Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How is it possible for God to be God, in a world where human beings find it quite natural to live and think as if they themselves stood at the center of things? Philip Watson, outstanding English Methodist, whose scholarly and objective research on Luther is contributing greatly to contemporary Protestant evaluation of the Reformer, finds his answer to the question in ÒLuther's Copernican Revolution.Ó Copernicus challenged the old theory that the sun moves around the Earth. He said that the sun is the center of things and the earth moves around it. Similarly, Luther challenged the teaching, in effect, that mortals are at the center of things, and that everything moves around them. Not so. God is the center. Without Him, humanity is nothing. Human salvation lies not in things mortals do, but in what God does - through Christ. His point determines Watson's theme, ÒLet God Be GodÓ - that is, let humanity recognize God's will and way. Significantly, this study of Luther by a non-Lutheran indicates the influence of Scandinavian sources in the study and research of Watson. In his Preface, the author acknowledges assistance from such Swedish scholars as AulŽn, Nygren, Bring, and others. The first part of Let God Be God evaluates Luther as a theologian and points out the motif of his thought. The book proceeds to concentrate on three major themes in Luther: The Revelation of God, The Theology of the Cross, and The Doctrine of the Word. Philip Watson writes forcefully - with the zeal of one who has made a discovery that he feels must be shared with others. His simple literary expression makes clear some profound theological distinctions that are often difficult for the average reader to comprehend. Notes on each chapter contain numerous quotations from Luther. Those already acquainted with Luther will find this interpretation of his lectures, writings, and sermons particularly stimulating. Let God Be God is significant reading for the student and lay person who wants to know better the theology of the Reformer.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Everyone thinks you’ve got it together. But inside, you’re asking, “Am I enough?” No matter how good we look to others, the nagging voice of self-doubt is hard to shake. We ask questions like: If people really knew me would they still accept me? Will I be rejected when I can’t perform? Can I pull this off? What if I end up alone? Am I missing out on what life should be because I can’t shake this fear? If you find yourself having thoughts like these, Erica Wiggenhorn wants to lead you to freedom. Drawing from the story of Moses—the greatest self-doubter in the Bible—Erica shows how self-doubt is tied closely to self-reliance. It’s only when you cast yourself on God that you find the true source of strength. Are you enough? The answer is no . . . but your God certainly is. Step out in His power instead of your own and watch your confidence blossom because you’re in the hands of I AM.

Bud Paxon meets Jesus in a Las Vegas hotel suite. A Jewish girl named Esther convinces a king to save her people. From the chapters of the Bible and the pages of today's newspaper, Let God Surprise You introduces you to men and women whose extraordinary stories demonstrate how God can turn any situation around and bring good out of even the most difficult circumstances. This book also shows how God answers our prayers---sometimes through unexpected avenues. Heather Whitestone McCallum offers her experiences of amazing grace and divine timing along with stories of biblical and modern men and women that demonstrate how our loving and lavish God is ready to surprise us with his goodness and mercy. Come with me now as we look at stories of people who chose to believe---and were surprised by this outrageous, outlandish, and loving God we serve. Heather Whitestone McCallum dreamed of dancing as a prima ballerina. But how could a deaf girl from Alabama reach such an 'impossible' goal? By dancing before millions at the Miss America pageant and capturing the coveted crown. What an unbelievable way for God to make a dream come true! This is only one of the inspiring stories you'll find in Let God Surprise You. Heather not only shares stories of the ways God has surprised her, but also brings to life other accounts of men and women who have discovered the surprising and often amazing ways God's grace works in human lives. Book excerpt: Being still is an art. If we can learn to master this skill we can better appreciate the free gift of life that has been given to all of us. Robert Paul Baeyens wrote this book to help the reader learn to make better decisions, have greater confidence and achieve happiness while at the same time taking that rare look inward, being honest with oneself and facing topics that are uncomfortable and then committing to taking a stance. We all want to find answers to questions such as: * Are we in control? * Is there a God with an ultimate plan for us? * Is there a choice to be made that affects us for eternity? * Are there multiple paths to an eternal existence? From the beginning man has been perplexed by the question as to whether or not God really exists. Many civilizations were built or destroyed over their beliefs in a higher power or lack thereof. And still nobody can prove or disprove whether He does or not. If this one simple question could be answered and proven either way, then mankind would certainly be significantly changed. Does one have to believe in God in order to be happy? Is there meaning to life without God at the center of all things? And, most importantly, should we be acting differently during our walk through life based on how we answer these questions? Once we establish our belief then how do we live life to the fullest based on that belief? How can we maximize our happiness and at the same time walk morally, ethically and for the improvement of society and mankind? Whether or not one believes in God, it is undeniable that we should make that our common goal. The intent of "Be Still" is to answer these and other questions in order to live life to the fullest and to be our best possible person for our own sake as well as the sake of others. It is more than a mystery in need of a solution; it is and should be every man and woman's responsibility. To make no choice is to make a choice for complacency, as so many do. That is irresponsible to oneself and to society. The challenge is for every man and woman to stand up and make a choice and then to live life to its fullest based on that choice. One thing is for certain --either there is a God--or there isn't. Fair enough? Let's start with that. This book is for Christians that are seeking self improvement and who want to learn how to connect with God at a deeper level. It offers Non-Christians the opportunity to learn about the Christian faith and find peace through biblical based teachings. "Be Still" will allow the reader to connect with God on a deeper level as it reveals man's nature, God's nature and your free will to make choices. Most of all, "Be Still" will teach you that the only way to true happiness is to allow God to be God in your life.

Book excerpt: Evangelist Greg Laurie calls all Christians back to radical New Testament living in his latest offering, Let God Change Your Life. Imagine what it would have been like to be a follower of Jesus; first-century Christians walked away from their old lives just to be where He was. What they learned, sitting at His feet, was discipleship. And when His work on earth was done, first-century Christians took His words and example and spread out, teaching the gospel to everyone. The good news is that we, too, can participate in this lifestyle. Laurie drills it down in three simple ideas: get to know Jesus, follow His plan for discipleship, and use it to tell others what we know. Laurie’s tone is clear, direct, and biblical.

Book excerpt: God Has a Name is a simple yet profound guide to understanding God in a new light--focusing on what God says about himself. This one shift has the potential to radically alter how you relate to God, not as a doctrine, but as a relational being who responds to you in an elastic, back-and-forth way. In God Has a Name, John Mark Comer takes you line by line through Exodus 34:6-8--Yahweh's self-revelation on Mount Sinai, one of the most quoted passages in the Bible. Along the way, Comer addresses some of the most profound questions he came across as he studied these noted lines in Exodus, including: Why do we feel this gap between us and God? Could it be that a lot of what we think about God is wrong? Not all wrong, but wrong enough to mess up how we relate to him? What if our "God" is really a projection of our own identity, ideas, and desires? What if the real God is different, but far better than we could ever imagine? No matter where you are in your spiritual journey, the act of learning who God is just might surprise you--and change everything.

Book excerpt: More and more we are told to pursue the life we want, but what about the life God wants you to live? When our desires and God's will don't match up, we often choose to move God from the center of our life to just being an "important part" of it. This book will challenge you to think differently about what it means to have faith. It asks you to set yourself aside, make God your true focus, and trust God to truly be God in your life. The proceeds from this book are being donated to support the Healing and Reconciliation work being done with First Nations People through The Kenora Fellowship Centre (Anamiewigummig) and Winnipeg Inner City Missions (Anishanabe).
