Download or read book Neural Networks: Best Practice In Europe - Proceedings Of The Stichting Neurale Netwerken Conference 1997, Progre written by Bert Kappen and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1998-01-15 with total page 226 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: After the explosion of research on neural networks in the eighties, the nineties have seen a boom in industrial applications of neural networks. In contrast to the large output of publications in international neural network journals, which reflects the increase in neural network research, the large number of successful applications are less accessible. To make a survey of successful applications in industry in Europe, a project called SIENA was initiated with support from the European Community. The aim of SIENA was to assess the business impact of neural networks. Data were collected on both the supplier side and the end-user side of the market. In addition, case studies of successful 'money-making' applications using neural networks were gathered. This book contains detailed descriptions of some of the applications.

Book Synopsis Statistical Learning Theory by : Vladimir Naumovich Vapnik
Download or read book Statistical Learning Theory written by Vladimir Naumovich Vapnik and published by Wiley-Interscience. This book was released on 1998-09-30 with total page 778 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A comprehensive look at learning and generalization theory. The statistical theory of learning and generalization concerns the problem of choosing desired functions on the basis of empirical data. Highly applicable to a variety of computer science and robotics fields, this book offers lucid coverage of the theory as a whole. Presenting a method for determining the necessary and sufficient conditions for consistency of learning process, the author covers function estimates from small data pools, applying these estimations to real-life problems, and much more.
Book Synopsis The Oxytocin Factor by : Kerstin Uvnas Moberg
Download or read book The Oxytocin Factor written by Kerstin Uvnas Moberg and published by Da Capo Press. This book was released on 2003-09-18 with total page 226 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In recent years there have been exciting scientific discoveries about a powerful hormone whose role in the human body has long been neglected. Oxytocin is the hormone involved in bonding, sex, childbirth, and breast-feeding, as well as in relaxation and feelings of calm. It is the mirror image of the stress hormone (adrenaline), which triggers the "fight or flight" systems in the body. Much has been written about the latter but the many-sided importance of oxytocin is currently known only to specialists in obstetrics, physiology, and psychiatry. The Oxytocin Factor, by Dr. Kerstin Uvnäs-Moberg, is the first book on the subject for a general audience. The new research findings, as well as the potentially beneficial applications of this hormone in reducing anxiety states, stress, addictions, and problems of childbirth, are not only fascinating but of great significance to all our lives.

Book Synopsis The Winner Effect by : Ian Robertson
Download or read book The Winner Effect written by Ian Robertson and published by A&C Black. This book was released on 2012-01-01 with total page 322 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What makes a winner? Why do some succeed both in life and in business, and others fail? And why do a few individuals end up supremely powerful, while many remain powerless? Are men more likely to be power junkies than women? The 'winner effect' is a term used in biology to describe how an animal that has won a few fights against weak opponents is much more likely to win later bouts against stronger contenders. As Ian Robertson reveals, it applies to humans, too.Success changes the chemistry of the brain, making you more focused, smarter, more confident and more aggressive. The effect is as strong as any drug. And the more you win, the more you will go on to win. But the downside is that winning can become physically addictive.By understanding what the mental and physical changes are that take place in the brain of a 'winner', how they happen, and why they affect some people more than others, Robertson answers the question of why some people attain and then handle success better than others. He explains what makes a winner - or a loser - and how we can use the answers to these questions to understand better the behaviour of our business colleagues, employees, family and friends.

Book Synopsis Mining User Generated Content by : Marie-Francine Moens
Download or read book Mining User Generated Content written by Marie-Francine Moens and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2014-01-28 with total page 476 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Originating from Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, and many other networking sites, the social media shared by users and the associated metadata are collectively known as user generated content (UGC). To analyze UGC and glean insight about user behavior, robust techniques are needed to tackle the huge amount of real-time, multimedia, and multilingual data. Researchers must also know how to assess the social aspects of UGC, such as user relations and influential users. Mining User Generated Content is the first focused effort to compile state-of-the-art research and address future directions of UGC. It explains how to collect, index, and analyze UGC to uncover social trends and user habits. Divided into four parts, the book focuses on the mining and applications of UGC. The first part presents an introduction to this new and exciting topic. Covering the mining of UGC of different medium types, the second part discusses the social annotation of UGC, social network graph construction and community mining, mining of UGC to assist in music retrieval, and the popular but difficult topic of UGC sentiment analysis. The third part describes the mining and searching of various types of UGC, including knowledge extraction, search techniques for UGC content, and a specific study on the analysis and annotation of Japanese blogs. The fourth part on applications explores the use of UGC to support question-answering, information summarization, and recommendations.
