Book Synopsis Introductory Accounting by : Daniel P. Tinkelman
Download or read book Introductory Accounting written by Daniel P. Tinkelman and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2015-12-22 with total page 595 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Introductory Accounting adopts a measurement approach to teaching graduate students the basics of accounting. Integrating both financial and managerial principles from the U.S. and around the globe, it links accounting to other areas of business (such as finance, operations, and management). Providing students with the context to understand how and why accounting is a valuable part of business, readers will gain an understanding of accounting’s role in financial analysis and managerial decision-making. Tinkelman discusses accounting as an imperfect measurement system, offering guidance on how quantitative data can benefit analysts and managers when used with an understanding of its limitations. The book is strongly grounded in research, and also draws on plenty of examples and cases to bring these issues to life. The conversational style of Introductory Accounting will appeal to MBA students, while key terms and illustrative problems make assignments easy for instructors. Additional materials for students and instructors are available on the book’s companion website.
Book Synopsis Price and Product-Mix Decisions Under Different Cost Systems by : Philipp Plank
Download or read book Price and Product-Mix Decisions Under Different Cost Systems written by Philipp Plank and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-08-29 with total page 152 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Philipp Plank analyses the question, what drives the quality of cost-systems and is the quality of cost-systems directly and at best positively related to the firms’ performance. In other words, is it worth investing in complex cost allocation systems or are there environmental and/or production settings in which less enhanced systems perform adequately. Using simulations, a benchmark firm (first-best solution) perfectly allocating cost to products is compared to firms implementing heuristic cost-allocation schemes (second-best solution) to identify the profit gap resulting from decisions based on limited information. Into this discussion, the idea of cost-stickiness is integrated, thereby indicating a new planning approach.

Download or read book Internal Pricing written by Tim Baldenius and published by Now Publishers Inc. This book was released on 2009 with total page 107 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Internal Pricing surveys of the transfer pricing literature with a focus on commonly-used pricing schemes using incomplete contracting models. Chapter 2 develops the basic symmetric information model to compare the performance of cost-based and negotiated pricing in the absence of external input markets. Chapter 3 considers market-based pricing and the role of internal price adjustments; it ignores investments and focuses solely on trading incentives. Chapter 4 adds investments to the model of Chapter 3 and shows that investment opportunities further strengthen the case for internal adjustments. Chapter 5 reconsiders the initial analysis of Chapter 2 for the case of asymmetrically informed divisional managers. The book ends with the author's conclusions and an appendix including the mathematical proofs. A key theme running through Internal Pricing is that the firm's central office (i.e headquarters) plays a rather limited role in mediating individual transactions. This captures the stylized empirical fact that in most firms, headquarters designs the broad "rules of the game" by choosing a pricing mechanism and compensation contracts, but usually does not get involved in pricing on a product-by-product basis.
