Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Though it is God who prepares each of us for our entrance into eternity, Kenneth Davis, the author of The Offer of Paradise in Our Lifetime, is convicted that this is not a spectator sport, especially in these moments of history. This volume is a Bible and Spirit of Prophecy-based discourse on the role we have in hastening Christ's return and the end of this sin-tarnished planet. Found within these pages is a prayerful and systematic search into the question of what is keeping the Lord's finishing touches of salvation on hold. Many, even within the household of faith, find themselves troubled over the thought of hearing reports indicating that the end has come. While believing in the second coming, the sense of its imminence is frequently a source of hesitation. Could this have something to do with our uncertainty over whether we are ready or not? With that said, good news is coming. Readers will examine how the power of endurance and readiness, available to young and old, is enlarged by an understanding of God's plan of granting His saints today an indispensable role in the timing of the end. This role encompasses unity on simple but specific commitments of faith. Our reward will be the privilege of claiming the promise of His return within our lifetime as a reality, not speculative sensationalism. This privilege includes a precursor—cooperating with and being filled by the Holy Spirit to an unprecedented measure—that we may ultimately reflect the image of God and more effectively draw a countless multitude from every nation, kindred, and tribe into His fold.

Minnesota Archive Editions uses digital technology to make long-unavailable books once again accessible, and are published unaltered from the original University of Minnesota Press editions. "Usefully complicating common sense understandings of history, catastrophe, loss, otherness, and possibility through reflections on contemporary Jewishness, Boyarin draws on Benjamins's famous image of the Angel of History blown into the future by a "storm from paradise" to constantly interrogate and recuperate the past, "without pretending for long that we can recoup its plentitude". The book's seven thoughtful essays are at times deliberately intangible but always worth reading. An important book for the rethinking of the relevance of Jewishness to anthropology and cultural studies." –Religious Studies Review "An essay in the richest sense of that term, inspired by and modeled on Walter Benjamin's essays. Based on varied, diverse, and abundantly cross-disciplinary readings, it moves and builds, questions and interrogates, and ultimately convinces us that the Jewish experience with being the 'other' and, conversely and recently, with 'othering' is indeed relevant to theorists of contemporary culture." –Marianne Hirsch Jonathan Boyarin is the author of Palestine and Jewish History, and co-editor, with Daniel Boyarin, of Jews and Other Differences and Powers of Diaspora.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Before there was a West, there was Christendom. This book tells the story of how both came to be." (from the Introduction) The Age of Paradise is the first of a projected four-volume history of Christendom, a civilization with a supporting culture that gave rise to what we now call the West. At a time of renewed interest in the future of Western culture, author John Strickland-an Orthodox scholar, professor, and priest-offers a vision rooted in the deep past of the first millennium. At the heart of his story is the early Church's "culture of paradise," an experience of the world in which the kingdom of heaven was tangible and familiar. Drawing not only on worship and theology but statecraft and the arts, the author reveals the remarkably affirmative character Western culture once had under the influence of Christianity-in particular, of Eastern Christendom, which served the West not only as a cradle but as a tutor and guardian as well.

Although she finds good work in her new town, Nora can’t seem to capture Elam’s Englisch-leaning heart, no matter how hard she tries. And then, unexpectedly, Lewis Miller comes from Harmony to offer Nora what every woman needs—a lifetime of unconditional love. As Lewis attempts to claim her heart, Elam’s interest piques. Will Nora come to her senses before Elam’s thoughtless choices ruin her reputation beyond repair?

Book excerpt: If you have ever wondered exactly how we got from the Christian society of the early centuries, united in its faithfulness to apostolic tradition, to the fragmented and secular state of the West today, The Age of Division will answer all your questions and more. In this second of a four-volume cultural history of Christendom, author John Strickland applies insights from the Orthodox Church to trace the decline and disintegration of both East and West after the momentous but often neglected Great Schism. For five centuries, a divided Christendom was led further and further from the culture of paradise that defined its first millennium, resulting in the Protestant Reformation and the secularization that defines our society today.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Most of us have wondered, sometime during our lifetime, about when Adam and Eve were really “expelled from paradise” in the Garden of Eden. Can we find a verifiable and replicable answer to this question? Most of us have questioned, sometime during our lifetime, the “accepted” sequential biblical timeline of Archbishop James Ussher who claimed that 4004 BC was the actual date for that initial biblical event in our current holy scriptures. Was he right? Most of us have questioned, sometime in our lifetime, how the Hebrew’s “accepted” claim that 3761 BC could be the actual date for Adam’s “expulsion.” Were they right? Can we find a way to reconstruct the complete Hebrew Bible timeline, from Adam’s “expulsion” from paradise to our day? Is this possible? Who believes that it can be done? Well, it has been done! Here, is how it is done! To reconstruct the Hebrew Bible timeline, we need to know only the simple math formula that they used! The employment of this simple formula shall enable us to rebuild that same sequential biblical timeline, block by block, in the exact same fashion that the Jewish people “use from the beginning,” at Adam’s “expulsion” from paradise, in the Garden of Eden. The formula used in reconstructing an “actual count” of the Hebrew Bible is found below: 7 × 7 = 49 × 10 = 490 × 10 = 4,900 solar years 7 × 7 = 49 + 1 = 50 × 10 = 500 × 10 = 5,000 lunar years Since both of these 49 solar, and 50 lunar, periods of time contain 18,200 days (approx), we can then “post the number” of any given sequential biblical event in its designated year position on a side-by-side comparison chart. If we “post the number” in this fashion, it will show us exactly when and where, on the timeline chart, there is an error in the sequential computations of any sequential biblical event that is propounded by any biblical chronologist, past or present! In this present book, we find that the Ussher biblical timeline is 112 years “too early.” And the Hebrew biblical timeline of Codex Judaica is 131 years “too late.” Obviously, 3892 BC is the only “year number” that can work for a verifiable timeline! This book, The Holy Bible “Chronicle” of Sequential Biblical Events, by Robert P. Killian, is the fruit of over seventy-year search for that verifiable and replicable answer to the long-sought question: “Can the Ussher biblical timeline be trusted?”

Book excerpt: The way we live, work, and die-alone and with other Americans-have so many hidden layers that we might as well say that there are two Americas: one we think we know and the other virtually unknown to us. Such a thought is compelling enough to motivate a sociologist to start writing down what he thinks about the hidden America. Then, what emerges from this effort is a picture of America that is at once so familiar and so alien. It is the alien part of America that troubles us, that scares us, and that pushes us to escape into louder, more colorful, and more pleasant unreality. As our escapism becomes more urgent each day, so does its testimony to the emptiness and loneliness of our solitary existence. Huer discusses this alien part of America in American Paradise.

Book excerpt: Continuing the epic of Christendom told in earlier volumes, The Age of Paradise and The Age of Division, the author explains how, between the Italian Renaissance of the fourteenth century and the Russian Revolution of the twentieth, secular humanism displaced Christianity to become the source of modern culture. The result was some of the most illustrious music, science, philosophy, and literature ever produced. But the cultural reorientation from paradise to utopia-from an experience of the kingdom of heaven to one bound exclusively by this world-all but eradicated the traditional culture of the West, leaving it at the beginning of the twentieth century without roots in anything transcendent.
