functional monomers and polymers (silicone polymers) is most remarkable and is occurring because new applications are continually being found for these compounds. As might be expected, the number of publications in this field is also increasing. The important position of silicon in the periodic table - between carbon, aluminum, and phosphorus - means that an understanding of the nature of the bonds in organosilicon compounds is quite important in order to understand the bonding in these other areas.

Book excerpt: Organosilicon Chemistry: 2 provides information pertinent to the fundamental aspects of organosilicon chemistry. This book discusses the organosilicon substituents in anionic rearrangements as well as examines the production of tetrakis allene from a large number of aliphatic and aromatic polyhalogenated compounds. Organized into 14 chapters, this book begins with an overview of the use of organosilyl groups as migrating substituents. This text then examines the development in the chemistry of organosilicon cyclic compounds. Other chapters consider the evidence supporting the intermediacy of silylenes and the general picture of the chemistry of organosilylenes. This book discusses as well the two major approaches for the silylation of polyhalogenated compounds, including the direct reaction of polyhalogenated compounds and the metalation or halogen-metal exchange between the halogenated aromatic compounds and organolithium reagents. The final chapter deals with the importance of hydrosilation. This book is a valuable resource for chemists, scientists, and research workers.
