Book Synopsis Introduction to Mathematical Modeling of Crop Growth by : Christopher B. S. Teh
Download or read book Introduction to Mathematical Modeling of Crop Growth written by Christopher B. S. Teh and published by Dissertation.com. This book was released on 2006 with total page 278 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Learning mathematical modeling need not be difficult. Unlike other books, this book not only lists the equations one-by-one, but explains in detail how they are each derived, used, and finally assembled into a computer program for model simulations. This book shows how mathematics is applied in agriculture, in particular to modeling the growth and yield of a generic crop. Topics covered are agriculture meteorology, solar radiation interception and absorption, evapotranspiration, energy and soil water balance, soil water flow, photosynthesis, respiration, and crop growth development. Rather than covering many modeling approaches but in superficial detail, this book selects one or two widely-used modeling approaches and discusses about them in depth. Principles learned from this book equips readers when they encounter other modeling approaches or when they develop their own crop models.

Book Synopsis Wheat Growth and Modelling by : W. Day
Download or read book Wheat Growth and Modelling written by W. Day and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-10-07 with total page 402 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The concept of using mathematical models to investigate crop growth and productivity has attracted much attention in recent years. A major reason is that modelling can allow an expert in one area to assess the impact of his ideas in the light of other advances in our understanding of crop performance. Whether or not many of the claims made for or the demands made of models can ever be satisfied, this role as a focus for quantitative definition of crop growth is an important one. One consequence is that the development and appraisal of such models requires the efforts of scientists from a wide range of disciplines. This NATO Advanced Research workshop was designed to bring together such a range of scientists to consider the wheat crop, and assess our understanding of the crop and our ability to model its growth and yield. The ideas and organization behind the workshop involved many people. The U. K. interest in a computer model of wheat growth was instigated by Dr. Joe Landsberg (then of Long Ashton Research Station, but now Director of CSIRO Division of Forest Research), who in 1979 started a modelling exercise as part of a collaborative study of the causes of yield variation in winter wheat, involving four research institutes supported by the Agricultural and Food Research Council. Dr.

Agricultural system models enhance and extend field research...to synthesize and examine experiment data and advance our knowledge faster, to extend current research in time to predict best management systems, and to prepare for climate-change effects on agriculture. The relevance of such models depends on their implementation. Methods of Introducing System Models into Agricultural Research is the ultimate handbook for field scientists and other model users in the proper methods of model use. Readers will learn parameter estimation, calibration, validation, and extension of experimental results to other weather conditions, soils, and climates. The proper methods are the key to realizing the great potential benefits of modeling an agricultural system. Experts cover the major models, with the synthesis of knowledge that is the hallmark of the Advances in Agricultural Systems Modeling series.

Book Synopsis Sampling Techniques for Measuring and Forecasting Crop Yields by : Harold F. Huddleston
Download or read book Sampling Techniques for Measuring and Forecasting Crop Yields written by Harold F. Huddleston and published by . This book was released on 1978 with total page 208 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Extract: This manual assembles information on mathematical modeling concerning crop yields for domestic and foreign users of crop statistics. In providing technical assistance to countries in the collection of agricultural data, measuring crop yields is important for decisions affecting imports and exports, as well as recommending ways of improving crop techniques. Major emphasis is placed on forecasting of current-year yield per acre prior to harvest. This publication could serve as a basis for training courses as well as a reference manual for countries developing or modifying agricultural data systems. It is important to emphasize, however, that this manual is not expected to serve as a training module without an instructor or consultant experienced in crop sampling and yield modeling.
Book Synopsis Mathematical Modeling and Simulation by : Kai Velten
Download or read book Mathematical Modeling and Simulation written by Kai Velten and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2009-06-01 with total page 362 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This concise and clear introduction to the topic requires only basic knowledge of calculus and linear algebra - all other concepts and ideas are developed in the course of the book. Lucidly written so as to appeal to undergraduates and practitioners alike, it enables readers to set up simple mathematical models on their own and to interpret their results and those of others critically. To achieve this, many examples have been chosen from various fields, such as biology, ecology, economics, medicine, agricultural, chemical, electrical, mechanical and process engineering, which are subsequently discussed in detail. Based on the author`s modeling and simulation experience in science and engineering and as a consultant, the book answers such basic questions as: What is a mathematical model? What types of models do exist? Which model is appropriate for a particular problem? What are simulation, parameter estimation, and validation? The book relies exclusively upon open-source software which is available to everybody free of charge. The entire book software - including 3D CFD and structural mechanics simulation software - can be used based on a free CAELinux-Live-DVD that is available in the Internet (works on most machines and operating systems).
