This book was released on 1991-02-01 with total page 193 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When the U.S. Department of the Interior released its 1989 estimates of how much undiscovered oil and gas remain in the United States, a controversy ensued. Some members of the petroleum industry charged that the estimates were too low. This book evaluates the scientific credibility of the statistical and geological methods underlying the estimates.

Book Synopsis Assessing Gas and Oil Resources in the Intermountain West by : Tom LaTourrette
Download or read book Assessing Gas and Oil Resources in the Intermountain West written by Tom LaTourrette and published by Rand Corporation. This book was released on 2002 with total page 75 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The authors examine four recent traditionalassessments of the nation's potential supply of natural gas and oilresources. They suggest a new methodology: estimating viable resource, which is the gas and oil resource that is available when exploration andproduction costs, infrastructure and transportation costs, and environmentalimpacts are considered. This methodology will be used in future research onspecific geographic areas. The authors examine four recent traditional assessments of the nation'spotential supply of natural gas and oil resources. The assessments were doneby the U.S. Geological Survey National Oil and Gas Resource Assessment Team, the Minerals Management Service, the National Petroleum Council, and thePotential Gas Committee. Although the assessments vary, they each indicatethat the Intermountain West contains substantial natural gas and oilresources. Traditional resource assessments, however, are intended toestimate the technically recoverable resource, which does not reflect theamount of resource that can realistically be produced. This report lays thefoundation for determining the viable gas and oil resource: that which isavailable when exploration and production costs, infrastructure andtransportation costs, and environmental impacts are considered. The nextstep in the research will be to apply this methodology to estimate theviable resource in individual geographic areas. The analysis will specifythe relationships among gas and oil deposits, technological options, economic costs, infrastructure requirements, environmental impacts, andother variables to allow for a comprehensive assessment of the viable gasand oil resource.
Book Synopsis Assessing Natural Gas and Oil Resources. An Example of a New Approach in the Greater Green River Basin by :
Download or read book Assessing Natural Gas and Oil Resources. An Example of a New Approach in the Greater Green River Basin written by and published by . This book was released on 2003 with total page 105 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report presents a new approach to assessing natural gas and crude oil resources and the results of applying that approach to the Greater Green River Basin in south- western Wyoming. The methodology builds upon existing assessments of technically recoverable resources by evaluating economic and environmental considerations and including these into the assessment as additional resource attributes. The primary objectives of this effort are to inform government officials and other stakeholders involved in land use planning, development of energy policies, and energy development and utilization planning. The approach aims to guide strategic (i.e., large-scale and long-term) planning, and is not intended to replace existing project-specific economic or land use planning processes.

Book Synopsis Unconventional Oil and Gas Resources Handbook by : Y Zee Ma
Download or read book Unconventional Oil and Gas Resources Handbook written by Y Zee Ma and published by Gulf Professional Publishing. This book was released on 2015-10-06 with total page 550 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Unconventional Oil and Gas Resources Handbook: Evaluation and Development is a must-have, helpful handbook that brings a wealth of information to engineers and geoscientists. Bridging between subsurface and production, the handbook provides engineers and geoscientists with effective methodology to better define resources and reservoirs. Better reservoir knowledge and innovative technologies are making unconventional resources economically possible, and multidisciplinary approaches in evaluating these resources are critical to successful development. Unconventional Oil and Gas Resources Handbook takes this approach, covering a wide range of topics for developing these resources including exploration, evaluation, drilling, completion, and production. Topics include theory, methodology, and case histories and will help to improve the understanding, integrated evaluation, and effective development of unconventional resources. Presents methods for a full development cycle of unconventional resources, from exploration through production Explores multidisciplinary integrations for evaluation and development of unconventional resources and covers a broad range of reservoir characterization methods and development scenarios Delivers balanced information with multiple contributors from both academia and industry Provides case histories involving geological analysis, geomechanical analysis, reservoir modeling, hydraulic fracturing treatment, microseismic monitoring, well performance and refracturing for development of unconventional reservoirs

Book Synopsis Computing Risk for Oil Prospects: Principles and Programs by : J.W. Harbaugh
Download or read book Computing Risk for Oil Prospects: Principles and Programs written by J.W. Harbaugh and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 1995-11-22 with total page 451 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The petroleum industry is enduring difficult financial times because of the continuing depressed price of crude oil on the world market. This has caused major corporate restructuring and reductions in staff throughout the industry. Because oil exploration must now be done with fewer people under more difficult economic constraints, it is essential that the most effective and efficient procedures be used. Computing Risk for Oil Prospects describes how prospect risk assessment — predicting the distribution of financial gains or losses that may result from the drilling of an exploration well — can be done using objective procedures implemented on personal computers. The procedures include analyses of historical data, interpretation of geological and geophysical data, and financial calculations to yield a spectrum of the possible consequences of decisions. All aspects of petroleum risk assessment are covered, from evaluating regional resources, through delineating an individual prospect, to calculation of the financial consequences of alternative decisions and their possible results. The bottom lines are given both in terms of the probable volumes of oil that may be discovered and the expected monetary returns. Statistical procedures are linked with computer mapping and interpretation algorithms, which feed their results directly into routines for financial analysis. The programs in the included library of computer programs are tailored to fit seamlessly together, and are designed for ease and simplicity of operation. The two diskettes supplied are IBM compatible. Full information on loading is given in Appendix A - Software Installation. Risk I diskette contains data files and executables and Risk 2 diskette contains only executables. The authors contend that the explorationist who develops a prospect should be involved in every facet of its analysis, including risk and financial assessments. This book provides the tools necessary for these tasks.
Book Synopsis Statistical Methods for Estimating Petroleum Resources by : P.J. Lee
Download or read book Statistical Methods for Estimating Petroleum Resources written by P.J. Lee and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2008-05-07 with total page 256 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book describes procedures for determining the total hydrocarbon (petroleum) resource or resource potential in a region. Statistical concepts and methods employed in petroleum resource assessment are the subject of the manuscript, extensively illustrated by numerous real case studies. Prof. Lee's computer-aided Petroleum Information Management and Resource Evaluation System (PETRIMES) methodology has been adopted by governments around the world and by major multinational oil companies to perform resource assessment and to predict future oil and gas production. Though this methodology is so widely used, there is no "user's guide" to it, and this book will be the definitive resource for PETRIMES users.
