Book excerpt: Now Eye See is the story of challenge and triumph. It is a tale of fortitude and faith in oneself and in God. It chronicles my life from very humble beginnings in Chester, Pa. to Whaleyville, a tiny town on Marylands Eastern Shore to an unlikely and fortuitous journey that carries me to the big city of Manhattan, New York. Now Eye See tells my story of going from picking blueberries and wearing a straw hat on a farm in Maryland to a job as personal secretary to a permanent mission to the United Nations. From being monolingual to self-learning and the adoption of French as a second language, purely as a survival necessity. Although completely unaware of my own familial roots in Music and Journalism, this is my story of a search for a career as a songwriter and professional recording artist. And as a private custodial business owner that suffered disastrously during the economic crises of 2008, which resulted in my own displacement as well as the loss of all my possessions including all evidence of my small successes in the music industry. This is the story of my life and how I have been able and fortunate to reinvent myself to become successful in a new career. This is the narrative of unbelievable luck and a chance conversation in the offices of a New York City hospital. A conversation that spurred a listener to google my name and to help begin the process of recovery and rejuvenation. Of a mysteriously placed photograph taken by a world famous photographer. And of my namesake and nephew whom Id never met: a soldier for the US Army killed in a roadside bombing in IraqOctober 2004. This is the story of the rediscovery of all my work and of my vinyl recordings being offered for sale in eight countries around the world. This then is the unaltered story of my rights and my wrongs. This book was released on 2018-06-11 with total page 140 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "It is scientific and practical, and has been proven conclusively to be of inestimable value. It should enable you to so strengthen your eyes that glasses will not be needed later in life, while in many cases it will enable you to discard the glasses which you may now be wearing; it should also enable many to avoid the loss of a possession priceless in value-the sense of sight." "Truth doesn't expire.Often it simply falls out of favor." Eye Can See Clearly Now is the modern reissue of Bernarr Macfadden's 1924-now public domain--work, Strengthening the EYES A System of Scientific Eye Training, under a new title, with the goal of maintaining public access to this vital information in new formats. It is a sad fact of our modern existence that practically everything we've been told, taught and led to believe--particularly about the body, health, sickness, and healing--is, quite frankly, wrong. Don't look at the sun. Glasses can correct your vision. Astigmatism is incurable. Myopia is hereditary. These and other myths, untruths and even "food crimes" are revealed within the pages of Eye Can See Clearly Now. Don't let the original copyright date fool you, truth is timeless. The human body hasn't changed since 1924. Macfadden's work underscores the Ageless Adept philosophy that the universe is perfect, nature is foolproof, the body is coded to heal and that our access to real and lasting cure exist by design as an instinctive part of natural law as well as that pre-wired, inborn coding. In order to sustain vitality, one need only replicate the earth's original, pristine conditions of sunlight, air, water, sun earth and (real) food. As insightful as his conclusions are, Macfadden, like many authors, was limited by the worldview of his culture and times. Consequently, certain content may not "pass" today's standards of political correctness. The reader who can make allowances for the biases of his time and dig below a few politically incorrect references, will uncover and rescue the underlying philosophy which is, at its core, unassailable: that in his quest for health and youth, man is best served by natural means. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Losing your eyesight is a frightening thought. Yet, every five seconds someone in the world goes blind. Most causes of visual impairment are caused by age-related diseases such as cataracts, glaucoma, macular degeneration, and diabetic retinopathy. Modern medicine has no cure for these conditions. Treatment usually involves managing the symptoms and attempting to slow the progression of the disease. In some cases surgery is an option, but there is always the danger of adverse side effects that can damage the eyes even further. Most chronic progressive eye disorders are considered incurable, hopeless. However, there is a successful treatment. It doesn’t involve surgery, drugs, or invasive medical procedures. All that is needed is a proper diet. The key to this diet is coconut, specifically coconut oil. The author used this method to cure is own glaucoma, something standard medical therapy is unable to do. The coconut based dietary program described in this book has the potential to help prevent and treat many common visual problems including the following: ● Cataracts ● Glaucoma ● Macular degeneration ● Diabetic retinopathy ● Dry eye syndrome ● Sjogren’s syndrome ● Optic neuritis ● Irritated eyes ● Conjunctivitis (pink eye) ● Stroke ● Eye disorders related to neurodegenerative disease (Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, MS) Most chronic eye disorders come without warning. No one can tell who will develop a visual handicap as they age. Everybody is at risk. Once the disease is present, treatment is a lifelong process. The best solution is prevention. In this book, you will learn the basic underlying causes for the most common degenerative eye disorders and what you can do to prevent, stop, and even reverse them.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Eyes were one of the very first body parts to evolve more than 500 million years ago, and their structure has remained virtually unchanged through most of evolutionary history. But eyes alone were never enough for Homo sapiens. From the mastery of fire a million years ago to the smartphone today, humans have repeatedly invented new ways to see their surroundings, each other and themselves. Artificial light, art, mirrors, writing, lenses, printing, photography, film, television, smartphones – these tools didn't just add to our visual repertoire, they shaped cultures around the world and made us who we are. Drawing on sources from anthropology to zoology, neuroscience to Netflix, As Far As the Eye Can See traces the history of seeing from the first evolutionary stirrings of sight and discovers that each time we changed how or what we see, we changed ourselves and the world around us. Along the way, it finds, sight slowly eclipsed our other senses. Are we now at 'peak seeing', the author asks. Can our eyes keep up with technology? Have we gone as far as the eye can see?

Book excerpt: The ability to see deeply affects how human beings perceive and interpret the world around them. For most people, eyesight is part of everyday communication, social activities, educational and professional pursuits, the care of others, and the maintenance of personal health, independence, and mobility. Functioning eyes and vision system can reduce an adult's risk of chronic health conditions, death, falls and injuries, social isolation, depression, and other psychological problems. In children, properly maintained eye and vision health contributes to a child's social development, academic achievement, and better health across the lifespan. The public generally recognizes its reliance on sight and fears its loss, but emphasis on eye and vision health, in general, has not been integrated into daily life to the same extent as other health promotion activities, such as teeth brushing; hand washing; physical and mental exercise; and various injury prevention behaviors. A larger population health approach is needed to engage a wide range of stakeholders in coordinated efforts that can sustain the scope of behavior change. The shaping of socioeconomic environments can eventually lead to new social norms that promote eye and vision health. Making Eye Health a Population Health Imperative: Vision for Tomorrow proposes a new population-centered framework to guide action and coordination among various, and sometimes competing, stakeholders in pursuit of improved eye and vision health and health equity in the United States. Building on the momentum of previous public health efforts, this report also introduces a model for action that highlights different levels of prevention activities across a range of stakeholders and provides specific examples of how population health strategies can be translated into cohesive areas for action at federal, state, and local levels.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A NEW YORK TIMES NOTABLE BOOK • The dramatic story of the Flint water crisis, by a relentless physician who stood up to power. “Stirring . . . [a] blueprint for all those who believe . . . that ‘the world . . . should be full of people raising their voices.’”—The New York Times “Revealing, with the gripping intrigue of a Grisham thriller.” —O: The Oprah Magazine Here is the inspiring story of how Dr. Mona Hanna-Attisha, alongside a team of researchers, parents, friends, and community leaders, discovered that the children of Flint, Michigan, were being exposed to lead in their tap water—and then battled her own government and a brutal backlash to expose that truth to the world. Paced like a scientific thriller, What the Eyes Don’t See reveals how misguided austerity policies, broken democracy, and callous bureaucratic indifference placed an entire city at risk. And at the center of the story is Dr. Mona herself—an immigrant, doctor, scientist, and mother whose family’s activist roots inspired her pursuit of justice. What the Eyes Don’t See is a riveting account of a shameful disaster that became a tale of hope, the story of a city on the ropes that came together to fight for justice, self-determination, and the right to build a better world for their—and all of our—children. Praise for What the Eyes Don’t See “It is one thing to point out a problem. It is another thing altogether to step up and work to fix it. Mona Hanna-Attisha is a true American hero.”—Erin Brockovich “A clarion call to live a life of purpose.”—The Washington Post “Gripping . . . entertaining . . . Her book has power precisely because she takes the events she recounts so personally. . . . Moral outrage present on every page.”—The New York Times Book Review “Personal and emotional. . . She vividly describes the effects of lead poisoning on her young patients. . . . She is at her best when recounting the detective work she undertook after a tip-off about lead levels from a friend. . . . ‛Flint will not be defined by this crisis,’ vows Ms. Hanna-Attisha.”—The Economist “Flint is a public health disaster. But it was Dr. Mona, this caring, tough pediatrican turned detective, who cracked the case.”—Rachel Maddow

Book excerpt: A revelatory account of the brain's capacity for change When neuroscientist Susan Barry was fifty years old, she experienced the sense of immersion in a three dimensional world for the first time. Skyscrapers on street corners appeared to loom out toward her like the bows of giant ships. Tree branches projected upward and outward, enclosing and commanding palpable volumes of space. Leaves created intricate mosaics in 3D. Barry had been cross-eyed and stereoblind since early infancy. After half a century of perceiving her surroundings as flat and compressed, on that day she saw the city of Manhattan in stereo depth for first time in her life. As a neuroscientist, she understood just how extraordinary this transformation was, not only for herself but for the scientific understanding of the human brain. Scientists have long believed that the brain is malleable only during a "critical period" in early childhood. According to this theory, Barry's brain had organized itself when she was a baby to avoid double vision - and there was no way to rewire it as an adult. But Barry found an optometrist who prescribed a little-known program of vision therapy; after intensive training, Barry was ultimately able to accomplish what other scientists and even she herself had once considered impossible. Dubbed "Stereo Sue" by renowned neurologist Oliver Sacks, Susan Barry tells her own remarkable journey and celebrates the joyous pleasure of our senses.
