Book Synopsis Intraocular and Intracranial Pressure Gradient in Glaucoma by : Ningli Wang
Download or read book Intraocular and Intracranial Pressure Gradient in Glaucoma written by Ningli Wang and published by Springer. This book was released on 2019-03-30 with total page 301 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book focuses on the characteristic of glaucomatous optic neuropathy and its relationship with cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) pressure. It also explores the potential novel methods to manage glaucoma by adjusting CSF pressure. This book covers several interesting topics such as why normal tension glaucoma (NTG) patients still develops into glaucoma without high intraocular pressure (IOP); and whether there are factors other than IOP contributing to the pathogenesis of NTG why the role of IOP in the pathogenesis of POAG becomes vague and controversial. This book contains over 40 chapters, including numerous images from clinical patients and experiments on gross anatomy, pathological tissue, and immunohistochemistry, electronic speculum etc. The ophthalmologists and researchers can also benefit from the clinical cases. We hope this book serves as a clinical guidance with practical significant for the understanding, prevention and diagnosis of glaucoma.

Book Synopsis Neuroglia Molecular Mechanisms in Psychiatric Disorders by : Caterina Scuderi
Download or read book Neuroglia Molecular Mechanisms in Psychiatric Disorders written by Caterina Scuderi and published by Frontiers Media SA. This book was released on 2019-01-21 with total page 154 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Neuropsychiatric disorders have long been considered as specific dysfunctions of neuronal functions. Studies of the recent decade, however, have challenged this simplistic view, highlighting the important role played by neuroglial cells in the onset and/or progression of neuropsychiatric diseases. In the central nervous system (CNS) non-excitable neuroglia are represented by cells of ectodermal origin (astrocytes, mainly responsible for CNS homeostasis and oligodendrocytes that provide myelination and support for axons) and mesodermal origin (microglial cells that are scions of foetal macrophages entering the neural tube early in development; these cells provide for CNS defence and contribute to shaping neuronal networks). Pathological changes of neuroglia are complex; these changes are classified into reactive gliosis (astrogliosis, activation of microglia and hypertrophy of oligodendroglial precursors), gliodegeneration with loss of function and glial pathological remodelling. Combination of these processes defines the evolution of neurological diseases in general and neuropsychiatric disorders in particular. In this research topic we addressed the contribution of neuroglia to major neuropsychiatric pathologies including major depression, schizophrenia, and addictive disorders.

Book Synopsis Molecular Mechanisms of the Aging Process and Rejuvenation by : Naofumi Shiomi
Download or read book Molecular Mechanisms of the Aging Process and Rejuvenation written by Naofumi Shiomi and published by BoD – Books on Demand. This book was released on 2016-08-31 with total page 128 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Numerous studies had been performed to elucidate the mechanisms of aging and to achieve rejuvenation, with some success reported in recent years. However, at present, the findings from those studies are not sufficient to resolve the issue of aging. This book presents an overview of recent topics on cellular aging and rejuvenation. In the early chapters, the molecular mechanisms of aging via the activities of clock and ion channel proteins, in addition to overall aspects, are discussed. In the latter part, the aging of the skin, immune system, and brain is discussed. This book will prove useful for those studying or developing new drugs to counter the aging process and will encourage the development of novel ideas for rejuvenation.
