Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Vic Nippert brings us more of his ramblings through life, from experiences he’s had raising dogs to feeding crows, and from dealing with dust bunnies’ rejection to butterflies in flight and migration. And much more including Valentine covered underwear! More Musings and Poetry is a continuation of the book Musings written by Vic Nippert and published by Covenant Books. A collection of articles written for his church’s newsletter. More Musings and Poetry includes some of the poems he has written that were begun as a result of rough times in his later years, some of the things we will all face or have already done so no matter what our ages. Many of the articles were inspired by his own view of the energy and panoramic surroundings of his Hudson Valley home. An expanse with important historic legends and stories from Rip Van Winkle, The Revolutionary War, the first steamboat, mansions of millionaires along the Hudson River to contemporary changes in towns and cities undergoing organic trans-formations on the banks up the Hudson River. But the people and their viewpoints and behavior change slower than the building construction and store fronts around them and it’s the people that Vic observes that he writes about and the meaning of their lives. And his life too. The famous writer J.R.R. Tolkien wrote in The Fellowship of the Ring a much-used quote, “Not all who wander are lost.” And this is the goal of many of Vic’s writings and musings. Each one of us has an observation about our goals in life and how we may or may not succeed in reaching them. But we all are looking for our own meaning in life and it may take some time to attain what that goal is. Many times, the wandering can be quite amusing, teaching us that the voyage itself was the real goal all along. Enjoy!

In his own unique style, he treats us to his musings that range from the meaning of life to nothing. He gives us pictures of his childhood and the people he's known on his long life journey and his thoughts on life, death, and the oddities of language. Along with memories from his own life memorialized in verse, he offers his version of standard and unusual poetic styles such as the Haiku, Ubi sunt, and the Pantoum, and pays special homage to writers like Mark Twain and Dr. Seuss, and the patron saint of music, St. Cecelia.

Book excerpt: FOLKS FAMILIAR WITH THE TEXT OF THIS BOOK recommend thinking persons read this book. The author's thoughts are unique, engaging, and needed, especially in the insane world we are currently living in. Individuals, of all stripes, need to read and understand what the author is revealing to them. Someone, somewhere, is having doubts about the way they were brought up and programmed to believe in religion, God, and all other such "tales." This book is a breath of fresh air, with dozens of reasons why individuals are correctly justified in attempting to break out of that programmed spell, that internal nagging about sin, coupled with religion's fanciful infections it has infused them with. This book may help break the mental yoke they are needlessly burdened with and help them move forward to fulfill a greater, (your) self-destiny. The author's writing style is educational, informative, easy to read, and to understand. It expresses a positive, yet analytical viewpoint, that reasons out the criticisms posted against religious orthodoxies. The author does not attempt to bash anyone or any religion by analyzing the content and context of what they present as truth, or even the existence of the God sapients created centuries ago. The author simply points out how religion and related fictional persons known as "saints" came about, and how it was thought all else came to be, when it wasn't, or didn't. The author points out the horrible relationship early humans thought they had with their God, and always ended up blaming themselves as the reason they fell so frequently to His punishments. When many people did not want to worship as the programmed (gullibles) did, nor believe as they did, the programmed looked for an enforcement tool, and thought they found it, and called it "hell." As the author notes, EVERYTHING IN EXISTENCE DIES, and so will religion and the God notion. In addition to other musings, individuals are given new ways to think about reality, what it really is and is not. What it is not is fantasy. Individuals need not fear, nor go about as fear-based humans, because of their prior programming; just go about as seekers of truth, enjoying what that endeavor will bring, to each individual's mind.

Russell writes about love, loss and the signifi cance of war. What Russell tells us is not just a depiction of the outlook, but warnings to younger generation to take caution and to realize for themselves that these occurrences are happening in real time, basically detailing reality. Book excerpt: ‘Without poetry we are doomed to half lives.’ A society without poetry is a society without dreams. This book is a bouquet of fragrant flowers with varied hues for lovers of poetry to enjoy. It is an array of bewildering emotions through simple and lucid language resonating the common feelings of all at deeper levels. Each poem underlines a unique inner grain – an utterance with a message. Just like a spider spins a web, I write because I believe that words have magic and touch the heartstrings like none other. Most of the poems begin in delight and end in wisdom, unfolding fresh fragrance as petals. Emotional upsurges find place in few, provoked by some incidents in life. Ordinary and mundane emotions have been woven into poetry reflecting contemporary issues. General apathy of the ‘high and mighty’ towards the masses, the evil faces of the society and the role of destiny are the chosen themes. Some of the poems are rich in lyrical beauty and appealing to the aesthetic sense. Poetry has the power to cut through the crap accumulated in our busy lives and touches us in different ways. It helps us enjoy the joys of the childhood by recalling and experiencing the guileless time, evoking both tears and laughter. My aim is to awaken the slow dying hearts of people of this digital era, using my mental and spiritual adventures. I might have missed the precision or technique but my purpose is pure and truthful.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The interrelationship of the ideas of apocalypse and millennium is a dominant concern of British Romanticism. The Book of Revelation provides a model of history in which apocalypse is followed by millennium, but in their various ways the major Romantic poets - Blake, Wordsworth, Coleridge, Byron, Keats, and Shelley - question and even at times undermine the possibility of a successful secularization of this model. No matter how confidently the sequence of apocalypse and millennium seems to be affirmed in some of the major works of the period, the issue is always in doubt: the fear that millennium may not ensue emerges as a significant, if often repressed, theme in the great works of the period. Related to it is the tension in Romantic poetry between conflicting models of history itself: history as teleology, developing towards end time and millennium, and history as purposeless cycle. This subject-matter is traced through a selection of works by the major poets, partly through an exposition of their underlying intellectual traditions, and partly through a close examination of the poems themselves.

Book excerpt: Poetry is a special way to present a subject with intensity and the beauty of the language. It is a way of looking at things and a way of feeling the emotions of the moment through language. From the age of twelve, the lure of poetry crept into the author's love of literature and he became more aware of how words were crafted to achieve greater depth, beauty, vibrancy, and intensity. Mr. Fitton says that in writing poetry, his objective is to capture the heart and mind of the reader and produce new epiphanies for himself and others. He lives up to his objective in this lively, vibrant book that includes poems on love, joy, sadness, suffering, hope, stress, vanity, religion, pessimism, helplessness, fortitude, and a host of other topics, some in haiku, that capture the human spirit and its many faces. Musings is truly a banquet of delights, and there is pleasure in finding music in the words. It is clear the author has deftly used the richness of the language, aiming for both depth and simplicity to make the reading sheer pleasure. Read the poems and feel the impact. They come from the heart.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Set against the cultural and political backdrop of interwar Europe and the Americas, Poetry in Pieces is the first major study of the Peruvian poet Cesar Vallejo (1892-1938) to appear in English in more than thirty years. Vallejo lived and wrote in two distinct settings---Peru and Paris---which were continually crisscrossed by new developments in aesthetics, politics, and practices of everyday life. Michelle Clayton combines close readings of Vallejo's writings with cultural, historical, and theoretical analysis, connecting Vallejo---and Latin American poetry---to the broader panorama of international modernism and the avant-garde, and to writers and artists such as Rainer Maria Rilke, James Joyce, Georges Bataille, and Charlie Chaplin. Poetry in Pieces sheds new light on one of the key figures in twentieth-century Latin American literature, while exploring ways of rethinking the parameters of international lyric modernity.

Book excerpt: The subject of In the Frame is poetic ekphrasis: poems whose starting point or source of inspiration is a work of visual art. The authors of these sixteen essays, several of whom are poets as well as critics, have a twofold purpose: calling attention to the contribution women poets have made to this important genre of poetic writing and re-thinking ekphrastic poetry's motives and purposes. From Marianne Moore and Elizabeth Bishop to Mary Jo Salter, C. D. Wright, and Susan Wheeler, many of our best women poets have done important work in this genre, and when they describe, confront, or speak for an image that is itself wordless, their motives are not only formal but aesthetic. Their poems also raise important questions, from a perspective that is often, but not always, gender-inflected about how art is made and displayed, experienced and valued, celebrated and commodified. Jane Hedley is K. Laurence Stapleton Professor of English at Bryn Mawr College. Willard Spiegelman is the Hughes Professor of English at Southern Methodist University, and editor-in-chief of the Southwest Review. Nick Halpem is an associate professor in the English Department at North Carolina State University.
