Book Synopsis A Complete Concordance to the Greek Bible by : Roman Mazur
Download or read book A Complete Concordance to the Greek Bible written by Roman Mazur and published by Vandenhoeck & Ruprecht. This book was released on 2023-05-15 with total page 17342 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A Complete Concordance to the Greek Bible is very extensive, therefore it was published in pdf-format which greatly facilitates the search for specific words or phrases. All the words are ordered according to the Greek alphabet and the alphabetical order covers both the word sought and its immediate, two-sided context. Although previous concordances were also arranged alphabetically, the verses with a specific word were given according to the biblical canon. In this Concordance each word is listed in its preceding and following context. Consequently, one can immediately find biblical quotations, paraphrases and other similar passages on the same topic. Since it is a textual concordance, all words are given in their textual forms. Provided here is the first contextual full concordance to the full Greek Bible: Septuagint with its parallel texts and Greek New Testament. Four colors are given in order to create a new category of distinction between the text sources. They characterize separately the texts and references of Septuagint (green), parallel texts (red) and New Testament (blue). The following context is arranged in alphabetical order and this choice is favoring in easy way the possibility to note the presence of all synoptic phenomena.
Book Synopsis Semitisms in Luke's Greek by : Albert Hogeterp
Download or read book Semitisms in Luke's Greek written by Albert Hogeterp and published by Mohr Siebeck. This book was released on 2018-04-23 with total page 684 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Gospel of Luke has long been known for its variation between good, educated Greek and Semitic influences. In the last century, five theories have attempted to explain the Semitic influence: Semitic sources; imitation of the Greek Bible; the Greek of the ancient synagogue; literary code-switching between standard Greek and semitized Greek; and the social background of bilingualism. Albert Hogeterp and Adelbert Denaux revisit Luke's Greek and evaluate which alleged Semitisms of vocabulary and syntax are tenable in light of comparative investigation across corpora of Greek, Hebrew, and Aramaic, literary as well as documentary, texts. They contend that Semitisms in Luke's Greek are only fully understood in light of a complementarity of linguistic backgrounds, and evaluate them in diachronic respect of Synoptic comparison and in synchronic respect of their place in Luke's narrative style and communicative strategy.
Download or read book How Hysterical written by E. Runions and published by Springer. This book was released on 2003-08-01 with total page 225 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How Hysterical reads scenes from the films Light It Up , Three Kings , Remember the Titans , Paris is Burning , Boys Don't Cry , and Magnolia alongside biblical texts from Numbers , Exodus , Isaiah , Micah , Ezekiel and Revelation . An innovation in studies on Bible and film, How Hysterical is less centred on direct citation of the Bible in film than on analyses of hypostasized biblical influence in culture. Here, through accessible engagement with feminist, queer, post-colonial and ideological critical theories, Runions discusses the processes by which biblical and filmic texts can both bolster and disrupt identifications with the norms that drive politics and culture.
Book Synopsis A Prophet in Debate by : Karl Möller
Download or read book A Prophet in Debate written by Karl Möller and published by A&C Black. This book was released on 2003-01-01 with total page 369 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An investigation of the literary structure and rhetorical challenge that prompted the book's production. Moller argues that the book of Amos captures and presents the debate between Amos and his eighth-century audience. When read in the light of Israel's fall, the presentation of Amos struggling (and failing) to convince his contemporaries of the imminent divine punishment functions as a powerful warning to subsequent Judaean readers.
Book Synopsis Implied Law in the Abraham Narrative by : James K. Bruckner
Download or read book Implied Law in the Abraham Narrative written by James K. Bruckner and published by A&C Black. This book was released on 2002-01-01 with total page 266 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A study of the significance of implied law in the Abraham narrative. Bruckner examines legal and juridical terminology in the text, with a close reading of legal referents in Genesis 18.16-20.18. He demonstrates that the literary and theological context of implied law in the narrative is creational, since the implied cosmology is based in Creator-created relationships, and the narrative referents are prior to the Sinai covenant. The narrative's canonical position is an ipso jure argument for the operation of law from the beginning of the ancestral community. The study suggests trajectories for further research in reading law within narrative texts, pentateuchal studies, and Old Testament ethics.
Book Synopsis Paul and God's Temple by : Albert L. A. Hogeterp
Download or read book Paul and God's Temple written by Albert L. A. Hogeterp and published by Peeters Publishers. This book was released on 2006 with total page 512 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Paul addresses his readers as God's Temple in his Letters to the Corinthians, which are among the earliest documents of Christianity. This volume provides a synthesis of the historical and exegetical dimensions to Paul's cultic imagery. Previous theories (spiritualisation, substitution, comparative religions approach) cannot stand in view of the analysis of the broader historical context as well as reconsideration of Paul's theological perspective. This historical interpretation integrates relevant Qumran texts published since the 1990's, insights about the early Jesus-movement's Jewish origins, and canonical as well as extra-canonical Gospels in the discussion about cultic imagery. Paul and God's Temple sheds new light on Paul's relation to contemporary Judaism and temple-theological traditions, while putting Paul's cultic imagery in a rhetorical-critical and reader-oriented perspective.
Book Synopsis Animal Metaphors and the People of Israel in the Book of Jeremiah by : Benjamin Foreman
Download or read book Animal Metaphors and the People of Israel in the Book of Jeremiah written by Benjamin Foreman and published by Vandenhoeck & Ruprecht. This book was released on 2011-10-06 with total page 298 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Though interest in the use of metaphor in the Hebrew Bible has gained momentum in recent years, there is, to date, no investigation which concentrates exclusively on the animal metaphors in the book of Jeremiah. In this book, the author brings to light this neglected area of study by examining the language and imagery of the animal metaphors for the people of Israel in the book of Jeremiah. The contribution that these metaphors make to the theology of the book is given special attention, and since different interpretations have been given to many of the metaphors in question, the author resolves some of the questions regarding the meaning of these images in his in-depth study. Additionally, scholars have not tended to research metaphors for the nation of Israel and thus this volume draws attention to a particular subject which has largely been overlooked. In chapter one Foreman familiarizes the reader with the major theoretical approaches to metaphor and spells out the approach taken in his investigation. Eighteen metaphors are then thoroughly analyzed in chapters two, three, and four. These metaphors are grouped into three categories, each of which constitutes a chapter: pastoral metaphors, mammal metaphors, and bird metaphors. Chapter five draws the results of the inquiry together. This study reveals how animal metaphors make important theological claims about the nation of Israel and demonstrates that they are essential elements of the message of the book of Jeremiah. Foreman's elucidation of the language and imagery of the animal metaphors for the people of Israel leads to a richer understanding of these metaphors and ultimately contributes to a more precise interpretation of the message of the book of Jeremiah as a whole.

Book Synopsis The History of the Second Temple Period by : Paolo Sacchi
Download or read book The History of the Second Temple Period written by Paolo Sacchi and published by A&C Black. This book was released on 2004-12-13 with total page 534 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book represents the fruit of a long process of study and reflection, a powerful but subtle synthesis, by one of the most eminent scholars of Second-Temple Judaism. Far from a conventional narrative history, it is organized around themes and seeks to uncover the essence of Hebraic/Jewish religious thinking while confronting the phenomenon of its division into several 'parties' and traditions. Drawing also on recent studies of Christianity as a 'Judaism', Sacchi provides a stimulating perspective on the nature of ancient Oriental and Occidental thought and the intellectual and spiritual heritage of European civilization.
Book Synopsis The Copper Scroll - 3Q15: A Reevaluation by : Judah K. Lefkovits
Download or read book The Copper Scroll - 3Q15: A Reevaluation written by Judah K. Lefkovits and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2018-11-26 with total page 614 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume deals with the Copper Scroll, an almost two thousand year old cryptic proto-Mishnaic Hebrew Dead Sea document. It is the largest known ancient text to have ever been recorded on metal. The Introduction covers the nature and site of the discovery, opening of the two brittle oxidized copper rolls, deciphering the text, controversy about genuineness of the content, etc. The in-depth study presents the primary major studies, and offers a new reading, translation, and interpretation, including alternatives, as well as detailed studies of some unique aspects. The analysis is based on Rabbinical Jewish sources originating largely in the same historical era. This results into a more reliable interpretation of the Copper Scroll which probably originates from the Priestly leaders of Jerusalem, and contains a list of the hidden treasures of the Second Temple before its destruction by the Romans.

Book Synopsis A Thesaurus of English Word Roots by : Horace Gerald Danner
Download or read book A Thesaurus of English Word Roots written by Horace Gerald Danner and published by Rowman & Littlefield. This book was released on 2014-03-27 with total page 1007 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Horace G. Danner’s A Thesaurus of English Word Roots is a compendium of the most-used word roots of the English language. As Timothy B. Noone notes in his foreword: “Dr. Danner’s book allows you not only to build up your passive English vocabulary, resulting in word recognition knowledge, but also gives you the rudiments for developing your active English vocabulary, making it possible to infer the meaning of words with which you are not yet acquainted. Your knowledge can now expand and will do so exponentially as your awareness of the roots in English words and your corresponding ability to decode unfamiliar words grows apace. This is the beginning of a fine mental linguistic library: so enjoy!” In A Thesaurus of English Word Roots, all word roots are listed alphabetically, along with the Greek or Latin words from which they derive, together with the roots’ original meanings. If the current meaning of an individual root differs from the original meaning, that is listed in a separate column. In the examples column, the words which contain the root are then listed, starting with their prefixes, for example, dysacousia, hyperacousia. These root-starting terms then are followed by terms where the root falls behind the word, e.g., acouesthesia and acoumeter. These words are followed by words where the root falls in the middle or the end, as in such terms as bradyacusia and odynacusis.. In this manner, A Thesaurus of English Word Roots places the word in as many word families as there are elements in the word. This work will interest linguists and philologists and anyone interested in the etymological aspects of English language.
