Book excerpt: Excerpt from North Carolina Cancer Registry, 1971 Local hospital registries maintain periodic lifelong follow-up of cancer patients and issue reports to medical staffs concerning the diagnosis, treatment, and survival of these patients. The central registry serves to coordinate the activities of the local registries, with the goal of develop ing a uniform, comprehensive method for collecting, storing, and retrieving data that will be helpful in providing better care for present and future victims of cancer.
