This book was released on 2022-07-26 with total page 185 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Aning Amoah's Leadership Styles and Spiritual Traits of Catholic Priests explore the relationship between leadership styles (transformational, transactional, and laissez-faire) and spiritual traits (self-directedness (SD), cooperativeness (CO), and self-transcendence (ST). The quantitative correlational study sampled 93 catholic priests from Ghana in active ministry. The results showed a statistically significant correlation between transformational leadership and spiritual traits, a nonstatistical correlation between transactional leadership and spiritual trait variables, a negative statistically significant correlation between laissez-faire leadership style with self-directedness and cooperativeness, and a positive statistically significant correlation between laissez-faire leadership style and self-transcendence. Thus, the more catholic priests provide guidance, counseling, teaching, and shepherding among congregation as a transformational leader, the more likely they will be reliable, mature, effective, helpful, compassionate, and spiritual. Contrary, the more catholic priests become laissez-faire leader, the more likely they will be weak, blaming, ineffective, emotionally unstable, lacking internal organizational principles (low SD), self-absorbed, intolerant, critical, revengeful and self-regarding (low CO), and absorbed in what they do, spiritual and capable of adapting to situation of pain and suffering (high ST).

Book excerpt: Catholic priests in the U.S. and around the world are usually silent in discussing their superiors’ leadership relating to the child sexual abuse scandal. This nonfiction book, Priests’ Perceptions of the Leadership Styles of U.S. Catholic Bishops is a representation of rare but unique perspectives of the U.S. Catholic priests’ opinions of the bishops’ leadership styles in handling the child sexual abuse scandal. No other author has ever asked the question of the U.S. Catholic bishops’ leadership styles relating to the child sexual abuse scandal. The child sexual abuse scandal’s quagmire in the Catholic Church constitutes the question of leadership that the author examined in this book from the perspectives of transformational, transactional, charismatic, and servant-leadership styles. The author, Fr. Dr. Aloysius Ndeanaefo, traveled to the various areas within a Midwestern diocese interviewing priests as a way of gaining a deeper understanding of their opinions. Catholic leadership around the world needs to use the findings in this book to facilitate more effective leadership styles when handling and preventing similar future crises while collaborating with the clergy, the religious, the faithful, and the law enforcement officials in creating and sustaining awareness of child abuse prevention policies to avert future harms.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Its too easy to learn and apply business leadership models to the pastoral sector. But is it the best alternative to form Church leaders? What are we missing when we use business models in ministry? This book is about creating more sensitivity on how some of these secularly learned models can inadvertently limit pastoral effectiveness, and suggests an hourglass approach to leadership capable of fostering a set of principles more harmonious with ministry intent. In many ways this book is a guide for cultivating and developing a more authentic sense of leadership in ministry, one that emerges from within the scholarly sources of the leadership field but at the same time is rooted in the principle leadership is a spiritual practice. This book is a must have for clergy, religious women and men, and anyone engaged with forming ministry leaders or performing leadership roles in diocesan, parish life, or Church ministry.

Is it possible to transform an average local church pastor into a highly effective and growth-oriented pastor? Leadership is not defined at birth. All of us can grow and develop into more effective leaders and we can do this at any time during our careers. In Spiritual Kaizen, Grant Hagiya works from the best secular and ecclesial models of leadership, comparing and contrasting the two, in order to draw out the best leadership practices available for current and future leaders of the church.

It presents seven behaviors practiced by leaders and members in high-performing parishes and provides real-life examples of these practices. The unique contribution of this work to the national discussion about parish life and leadership is its description of servant leadership and its explanation of how it works in a parish. This work suggests that parish life can be viewed in light of business principles such as the organizational behaviors of leaders and members in a Christian parish, and religious teaching, particularly the message of Jesus, who taught leaders to be servants and members to be disciples. Intended for pastors and parish leaders, pastoral associates and deacons, parish staff and lay members of parishes who are interested in leadership, it is sure to be indispensable reading for anyone who is interested in changing or improving the leadership, the activities, and the culture of their parish. +

There are many how-to resources on pastoral techniques, but very few on spiritual leadership. The author defines spiritual leadership as the ability to influence people internally to move from where they are to where God wants them to be and pastoral leadership as the ability to skillfully use the rites, rules and rituals of the Church to make that happen. Seminaries spend a lion share of their time emphasizing personal piety, but priests today must not only be good personally, they must be good at what they do.
