Book excerpt: In this “propulsive” (Kimberly McCreight) debut thriller, a young woman questions everything she thought she knew about the shocking murder that changed her life when she was in high school. “Wildly suspenseful and almost gothic in tone.”—BookPage Ten years ago, my boyfriend killed my best friend. When Micah Wilkes was a senior in high school, her boyfriend was convicted of murdering her best friend, Emily, a star ballerina with a bright future. A decade later, Micah has finally moved on from the unforgivable betrayal and loss. Now the owner of a bustling coffee shop in her small hometown in Pennsylvania, she’s happily coupled up with another old high school friend, the two having bonded over their shared sorrow. But when reminders of her past begin appearing at her work and home, Micah begins to doubt what she knows about Emily’s death. Questions raised on a true crime blog and in an online web sleuthing forum force her to reexamine her memories of that fateful night. She told the truth to the investigators on the case, but was there another explanation for Emily’s murder? A stranger in the woods. An obsessive former classmate. A domineering ballet instructor. Or the internet’s favorite suspect: Joshua, Emily’s outcast younger brother who hasn’t been seen since his sister’s death. As Micah delves deeper into the case, she feels her grip on reality loosening, her behavior growing more and more secretive and unhinged. As she races to piece together the truth about that night ten years ago, Micah grapples with how things could have gone so wrong and wonders whether she, too, might be next to disappear.

Under fear of imminent invasion, the WARDs guide pilots into blacked-out airstrips and track unidentified planes across Pacific skies. Book Synopsis Thyroid Care: A Nine-Step Program for Busy Women by : Anisa Abeytia
Download or read book Thyroid Care: A Nine-Step Program for Busy Women written by Anisa Abeytia and published by A&Y Publishing. This book was released on 2024-02-02 with total page 161 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The prevalence of abnormal thyroid function (hypothyroidism) in the United States is at an increase, despite inadequate screening methods, which leave the true numbers in question. Amongst those that are diagnosed and treated for hypothyroidism there remains a significant population that does not respond to conventional treatment. There are also those who are undiagnosed and are considered subclinical and remain untreated, many progress to hypothyroidism. These two groups may suffer from secondary hypothyroidism (not stemming from an organic disturbance in the pituitary or thyroid gland), the natural history of which may be unknown. Currently there is a lack of a comprehensive, clinically holistic approach to regaining thyroid health. The literature reflects a unidimensional approach to treatment or a primary dependence on pharmaceuticals. The current attempts at approaching the topic holistically either lack a clear process or exclude important aspects of treatment (i.e. nutrition and the psychological aspects). As such, the author was prompted to create a Nine Step program to address issues that surround thyroid health. This book outlines a Nine Step Program to regain thyroid health that is developed from both a review of the literature as well as from case studies gathered from working with hypothyroid clients. The author includes aspects that are neglected in other protocols and includes a three day menu plan as well as a Nine Step Supplementation and Practical Application Suggestions to insure clinical relevance of the program.

Download or read book Saving Sara written by Sara Somers and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2020-05-12 with total page 271 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For nearly fifty years, Sara Somers suffered from untreated food addiction. In this brutally honest and intimate memoir, Somers offers readers an inside view of a food addict’s mind, showcasing her experiences of obsessive cravings, compulsivity, and powerlessness regarding food. Saving Sara chronicles Somers’s addiction from childhood to adulthood, beginning with abnormal eating as a nine-year-old. As her addiction progresses in young adulthood, she becomes isolated, masking her shame and self-hatred with drugs and alcohol. Time and again, she rationalizes why this time will be different, only to have her physical cravings lead to ever-worse binges, to see her promises of doing things differently next time broken, and to experience the amnesia that she—like every addict—experiences when her obsession sets in again. Even after Somers is introduced to the solution that will eventually end up saving her, the strength of her addiction won’t allow her to accept her disease. Twenty-six more years pass until she finally crawls on hands and knees back to that solution, and learns to live life on life’s terms. A raw account of Somers’s decades-long journey, Saving Sara underscores the challenges faced by food addicts of any age—and the hope that exists for them all.
