Book Synopsis God, Grace and Grandpa by : Charles J. Grams
Download or read book God, Grace and Grandpa written by Charles J. Grams and published by Page Publishing Inc. This book was released on 2022-02-03 with total page 255 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is the true story of a boy who grows up with a great and wonderful man, the love of Christ, and the harsh journey he takes to understanding grace. The desire to follow in his grandfather's footsteps is so overpowering that nothing else matters. The older the boy becomes, the harder to enjoy life outside of his grandfather's presence becomes. The turmoil of his parents and schoolmates causes great distress and pain throughout the rest of his life. The desire to be a friend to everyone and receive the love of others is tragically destroyed by the harshness of children and adults that don't know the love of Christ or care for other's emotions. The daily grind of mean children as well as schoolteachers causes this child to question who he is and if anyone can love him other than his grandfather. A true desire to understand God and understand those around him becomes too heavy, and the emotional distress that this causes nearly puts an end to this young life. Only the love of Jesus and his grandfather keeps him on the correct path of life. Fighting through the harder years of teenage life, trying to prove his worth to his father, dealing with a religious mother and the hatred of others--this story is how a young man becomes an exceptional athlete as well as a cocky womanizer. He hardens himself to those that have hurt him through the years, including his own family. The desire for his father to accept him becomes a lost cause, and he separates himself from his religious mother to go his own way. He never loses his love for his grandfather and the faith he has in God. There are harsh and emotional situations in this book. It may be hard to understand how people can be so cruel to those who want nothing more than to love and be a part of their life. This book will show you that even though you may not realize it, the Lord is with you even in times of distress. We all look for the answers in life and why we go through the things we do. This shows us that no matter what you go through there is one who is always with you and will help you get through anything. I truly believe you will enjoy this book and believe and pray the message is loud and clear. May the Lord bless you and keep you.

As she thought about that, she began to write the memories of things that had happened during her life. She thought it would be fun to share her memories with her community. She began writing a new story each week for her local newspaper. She had so many folks telling her as each story was written how much they enjoyed it. Then they started encouraging her to write a book! As the memories continued to flood her mind and folks told her how much they enjoyed her stories, she decided why not! She began gathering the memories she had shared and adding more as they continued to come to her. Some of them were FUN stories and some were fond memories of family and friends that were around her family as she grew up. Memories of her family members and all they did on the farm flooded back to her. Each story reminded her of another one. The pages grew and grew! She wishes her mom and dad had lived to be able to read the book. She can almost hear her dad saying, “So, Tut Tut, you think you are a writer now.” He would have been so proud. Her mom would have been even more! She can hear her saying, “Anna Marie!” or “That’s My Anna!” She is so glad that Mom and Dad adopted her at birth. She was wanted and loved just as if she were their own blood. She would like to thank everyone who has encouraged her to do this. She would also encourage you to write your own story. Even if it is just for your memories and your family. We go through life so fast these days. We need to slow down and enjoy each other and the happenings in our lives. Not only MAKE the memories, but also KEEP the memories. Farm Livin’ Was the Life for Her!

Download or read book Stringbean written by Taylor Hagood and published by University of Illinois Press. This book was released on 2023-05-03 with total page 167 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The artist’s impact on country music and how his death changed the genre A beloved member of the country music community, David “Stringbean” Akeman found nationwide fame as a cast member of Hee Haw. The 1973 murder of Stringbean and his wife forever changed Nashville’s sense of itself. Millions of others mourned not only the slain couple but the passing of the way of life that country music had long represented. Taylor Hagood merges the story of Stringbean’s life with an account of murder and courtroom drama. Mentored by Uncle Dave Macon and Bill Monroe, Stringbean was a bridge to country’s early days. His instrumental savvy and old-time singing style drew upon a deep love for traditional country music that, along with his humor and humanity, won him the reverence of younger artists and made his violent death all the more shocking. Hagood delves into the unexpected questions and uneasy resolutions raised by the atmosphere of retribution surrounding the murder trial and recounts the redemption story that followed decades later.
Download or read book Call It Grace written by Serene Jones and published by Penguin. This book was released on 2020-03-17 with total page 338 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Theology is a place and a story. Theology is the place and story you think of when you ask yourself about the meaning of your life, of the world, and the possibility of God." So begins Serene Jones's epic work of raw truth, fierce love, and spiritual teaching as muscular as the fractured soul of this century demands. From her abiding Oklahoma roots to her historic leadership of a legendary New York seminary, her story illuminates the deep fault lines of this age--and points beyond them. With a voice that is at once frank and poetic, humble and prophetic, intimate and practical, Jones makes complex teachings around hatred, forgiveness, mercy, justice, death, sin, and grace understandable and immediately applicable for modern people. Excavating the wisdom of great theological voices--Soren Kierkegaard, Reinhold Niebuhr, John Calvin, James Baldwin, James Cone, Luce Irigaray, Saint Teresa of Avila--she brings them to life with an intimacy and vividness that illumines our lives and our culture now. At the same time, and with great beauty, Call It Grace reveals Serene Jones as a towering voice of a new, and urgently necessary, public theology for this century.

But then a fly-fishing buddy gave him a handwritten piece of advice that read, “Just go fishing and everything will be all right.” He followed that advice and found it to be the perfect salve. In this collection of stories, he celebrates his love affair with fishing and journaling—a journey that began in 1963 in Oklahoma after he caught a 13⁄4 pound largemouth bass on a red-and-white Martin Fly Plug using a Mitchell 304 spinning reel with a solid glass rod. That was the beginning of a journey that led to a life of contentment—one that carried him into his seventies and served as an antidote for the challenges he faced in earning a college degree, establishing a career, raising a family, and eventually retiring. Join the author as he shares how journaling has magnified the satisfaction that comes when one of God’s creatures gives you the ultimate compliment of taking your artificial fly or lure because he thought it was prey.

Download or read book The Material written by Camille Bordas and published by Random House. This book was released on 2024-06-11 with total page 289 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “A novel about an MFA program for stand-up comics better be damned funny, and The Material is definitely that. It’s also profound, deeply engrossing, dark, and generous, a great novel about humans making art right now.”—Sam Lipsyte, author of No One Left to Come Looking for You “Brilliance is on display here.”—Percival Everett, author of James and The Trees Can comedy be taught? Someone, at some point, seemed to think so. The Chicago Stand-Up MFA program has enrolled young comedians for nearly a decade. Its teachers and students all know how bits work—in theory, at least. They know that there’s a line between sharp and cruel, that sad becomes funny at the right angle, that the worst is the best, the truth is the worst, and any moment of your life that isn’t a punch line will either get you to a punch line or force you to be one. They’re all afraid to be one. Artie may be too handsome for standup, Olivia too reluctant to examine her own life, and Phil too afraid to cause harm. Kruger may be too vanilla to command his students’ respect, Ashbee too detached. And then we have Dorothy—the only woman on the program’s faculty—who though preparing to launch a comeback tour can’t tell if she’s too abiding, too ambitious, or too ambivalent. Whether a visiting professor—the high-profile, controversy-steeped comedian Manny Reinhardt—will do more to help or harm their cause remains to be seen. But he’s on his way. He’ll be arriving sooner than anyone thinks. Riffing keenly across a diverse array of precision-cut perspectives, The Material examines life through the eyes of a reluctantly assembled ensemble, a band of outsiders bound together by the need to laugh and the longing to make others laugh even harder.
