Book excerpt: The Model Compositions for Primary Level 1-6 series is especially written with young learners in mind and is aimed at exposing them to composition writing in a very user-friendly and enjoyable manner on topics related to their everyday experiences as well as close to their hearts. The model compositions are carefully selected based on the understanding of how a young mind learns, thinks and feels. The topic for each model composition is drawn from the experiences, thoughts, ideas and feelings of young learners. The themes are presented in different writing styles. This series provides ample and consistent practice for young learners for every level of primary school. The variety of themes also enables the learners to be exposed to different topics and areas to write well. The first three levels are already published and the next three levels will be completed soon. A learner who starts to practice from Level 1 to Level 6 will have covered 1000 model compositions which will no doubt provide a very solid foundation for excellent writing once the learner moves up to junior high school. The vocabulary bank of the learner will also increase tremendously across a wide variety of topics and themes. Also, embedded in this gem is a good selection of children’s poems and haiku! Idioms, similes, collective nouns and animal sound enhance and enrich the writing mastery as well as the sophistication of expressions of the young learners as they not only grasp models of sentence structures but also learn to transform their ideas using meaningful vocabulary and common expressions. Each composition imparts the underlying values and positive attitudes for character building, living a meaningful life and contributing positively to the community, hence making a positive difference wherever the learners may be.

Download or read book Negative Space written by Lilly Dancyger and published by Santa Fe Writers Project. This book was released on 2021-05-01 with total page 281 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Despite her parents' struggles with addiction, Lilly Dancyger always thought of her childhood as a happy one. But what happens when a journalist interrogates her own rosy memories to reveal the instability around the edges? Dancyger's father, Joe Schactman, was part of the iconic 1980s East Village art scene. He created provocative sculptures out of found materials like animal bones, human hair, and broken glass, and brought his young daughter into his gritty, iconoclastic world. She idolized him—despite the escalating heroin addiction that sometimes overshadowed his creative passion. When Schactman died suddenly, just as Dancyger was entering adolescence, she went into her own self-destructive spiral, raging against a world that had taken her father away. As an adult, Dancyger began to question the mythology she'd created about her father—the brilliant artist, struck down in his prime. Using his sculptures, paintings, and prints as a guide, Dancyger sought out the characters from his world who could help her decode the language of her father's work to find the truth of who he really was.

Book Synopsis Reflexive Practice by : Angela Mary Lisle
Download or read book Reflexive Practice written by Angela Mary Lisle and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2010-07-06 with total page 308 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: At the heart of this book is the notion of reflexive practice as a meta-cognitive self-reflexive learning style for personal and professional development. Reflexive practice is covered in a multidimensional way. It is examined as part of the personal development of a student, as personal development of the educator and as a thinking style of the individual in the agency-structure dialectic of the global post-modern human condition, and the place of early childhood education, if not education per sae within that international contextual framework. In addition, reflexive practice is examined as a phenomenon in itself, as a behaviour emergent of biology; Piagetian genetic epistemology within the psychophysical-social context of the Marxian-Vygotskian historical materialist dialectic. It takes an interactionist stance, that is, the view that ontogenetic development is an outcome of nature and nurture. Thus its discourse is mainly psychological with input from other disciplines where there is overlap of concepts or concerns with theoretical insights. Its historical roots start from the enlightenment philosophy through to postmodern philosophy culminating into psychophysics. The philosophy of methodology for example of reflexive practice is examined from the critical theory of Marx and the use of dialectics manifest within post-modernity as the reflexive turn. Both Schns notion of reflexive practice as a critical conversation with the situation used in education and by psychologists within social work and counselling are examined. The neuropsychology of reflexive practice is also examined, and theorised as the psychophysics of brain-mind. The psychophysics of brain-mind is in addition examined in the way it connects to learning style discourses such as the visual, auditory and kinaesthetic modalities the brain exuberates. These learning styles coalesce within the active learning approach, the Marxian-Vygotskian method of learning. A secondary thread that runs through the chapters is the notion of dialectic. The individual identity is woven with the richness senses bring; and values that emotions weave, with the evolving world, as the agency-structure dialectic of development continues its journey. Thus, reflexive practice as a cycle of learning that converts into development and that is the basis for the development of identity: the ontogenetic development of the individual is examined on several plains. For example, what is the childs site of negotiation within the everyday postmodern world; or the students site of negotiation within this rich construal of discourses and how are the professional and personal juxtaposed; compromised and/or resolved? Reflexive practice as a critique of practice and search for truths within ones social context is catalyst for agency and truth of ones real place within the human condition to bring about emancipation. Identity formation as a social psychological phenomenon is political as well as cultural, and geographically located. In terms of polity, does parliament stand as guardian to practices within education and social welfare, or, is it but one influence inside the elaborate arena of negotiation? In the present economic climate as western societies embrace their margins; the bounded nations and othernesss; twinned sites of local, and local with global changes, of emergencies, bubble up in a glowing spectra; the UK is but one physicality of many as all that is solid melts into air (Marx, Economic, 1890). The final encounter may well be one of total eclipse or a unified glorification as global capitalism struggles for its feet, hovering beneath its own carriage on a blanket of air without the support of the industrial base. Money - paper alone - will not support the march of capitalist accumulation. As inflation rises and gross national product falls, mindful of the fact that debit accounts are debt in the guise of growth without anything but words on paper to support them

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The second book in the “superbly entertaining” (Booklist) Regency historical series from New York Times bestselling author Julia London. Tobin Scott, otherwise known as Count Eberlin of Denmark, has returned to Hadley Green, the site of his father’s hanging for thievery fifteen years ago. He has but one goal in mind, and that is to avenge his father, who he believes was innocent of stealing the Countess of Ashwood jewels. Now a wealthy man, Tobin intends to exact his revenge by destroying the Ashwood estate and the Countess of Ashwood, who as a young girl testified against his father. Lily Boudine has become the Countess of Ashwood through a very surprising twist of fate. She is even more surprised when a vaguely familiar looking man calls and tells her he is Tobin Scott, whom she knew as a boy, and that he intends to destroy her or Ashwood. He leaves the choice to her. Because so many people depend on Ashwood, Lily chooses herself, thinking that she can hold him at bay long enough to remove Ashwood from his clutches. But as they play the game of seduction, and she slowly discovers that he is not the cold, heartless man he would like to present to her, she also believes that Tobin is right—his father did not steal the jewels. And if she can find them, she can help restore his family’s honor—but not before she discovers another shocking secret.
