It raises issues about student psychological development, mental health, and the prevalence of alcohol and substance abuse on campus in order to better inform discussion about allowing guns on campus in multiple capacities and concludes by sharing strategies for averting gun-related tragedies and offering models for responding when they occur."--Book cover.
Book Synopsis Decision Making by the Modern Supreme Court by : Richard L. Pacelle, Jr
Download or read book Decision Making by the Modern Supreme Court written by Richard L. Pacelle, Jr and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2011-06-13 with total page 279 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There are three general models of Supreme Court decision making: the legal model, the attitudinal model and the strategic model. But each is somewhat incomplete. This book advances an integrated model of Supreme Court decision making that incorporates variables from each of the three models. In examining the modern Supreme Court, since Brown v. Board of Education, the book argues that decisions are a function of the sincere preferences of the justices, the nature of precedent, and the development of the particular issue, as well as separation of powers and the potential constraints posed by the president and Congress. To test this model, the authors examine all full, signed civil liberties and economic cases decisions in the 1953–2000 period. Decision Making by the Modern Supreme Court argues, and the results confirm, that judicial decision making is more nuanced than the attitudinal or legal models have argued in the past.
Book Synopsis A Journey Into the Philosophy of Alain Locke by : Johnny Washington
Download or read book A Journey Into the Philosophy of Alain Locke written by Johnny Washington and published by Praeger. This book was released on 1994-01-26 with total page 244 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Washington provides a detailed guide to the philosophy of Alain Locke, one of the most influential African American thinkers of our time. The work gives special attention to what Washington calls Destiny Studies, an approach which allows a people to concentrate on their past, present, and future possibilities, and to view the experience of a race as a coherent unity, rather than a set of fragmented historical happenings. In providing a broad vision of Locke's ideas, Washington considers the views of Booker T. Washington and his contemporaries, the theories of anthropologists concerning race and ethnicity, and many of the social issues current in our own age. By doing so, Washington affirms the importance of Locke as a philosopher and demonstrates the impact of Locke on the destiny of African Americans.

Book Synopsis Precipitation Partitioning by Vegetation by : John T. Van Stan, II
Download or read book Precipitation Partitioning by Vegetation written by John T. Van Stan, II and published by Springer. This book was released on 2020-01-02 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents research on precipitation partitioning processes in vegetated ecosystems, putting them into a global context. It describes the processes by which meteoric water comes into contact with the vegetation's canopy, typically the first surface contact of precipitation on land. It also discusses how precipitation partitioning by vegetation impacts the amount, patterning, and chemistry of water reaching the surface, as well as the amount and timing of evaporative return to the atmosphere. Although this process has been extensively studied, this is the first review of the global literature on the partitioning of precipitation by forests, shrubs, crops, grasslands and other less-studies plant types. The authors offer global contextualization combined with a detailed discussion of the impacts for the climate and terrestrial ecohydrological systems. As such, this comprehensive overview is a valuable reference tool for a wide range of specialists and students in the fields of geoscience and the environment.
