Book excerpt: From award-winning author Kathleen Krull comes an empowering picture book biography--with dazzling illustrations from artist Nancy Zhang--about the second female justice of the Supreme Court, Ruth Bader Ginsburg. This nonfiction picture book is an excellent choice to share during homeschooling, in particular for children ages 4 to 6. It's a fun way to learn to read and as a supplement for activity books for children. Ruth Bader Ginsburg may be one of the most respected women in the United States, but her recognition is nothing short of hard-won. For years before becoming a justice of the Supreme Court, Ruth had to fight the notion that being female meant that she was less smart, less qualified, and less worthy of attention than her male counterparts. Throughout college, law school, and her work life, she faced discrimination--because she was a woman. But it was in her fight for equality as a lawyer that she made an imprint on American history, by changing the way the law dealt with women's rights and by showing people that unfairness to women wasn't just a female problem--that it negatively affected men and children, too. In this inspiring picture book from award-winning author Kathleen Krull and artist Nancy Zhang, readers will learn about Ruthless Ruthie--a warrior for equality, defender of justice, and a trailblazer for girls everywhere.

I walked through a life-long, hurt filled as well as many racist experiences. "My milk chocolate self was offensive to the world, especially to the African American Man." Growing up within the 70's the very most of my lessons were learned through heart ache and pain. The ultimate lesson of whom Love is at the exact same time taught me exactly what love does and or does not do. YAHWEH thank You Father for Your Graces and Mercies within waiting for me to get it together. Once I was able to allow YAHWEH to heal my broken heart as He finally made me sit still in January of 2013 and I had no choice but to finally listen. By way of me having my very first exacerbation and then being diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. I was feeling as if I were dying, extremely confused, mentally lost and desperate and I was afraid and scared. Something I had never been in my entire life for no amount of reason. Now pleading and crying for one more chance to obey YAHWEH's beacon. For a month in the Hospital and then rehab. I prayed, I begged, I finally submitted. Father please, I'll get it done this time. It took some time for me to get any of my unconfused thoughts in order and I am still not 100 % myself. However, I am getting there. Even the fact that I am writing this book is a great faith builder for myself. I am smiling all over the place. Thank YOU YAHWEH Deborah LaDon Scott was born November 29th, 1973, in Detroit, Michigan, moving from the Eastside and North End to Northwest and finally Southwest Detroit within the multicultural neighborhoods. She lived in Ohio--Gates Mills for one year, Eastside close to East Cleveland for one year, and finally Lakewood, Ohio, the multicultural neighborhood, for four years and then came back home.

Book excerpt: Not What You Think blows the dust off dated misperceptions of the Bible and engages the problems of this book head-on--the parts that make modern readers squeamish, skeptical, and uncertain. If you're skeptical about the Bible, you're not alone. The Bible is seen by many contemporary readers as intolerant, outdated, out of step with societal norms at best, and a tool of oppression at worst. In this earnest and illuminating read, millennial thought leaders and aspiring theologians Michael and Lauren McAfee are here to say: fair enough. But they're also here to raise a few questions of their own: What if we cleared the deck on our preconceptions of the Bible and encountered it anew? What if we came with the understanding that our questions are welcome? And what if the Bible presents less of a system to figure out, and more of a story to step into--a story with more surprising plot twists than we might think? Michael and Lauren spent their childhoods in church and Sunday school, they spent part of their twenties finding their way in the world in New York City, and today they're shaping their careers while pursuing doctoral studies in theology and ethics. Along the way, they've had to wrangle very real questions--both their own, and of their friends--about why, where, and how the most controversial book in history fits in our world today. Join Michael and Lauren as they explore the nature of the Bible--an ancient mosaic of story, literature, history, and poetry--and what it means for this generation and its relationship with God. Ultimately, Not What You Think is an invitation to come and see, and be surprised.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How to live happily ever after if your prince or princess never shows up There are more singles in--and out of--the church today than ever before. Wendy Widder knows the struggles of being single from the inside out, and she has something to say. While there is no shortage of books about singlehood on the market, Widder's approach is markedly different. In Living Whole Without a Better Half readers study the character in Hebrews 11. Widder uses these Biblical examples to show readers how to embrace singleness as an abundant life and a God-given gift, not as an unfortunate stage they should move past as quickly as possible. By examining the lives of biblical heroes such as Abraham, Moses, and Jacob, she reveals that trying to bargain with God to follow our plans and timing often keeps us from appreciating the opportunities he places in our path. Widder makes her case with wit and a wry humor that readers will appreciate and come back to again and again. Now with updated statistics, and a new preface, Living Whole Without a Better Half includes study questions that make it a great Bible study or small group resource.

In his latest book, Francis Chan joins together with his wife Lisa to address the question many couples wonder at the altar: “How do I have a healthy marriage?” Setting aside typical topics on marriage, Francis and Lisa dive into Scripture to understand what it means to have a relationship that satisfies the deepest parts of our souls. In the same way Crazy Love changed the way we saw our personal relationship with God, You and Me Forever: Marriage in Light of Eternity will radically shift the way we see one of the most important relationships in our life. Jesus was right. We have it all backwards. The way to have a great marriage is by not focusing on marriage. Whether you are single, dating or married, You and Me Forever will help you discover the adventure that you were made for and learn how to thrive in it. 100% of the net proceeds from this book will support various ministries including those that help provide shelter and rehabilitation for thousands of children and exploited women around the world. Her granddaughter Nicole DuBose, a successful journalist in New York City, returns to Lynwood to care for her grandmother. Rush arrives from DC and investigates the crimes with Lee Mercer, a seasoned local FBI special agent. Their partnership is tested as they clash over how far to go to catch the racists before the violence escalates. Rush’s role in the case becomes even more complicated after he falls for DuBose. When crucial evidence becomes compromisethreatening to upend what should be a celebrated conviction—the lines between right and wrong, black and white, collide with deadly consequences.
