Book Synopsis Teachers’ Personal Epistemologies by : Gregory Schraw
Download or read book Teachers’ Personal Epistemologies written by Gregory Schraw and published by IAP. This book was released on 2017-07-01 with total page 447 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The focus of this book is to explore teachers’ evolving personal epistemologies, or the beliefs we hold about the origin and development of knowledge in the context of teaching. The chapters focus on a range of conceptual frameworks about how university and field?based experiences influence the connections between teachers’ personal epistemologies and teaching practice. In an earlier volume we investigated preservice and inservice teachers’ beliefs and teaching practices (Brownlee, Schraw and Berthelsen, 2011). While we addressed the nature of teachers’ personal epistemologies, learning and teaching practices, and approaches for changing beliefs throughout teacher education programs, the volume did not address conceptual frameworks for the development of teacher’s personal epistemologies. To address this gap, the book is focused on teacher educators, teachers and teacher education programmers in universities with an overall aim of highlighting how we might support preservice teachers’ involvement in learning that is challenging and inservice teachers’ engagement in professional experiences that promote changes in teaching practice. We argue that teachers need to be encouraged to question their beliefs and develop increasingly sophisticated beliefs about their knowledge and their students’ knowledge that facilitate learning and intellectual growth.

Book Synopsis Health Education and Prevention by : Frank Pizon
Download or read book Health Education and Prevention written by Frank Pizon and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2019-04-09 with total page 200 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Social representations, beliefs, values and knowledge are just some of the aspects that affect how the beneficiaries of preventative health measures perceive their wellbeing. Health Education and Prevention questions and analyzes these concepts in order to consider new ways of theorizing patients’ conceptions of their health. From a methodological point of view, these analyses are put into practice with the design of prevention tools and devices. The use of a corpora of photographs is particularly meaningful in this respect. This book offers an authoritative perspective by noting important points of vigilance in training, and especially by distinguishing instructive contents conducive to the development of an explicit health pedagogy for more effective prevention measures. A model for categorizing situations integrating both educational and healthcare paths is also proposed.
Book Synopsis L’université peut-elle vraiment former les enseignants ? by : Richard Etienne
Download or read book L’université peut-elle vraiment former les enseignants ? written by Richard Etienne and published by De Boeck Supérieur. This book was released on 2009-09-29 with total page 272 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

The Northern Ontario School of Medicine, a pioneering faculty of medicine founded in 2005, was established to realise the potential of the rich learning environments found in such communities. This is the story of the establishment of a school of medicine that is part of a growing trend toward providing medical education that responds to the needs of remote populations and produces resourceful physicians capable of meeting those needs. Twelve contributors highlight the various aspects of the school's development and the unique opportunities it offers. The first new medical school in Canada in over thirty years, the Northern Ontario School of Medicine provides a blueprint for those interested in an innovative approach to medical education. This collection provides a fascinating and detailed account of the challenges and rewards faced by those who insisted on creating a patient-centred, community-based, and culturally sensitive learning environment for the physicians of tomorrow.
