Book excerpt: Written by a physician, Body Language – from Head to Toe is a “dictionary” of American idioms and other expressions that contain the name of a body part. The use of body part-related expressions is both interesting and fun. This book contains about 2,000 such idioms, words, and expressions, such as “with the back against the wall,” “brainstorming,” “sweet tooth,” and “tongue in cheek.” Says author Per-Olof Hasselgren, “As a surgeon, I understand the importance of anatomy and the knowledge of organs and tissues. This book reflects my longstanding interest in idioms and other expressions referring to body parts, and it ‘connects’ anatomy with the spoken and written language.” This book was written for three main reasons. First, anatomy matters, particularly in surgery. During the last several years, collecting such expressions became a hobby for the author. Second, as someone moving to this country from another part of the world, Dr. Hasselgren is interested in the peculiarities of the American language. Idioms, slang, and other expressions are specific for any given language and quite often cannot be directly translated. Third, when one starts to be aware of them, written and spoken body language can become quite entertaining.

But what is still missing is written and formalized literature - be it articles, blogs, magazines or books by industry professionals that detail every aspect, technique, process, etc. This book is a humble attempt to document several facets of the voicing world, especially, in the Indian context. Not all aspiring voice-over artists can afford personal coaching and mentoring, even if they have the passion and talent in them. When one enters the market without any formal training, it is as good as playing blindfolded darts. Often when someone explores the market but struggles to live up to the expectations, they give up and quit. This book hopes to demystify the art of voice acting and provide a platform for all budding voice-over artists to have a chance at becoming the next industry expert. A ready reckoner, this is a textbook for aspiring voice-over artists to understand the nuances of the voice, learn plenty of vocal exercises, voice culture, vocal tricks, and thus learn the knack of earning money with their voice.
Book Synopsis A Mouthful of Air by : Amy Koppelman
Download or read book A Mouthful of Air written by Amy Koppelman and published by Two Dollar Radio. This book was released on 2021-08-17 with total page 149 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Now a major motion picture starring Amanda Seyfried and Finn Wittrock. Compared to seminal feminist works such as Charlotte Perkins Gilman’s “The Yellow Wallpaper” and Sylvia Plath’s The Bell Jar, A Mouthful of Air is a powerful, tragic statement on motherhood, family, and survival. A Mouthful of Air is a compassionate and wrenching portrait of Julie Davis, a young wife and mother torn between the love she feels for her family and the voice in her head that insists they’d be better off without her. We meet Julie several weeks after her suicide attempt, on the eve of her son’s first birthday. Grateful to be alive, Julie tries her best to appreciate every moment—“this tree, that passing car, the pretzel guy up ahead on the corner. She has, for whatever reason, been given a second chance”—but her emotional demons are unrelenting, and she is slowly and quietly losing the battle. Within the narrative of A Mouthful of Air is an argument about the nature of depression—its causes, cures, and the price it exacts from its victims. With spare, elegant prose, this brutally honest portrayal of family and self illuminates the power and complexity of the human psyche. Originally published in 2003, A Mouthful of Air now includes an afterword by author Adrienne Miller.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Teaching children how to manage their thoughts and words without interrupting. Louis always interrupts! All of his thoughts are very important to him, and when he has something to say, his words rumble and grumble in his tummy, they wiggle and jiggle on his tongue and then they push on his teeth, right before he ERUPTS (or interrupts). His mouth is a volcano! But when others begin to interrupt Louis, he learns how to respectfully wait for his turn to talk. My Mouth Is A Volcano takes an empathetic approach to the habit of interrupting and teaches children a witty technique to help them manage their rambunctious thoughts and words. Told from Louis' perspective, this story provides parents, teachers, and counselors with an entertaining way to teach children the value of respecting others by listening and waiting for their turn to speak.

Book Synopsis Cook and the Carpenter by : June Davis Arnold
Download or read book Cook and the Carpenter written by June Davis Arnold and published by NYU Press. This book was released on 2012-01-01 with total page 218 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Women's liberation sought to transform every sector of U.S. society--its educational system, culture, language, politics, and, importantly, the delivery of social services. To enable this movement, women all over the country began to establish women's centers. In New York City, women from almost every local women's liberation group took over an abandoned building in lower Manhattan on New Year's Eve, 1970. They named the building The Fifth Street Women's Building and renovated it to feed, clothe, shelter, and educate women in need. The take-over was a huge success, attracting hundreds of activists and community members. Thirteen days later, the New York City Tactical Police stormed the building, expelled the women, and ended the action. The City then tore the building down and built a parking lot on the site. June Arnold was one of the original planners and an active participant in this episode. When she got out of jail, she went home and wrote this novel about what happened. The Cook and the Carpenter, which quickly gained fame for its use of a non- gendered language, remains one of the best representations of the time period that berthed modern feminism and paved the way for lesbian communities.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "When you take control of your words, you take back your life. If your words are in line with the Word of God, Satan can’t touch you." ~Phil Hutchings, Pastor If you're religious, you're going to hate this book. Religious people are steeped in tradition and ritual in a futile attempt to reach God through contrived devices. Any message about powerful living is an indictment against this empty ideology. This book is about the power of your words. It's not about "naming and claiming" or "positive affirmations", it's about using your words to confess what the Bible says about you, your life, the world around you, and the kingdom to come. Pastor and Teacher, Philip Hutchings, challenges readers first to understand what God's Word says, then to speak it with power and authority. It's not about sounding like a Hallmark card; it's about sounding like Jesus. When you continually speak the Word of God in the face of adversity, your circumstances will change. You have a mouthful of miracles! "A nation in crisis needs a church in revival. Many times Christians have thwarted God’s plans by their negative confession. In this book, Phil Hutchings gives you the key to a breakthrough in your life, your family, your church, and the nation. This is a must-read book for every believer." ~Bill Prankard "Words are important as they are the vehicles that bring God's power into our lives!" ~Ted Shuttlesworth "Death and life are in the power of the tongue, And those who love it and indulge it will eat its fruit and bear the consequences of their words." ~Proverbs 18:21 (AMP) About the Author Philip Hutchings' passion and love for God and God’s Word are connected to his desire to be used in bringing in the final harvest of souls on the earth today and see the worldwide church in revival. After graduating from Zion Bible College in Barrington, R.I. in 2004, Philip has encouraged and helped a vast number of men, women, and children of many nationalities. The unique delivery of the spoken Word through Philip has released the power of God to see transformation in many lives. Philip and his wife Jamie felt impressed of the Lord to birth a church in Saint John, New Brunswick, Canada called Higher Life Church, and he continues to pastor and minister with his team. After going to jail and being put into solitary confinement for 7 days for refusing to close the church during COVID, God has given him a national platform to preach the Gospel and see hope restored in the Church across Canada.

Book excerpt: From November 2012, for eleven months I was employed as the CEO by a new company called Euro Forex Investment Ltd (EFIL). It was the UK subsidiary of a private Asian business whose official name was Euro Fx. Being quite a mouthful to say, the name, "Euro Forex Investments Limited" was often shortened to "Euro Fx" by the Asian executives, both verbally and on literature. It was this seemingly innocuous, but deliberate, abbreviation that was to have dire consequences later. After leaving the company it was revealed that the whole set up had been a scam, fleecing billions of dollars from unsuspecting victims, and I had been set up as the "fall guy". Whilst visiting Shanghai in 2016, I was arrested; accused of being one of the orchestrators, and placed under arrest. Facing a possible death penalty or many years in jail, a mission of discovery to prove my innocence began.
