Book Synopsis The Value of Money by : B. M. Anderson
Download or read book The Value of Money written by B. M. Anderson and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2015-06-12 with total page 642 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Value of Money The following pages have as their central problem the value of money. But the value of money cannot be studied successfully as an isolated problem, and in order to reach conclusions upon this topic, it has been necessary to consider virtually the whole range of economic theory; the general theory of value; the rô1e of money in economic theory and the functions of money in economic life; the theory of the values of stocks and bonds, of "good will," established trade connections, trade-marks, and other "intangibles"; the theory of credit; the causes governing the volume of trade, and particularly the place of speculation in the volume of trade; the relation of "static" economic theory to "dynamic" economic theory. "Dynamic economics" is concerned with change and readjustment in economic life. A distinctive doctrine of the present book is that the great bulk of exchanging grows out of dynamic change, and that speculation, in particular, constitutes by far the major part of all trade. From this it follows that the main work of money and credit, as instruments of exchange, is done in the process of dynamic readjustment, and, consequently, that the theory of money and credit must be a dynamic theory. It follows, further, that a theory like the "quantity theory of money," which rests in the notions of "static equilibrium" and "normal adjustment," abstracting from the "transitional process of readjustment," touches the real problems of money and credit not at all. Download or read book Money and Credit written by Liang Wang and published by International Monetary Fund. This book was released on 2017-01-27 with total page 54 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We develop a theory of money and credit as competing payment instruments, then put it to work in applications. Buyers can use cash or credit, with the former (latter) subject to the inflation tax (transaction costs). Frictions that make the choice of payment method interesting also imply equilibrium price dispersion. We deliver closed-form solutions for money demand. We then show the model can simultaneously account for the price-change facts, cash-credit shares in micro payment data, and money-interest correlations in macro data. We analyze the effects of inflation on welfare, price dispersion and markups. We also describe nonstationary equilibria as self-fulfilling prophecies, which is standard, except here it entails dynamics in the price distribution.
Book Synopsis Accounting for Financial Instruments by : Emanuel Camilleri
Download or read book Accounting for Financial Instruments written by Emanuel Camilleri and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2017-05-12 with total page 433 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Accounting for Financial Instruments is about the accounting and regulatory framework associated with the acquisition and disposal of financial instruments; how to determine their value; how to manage the risk connected with them; and ultimately compile a business valuation report. Specifically, the book covers the following topics, amongst others: Accounting for Investments; Bills of exchange; Management of Financial Risks; Financial Analysis (including the Financial Analysis Report); Valuation of a business (including the Business Valuation Report) and Money laundering. Accounting for Financial Instruments fills a gap in the current literature for a comprehensive text that brings together relevant accounting concepts and valid regulatory framework, and related procedures regarding the management of financial instruments (investments), which are applicable in the modern business world. Understanding financial risk management allows the reader to comprehend the importance of analysing a business concern. This is achieved by presenting an analytical framework to illustrate that an entity’s performance is greatly influenced by its external and internal environments. The analysis of the external environment examines factors that impact an entity’s operational activities, strategic choices, and influence its opportunities and risks. The analysis of the internal environment applies accounting ratio analysis to an entity’s financial statements to examine various elements, including liquidity, profitability, asset utilisation, investment, working capital management and capital structure. The objective of the book is to provide a fundamental knowledge base for those who are interested in managing financial instruments (investments) or studying banking and finance or those who wish to make financial services, particularly banking and finance, their chosen career. Accounting for Financial Instruments is highly applicable to both professional accountants and auditors and students alike.
Book Synopsis E. W. Kemmerer's Contribution to the Quantity Theory of Money by : Rebeca Gomez Betancourt
Download or read book E. W. Kemmerer's Contribution to the Quantity Theory of Money written by Rebeca Gomez Betancourt and published by . This book was released on 2010 with total page 26 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This paper aims at suggesting a new interpretation of Edwin Walter Kemmerer's quantity theory of money as it appears in his Money and Credit Instruments in Their Relation to General Prices (1903, PhD thesis; and 1907, first edition of the book). In that work, he proposes an equation to determine the price level as the ratio of its monetary and real determinants. The paper addresses Kemmerer's key question of how money and credit are related to general prices. Two directions are investigated. Firstly, I explain Kemmerer's quantity theory by means of his exchange equation and how his interpretation may have influenced Fisher's economic theory. Secondly, I consider his test of the quantity theory on the US economy and I show the empirical validity of his theory. It is argued here that both elements give a key contribution to finding a new interpretation of the deepest meaning of Kemmerer's approach to quantity theory.
