Book excerpt: During the 10 years since the last edition of this volume our knowledge on malignant lymphomas, especially on extranodal lymphomas, has increased. This volume is an expanded and completely revised edition, now based on the WHO classification. The parallels to the updated Kiel classification and the REAL classification are indicated. The information is organized in organ-specific chapters, comprising the well-known nodal lymphoma entities as well as all known extranodal lymphomas and the different organ-specific clinico-pathological entities: lymphomas of the spleen, the gastrointestinal tract, the skin, etc. In addition to the morphology, the major immunohistochemical, molecular genetic, and clinical data are included in each chapter.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This well-illustrated monograph presents a comprehensive description of Fine-Needle Cytology (FNC), including technical procedures and ancillary techniques, applied to the lymph node (LN). Possibilities and limitations are highlighted to produce accurate cytological diagnosis of LN and cytological criteria, and to be exploited for extra-nodal lymphoproliferative processes. The normal LN structure and corresponding cytological patterns are described. Cytological, phenotypical, and molecular features are reviewed along with diagnostic criteria for various medical conditions such as lymphadenitis and lymphadenopathies, Hodgkin and Non-Hodgkin lymphoma, pediatric lymphoadenopaties, immunodeficiency-associated lymphoproliferative disorders, extra-nodal lymphoproliferative processes, metastases, and other non-lymphomatous processes. LN-FNC requires knowledge of hemathopathology and imaging techniques, as well as dexterity with FNC performing, smearing, and material management. Rapid on-site evaluation (ROSE), the choice of ancillary techniques and molecular procedures case by case are required to produce accurate and comprehensive diagnosis. This book will help cytopathologists to conduct these tasks in various organs and clinical contexts. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 248 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume is intended to present an eclectic selection of informative reviews on aspects of the malignant lymphomas, including Hodgkin's disease. The choice of suitable review topics in this field is made hazardous by several facts. First, the growth of insight into basic mechanisms of lymphomagenesis is explosive, as is the expansion of our understanding of the need for precise morphologic classification of these diseases. Second, new therapeutic agents, cytotoxic and biologic, as well as new drug delivery strategies, are appearing with remarkable frequency. Finally, old "standard" approaches, such as the staging laparotomy for Hodgkin's disease, are being reconsidered and deserve attention in an up-to-date collection of papers. The 10 reviews presented here fall generally into three categories. First, the optimal diagnostic and therapeutic approaches to Hodgkin's disease are considered by Mark Leibenhaut, who reviews the status of the diagnostic staging laparotomy, and by Philip Bierman, who discusses his thoughts on the timing of high-dose treatment with bone marrow transplantation for this disease. There follow four reviews of current management of specific histologic subtypes of malignant lymphoma. First, Velasquez reviews prognostic factors in both intermediate and high grade lymphomas. Miller and Dahlberg review and update the Southwest Oncology Group experience in developing curative cytotoxic combination therapies for diffuse large-cell lymphomas. Lastly, optimal therapy for two kinds of high grade lymphoma are presented. Butler and Hainsworth describe the Vanderbilt experience with diffuse small noncleaved cell lymphoma and Picozzi reviews lymphoblastic lymphoma.

Book excerpt: Lymphoma is a group of malignant diseases caused by the clonal proliferation of lymphocytes. Current treatment options include chemotherapy, radiotherapy, and bone marrow/stem cell transplantation. Development of new treatment options for cancer medications include small molecules and monoclonal antibodies for immunotherapy. In addition, the discovery of new phytochemical agents used in complementary and alternative medicine adds perspective to the treatment of lymphoma. This book highlights recent developments in the treatment of lymphoma. Chapters discuss different types of lymphomas, such as follicular lymphoma, gastrointestinal lymphoma, splenic B-cell lymphoma, and others, as well as the available treatment options for each.

Book excerpt: A full and discursive account of lymphomas in tissues other than the lymph nodes. This book brings together into one volume information on extranodal lymphomas in all body systems and organs. It should help the reader with diagnosis and assessment, and the text includes details of clinical presentation and, where possible, prognosis. With hundreds of colour illustrations, this should serve as a vital bench book for the histopathologist, and should also provide the haematopathologist with a handy reference and literature review. Written by the experts, this is the first comprehensive account of the field.
