Book excerpt: This book is the product of many years of reflection on the topic of what could cause a true Christian revival in so-called Post-Christian cultures. The author knows what it is like being a member of the so called "intellectual class" in the United States. He is the creator of one of the leading brainstorming software products, as well as the creator of artistic theory based on virtue which he started circulating in 1984. He is a Christian yet did not feel at home with much of the Christian popular media because it seemed the culture at large was becoming less and less Christian in the rest of the media. He spent the last several years creating this work based on ideas of what intelligent Christian revival would look like. He has written three books on religious excesses that mimic spirituality: one on hallucinations, another on religiosity over spirituality, and the third on grandiosity. In this work, he saw that the best defense in a post Christian culture was a good offense: the personal attitude of intelligent soul-winning towards those who are not spiritually-grounded that we come across in our daily lives.Revival has been meant to be seen as a time of spiritual fervor that takes place under a certain preacher in a certain church, or a Christian revival in the population in an area. This new work can be seen a personal guide to thriving in one's faith in a so-called post-Christian culture by taking the attitude of a soul winner. It takes the view of internally reversing the pressure from living in a post-Christian culture by praying for the "unprayable." Often as Christians we are just shocked at what we are seeing around us these days. We should spent as much effort in saying a short prayer, maybe repeated whenever we see that which shocks us. The book also focuses on planting seeds in what it calls an "atomic theology" trying to keep the culture Christian friendly from the ground up. It also says that the best defense is a good offense, and tries to create the mindset of of soul-winning as being the best defense in such a society. Since the author has written three books which cover difficulties upon the spiritual path, he thought it was only fair that he should write one that covered what genuine Christian "fervor" or spiritual devotion could look like. R.S. Pearson's new book on Christian revival takes a modern approach to this old subject, so vital the impact of Christianity on culture.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In these last days, the Christian Faith has fallen into apostasy as it is rightly written in 1 Timothy 4:1-2(NIV), The Spirit clearly says in the later times some will abandon the faith and follow deceiving spirits and things taught by demons. We all await a Christian revival but before true revival comes, there must first be a rebirth of learning. This book is a body of living words that make up flames of revival; it is the re -awakening of the Christian Faith. It will enlighten your understanding of God's mind and will. Therefore pay full attention to its contents (Proverbs 4:20, NIV) because understanding it will give you real understanding of the Christian Faith. If you understand this book then the Bible will become plain to you because it is its language. The Spirit of Revival is written to make all the mysteries of the Bible (including the mysteries of the Garden of Eden, the nature of Faith, the concept of sin, and the miracle of baptism) plain and simple to you. These words are not his, but those of Christ. They are spirits ( life) and seven times pure: When there is a need for revival, and the spirit of meditation falls on a man he does not just start preaching (or teaching), but the Spirit raises his understanding of the Truth, it may take years for him to be ready, that is why there is a period in the life of Christ that is not mentioned in the gospels but it is summarized as, ""And Jesus grew in wisdom and in stature, and in the favor of the Lord and man"" (Luke 2:52, NIV). And when such a man has become perfect in wisdom and judgments such that he walk not by sight nor reprove after his hearing because he can discern between spirits (wisdoms), he is presented to man for the glory of the Spirit that leads him. The words in this book are sure and greater than all insights. Pastor Ewang Nelson Mfortaw is a young Cameroonian who believes in the glory of revival because of what he has learnt from the Spirit of Christ who lives in us. He was born in August 1982, and presently lives in Douala (Cameroon).

Book excerpt: A Revival Sermon is a message of meditation based on the Bible and written by one of the most important Christian writers of all time. A devotional message of faith and hope for you. Charles Haddon (CH) Spurgeon,19 June 1834 - 31 January 1892) was a British Particular Baptist preacher. Spurgeon remains highly influential among Christians of various denominations, among whom he is known as the "Prince of Preachers". He was a strong figure in the Reformed Baptist , defending the Church in agreement with the 1689 London Baptist Confession of Faith understanding, and opposing the liberal and pragmatic theological tendencies in the Church of his day. It is estimated that in his lifetime, Spurgeon preached to around 10,000,000 people,Spurgeon was the pastor of the congregation of the New Park Street Chapel (later the Metropolitan Tabernacle) in London for 38 years. He was part of several controversies with the Baptist Union of Great Britain and later had to leave the denomination. In 1867, he started a charity organisation which is now called Spurgeon's and works globally. He also founded Spurgeon's College, which was named after him posthumously. Spurgeon was a prolific author of many types of works including sermons, an autobiography, commentaries, books on prayer, devotionals, magazines, poetry, hymns and more. Many sermons were transcribed as he spoke and were translated into many languages during his lifetime. Spurgeon produced powerful sermons of penetrating thought and precise exposition. His oratory skills held his listeners spellbound in the Metropolitan Tabernacle and many Christians have discovered Spurgeon's messages to be among the best in Christian literature.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In today's world, meditation is a word that is widely used among people who consider themselves somewhat spiritual or religious. Its application has been largely limited to practices that aim at emptying the mind of noise and distraction and focusing inward to bring calmness to one's life in the quest to achieve wholeness and balance. Its recent popularity can be attributed to the endorsement given by western celebrities who have explored eastern religions, particularly Buddhism, and touted the benefits of some of their practices for modern life, claiming impressive results. Given this background, much of the Christian world have viewed the word with suspicion and in some quarters steered clear of it altogether, thereby falling for the enemy's classic manoeuvre: make people let go of a powerful truth by calling a falsehood the same name. A candid comparison of the early church and the church today must leave us with sobering questions. Where is the powerful witness we see in the book of Acts? In my country Nigeria, with mega churches and at least 90 million Christians, where is the national transformation we should experience if our Christianity has the same potency as that of the first century 120, which transformed the world? Christians all over the world are asking these questions. We have clearly lost something along the way. Christians now have access to more books, CDs and MP3s, conferences, seminars, and Christian television networks, than at any other period in church history. Numerous Bible translations abound. Study aids that help us understand the original languages of the scriptures ranging from commentaries to lexicons and word studies are readily available to all. The internet is also an excellent resource. Christian organizations have made expensive study tools accessible at no charge to anyone with a computer and internet connection. Even secular online bookstores and auction houses have large catalogues of Christian material. These tools, though welcome, are clearly not the answer. The Western church is still enjoying religious freedom, and countries that historically opposed the gospel are opening their doors, so this is not a problem of access. The word of God remains the same. The Holy Spirit remains on earth. We are still in the same dispensation as that of the church in the book of Acts. What did they know and understand that we need to learn?God's counsel to Israel during Jeremiah's day still holds true for the church today.... "Stand in the ways and see, And ask for the old paths, where the good way is, And walk in it; Then you will find rest for your souls..." (Jeremiah 6:16). This study examines one of those ancient paths: the practice of true biblical meditation. Biblical meditation started with the patriarchs and persisted throughout the early church. It holds the key to unlocking the transforming power of God in every life and has the potential to ignite revival fire in every heart. We must claim meditation back with its true meaning and practice. We must reclaim the practices of the faith that were delivered to the saints and freely admit to their mystical nature. There is a higher life in God behind the door that this powerful key will unlock. This book provides tools that will enable you get up and experience it. I commend this book to the precious Body of Christ who have been purchased by the blood of the Lamb of God and called to a high purpose. May your heart's hunger for more of God be satisfied through the power of the Holy Spirit.

Book excerpt: After more than twenty years of revival ministry, America's greatest evangelist had accumulated knowledge of spiritual awakenings, their implications and excesses, perhaps exceeding that of almost anyone in Christian history. This aggregate wisdom on the subject was first presented to the reading public in the form of a series of 32 open letters, printed on the pages of the Oberlin Evangelist in 1845. Some were recently reproduced in a volume titled Revival Fire. But fifteen of the original letters did not find their way into that book. In your hands you have all thirty-two of the invaluable epistles of the incomparable preacher. - Back cover.

Charles Finney—who shook up nineteenth-century America with his preaching, earned the title Father of Modern Revivalism, and became the forerunner of revivalists like Dwight L. Moody and Billy Graham—knew a thing or two about revival. And he claimed it began not in the emotion of the masses but in the repentance of the individual. This new journal edition of a spiritual classic invites readers to record their reflections, thoughts, and prayers in response to Finney’s fiery words on how to experience revival. As you let his message soak in and interact with your life, you might find revival to be closer to home than you ever expected.

Book excerpt: During the seventeenth century, English Puritan pastors often encouraged their congregations in the spiritual discipline of meditating on God and His Word. Today, however, much of evangelicalism is either ignorant of or turned off to the idea of meditation. In God’s Battle Plan for the Mind , pastor David Saxton seeks to convince God’s people of the absolute necessity for personal meditation and motivate them to begin this work themselves. But he has not done this alone. Rather, he has labored through numerous Puritan works in order to bring together the best of their insights on meditation. Standing on the shoulders of these giants, Saxton teaches us how to meditate on divine truth and gives valuable guidance about how to rightly pattern our thinking throughout the day. With the rich experiential theology of the Puritans, this book lays out a course for enjoying true meditation on God’s Word. Table of Contents: 1. Book excerpt: Revivals of religion have been gradually becoming more and more superficial. All the phenomena which they exhibit testify to this as a general fact. There is very much less deep conviction of sin and deep depth of humility, and much less strength in all the graces exhibited by converts in late revivals, than in the converts from the revivals which occurred about 1830 and 1831 and for some time previous. I have observed, as have others also, that revivals are of much shorter duration, and that a reaction comes on much more suddenly and disastrously than formerly. Also, that fewer of the converts make stable and efficient Christians; that those who do persevere, appear to have less of the Spirit of Christ than in former revivals;?not so much of the spirit of prayer, and are not so modest and humble. In short, all the phenomena of the more recent revivals, judging from my own experience and observation and from the testimony of other witnesses, show that they have at least very extensively, taken on a much less desirable type than formerly. Christians are much less spiritual in revivals, much less prevalent in prayer, not so deeply humbled and quickened and thoroughly baptized with the Holy Ghost as they were formerly. These statements I do not suppose to be universally applicable to modern revivals, but I do believe them to be applicable generally. As revivals now exist, I believe ministers are not nearly as desirous of seeing them in their congregations as they formerly were, nor have they good reason to be. Those ministers who have witnessed none but the later revivals of which I speak, are almost afraid of revivals. They have seen the disastrous results of modern revivals so frequently, that they honestly entertain the doubt whether they are, upon the whole, desirable. Those, as I have good reason to know, who saw the revivals which occurred ten or twenty years ago, greatly prefer revivals of that type. They are distressed with the superficiality of many recent revivals. I make this as a general, not a universal remark, and state only my own opinion of public sentiment. I have often heard it said, both among ministers and private Christians, we long to see the days return when we shall have such revivals as we saw years ago. I have been anxiously watching the progress of things in this direction, and inquiring as carefully and prayerfully as I could into the causes which are operating to produce these results. If I am not misinformed, and have not greatly misapprehended the case, the following will be found among them:
