Book Synopsis Monte Carlo Simulation of Ferroelectric Domain Structure and Applied Field Response in Two Dimensions by :
Download or read book Monte Carlo Simulation of Ferroelectric Domain Structure and Applied Field Response in Two Dimensions written by and published by . This book was released on 1999 with total page 24 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A 2-D, lattice-Monte Carlo approach was developed to simulate ferroelectric domain structure. The model currently utilizes a Hamiltonian for the total energy based only upon electrostatic terms involving dipole-dipole interactions, local polarization gradients and the influence of applied electric fields. The impact of boundary conditions on the domain configurations obtained was also examined. In general, the model exhibits domain structure characteristics consistent with those observed in a tetragonally distorted ferroelectric. The model was also extended to enable the simulation of ferroelectric hysteresis behavior. Simulated hysteresis loops were found to be very similar in appearance to those observed experimentally in actual materials. This qualitative agreement between the simulated hysteresis loop characteristics and real ferroelectric behavior was also confirmed in simulations run over a range of simulation temperatures and applied field frequencies.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A lattice-Monte Carlo approach was developed to simulate ferroelectric domain behavior. The model utilizes a Hamiltonian for the total energy that includes electrostatic terms (involving dipole-dipole interactions, local polarization gradients, and applied electric field), and elastic strain energy. The contributions of these energy components to the domain structure and to the overall applied field response of the system were examined. In general, the model exhibited domain structure characteristics consistent with those observed in a tetragonally distorted ferroelectric. Good qualitative agreement between the appearance of simulated electrical hysteresis loops and those characteristic of real ferroelectric materials was found.

The peer-reviewed literature is already extensive, witnessing rapid progress in experimental and theoretical studies on fundamental properties as well as various advanced applications. Part 1 covers theory, modelling, and synthesis (growth and alloying mechanisms) of MHNAs. Formation mechanisms of magneto-electric multiferroic materials, magnetic carbon nanotube (CNTs), and perovskite materials, which are a novel class of next-generation multifunctional nanomaterials, are discussed. The second part focuses on characterization techniques for electrical and dielectrical, rheological, biocompatibility, and other properties, as well as applications in the industrial, agricultural, environmental, and biomedical sectors. Finally, life cycle assessment is considered as essential to the development of nanomaterials and nanoproducts from MHNAs. Advanced undergraduate and graduate students, researchers, and other professionals in the fields of materials science and engineering, polymer science, surface science, bioengineering, and chemical engineering will find comprehensive and authoritative information for solving fundamental and applied problems in the characterization and use of these multifunctional nanomaterials.
Book Synopsis Monte Carlo simulations of the Ising model by : Michael Adler
Download or read book Monte Carlo simulations of the Ising model written by Michael Adler and published by Anchor Academic Publishing. This book was released on 2016-04-05 with total page 102 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this book, the thermodynamic observables of the classical one- and two-dimensional ferromagnetic and antiferromagnetic Ising models on a square lattice are simulated, especially at the phase transitions (if applicable) using the classical Monte Carlo algorithm of Metropolis. Finite size effects and the influence of an external magnetic field are described. The critical temperature of the 2d ferromagnetic Ising model is obtained using finite size scaling. Before presenting the Ising model, the basic concepts of statistical mechanics are recapped. Furthermore, the general principles of Monte Carlo methods are explained.
