Book Synopsis Le verbe et sa conjugaison en français parlé by : Fernand Bentolila
Download or read book Le verbe et sa conjugaison en français parlé written by Fernand Bentolila and published by Editions Modulaires Européennes InterCommunication SPRL. This book was released on 2019 with total page 96 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. »--

Book Synopsis Morphology by Itself by : Mark Aronoff
Download or read book Morphology by Itself written by Mark Aronoff and published by MIT Press. This book was released on 1993-12-02 with total page 236 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Most recent research in generative morphology has avoided the treatment of purely morphological phenomena and has focused instead on interface questions, such as the relation between morphology and syntax or between morphology and phonology. In this monograph Mark Aronoff argues that linguists must consider morphology by itself, not merely as an appendage of syntax and phonology, and that linguistic theory must allow for a separate and autonomous morphological component. Following a general introductory chapter, Aronoff examines two narrow classes of morphological phenomena to make his case: stems and inflectional classes. Concentrating first on Latin verb morphology, he argues that morphological stems are neither syntactic nor phonological units. Next, using data from a number of languages, he underscores the traditional point that the inflectional class of a word is not reducible to its syntactic gender. He then explores in detail the phonologically motivated nominal inflectional class system of two languages of Papua New Guinea (Arapeshand Yimas) and the precise nature of the relation between this system and the corresponding gender system. Finally, drawing on a number of Semitic languages, Aronoff argues that the verb classes of these languages are purely inflectional although they are partly motivated by derivational and syntactic considerations.
Book Synopsis The Romance Languages by : Rebecca Posner
Download or read book The Romance Languages written by Rebecca Posner and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 1996-09-05 with total page 404 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What is a Romance language? How is one Romance language related to others? How did they all evolve? And what can they tell us about language in general? In this comprehensive survey Rebecca Posner, a distinguished Romance specialist, examines this group of languages from a wide variety of perspectives. Her analysis combines philological expertise with insights drawn from modern theoretical linguistics, both synchronic and diachronic. She relates linguistic features to historical and sociological factors, and teases out those elements which can be attributed to divergence from a common source and those which indicate convergence towards a common aim. Her discussion is extensively illustrated with new and original data, and an up-to-date and comprehensive bibliography is included. This volume will be an invaluable and authoritative guide for students and specialists alike.
Book Synopsis Because of You: Understanding Second-Person Storytelling by : Evgenia Iliopoulou
Download or read book Because of You: Understanding Second-Person Storytelling written by Evgenia Iliopoulou and published by transcript Verlag. This book was released on 2019-03-31 with total page 257 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Second-person storytelling is a continually present and diverse technique in the history of literature that appears only once in the oeuvre of an author. Based on key narratives of the post-war period, Evgenia Iliopoulou approaches the phenomenon in an inductive way, starting out from the essentials of grammar and rhetoric, and aims to improve the general understanding of second-person narrative within literature. In its various forms and typologies, the second person amplifies and expands the limits of representation, thus remaining a narrative enigma: a small narrative gesture - with major narrative impact.
Download or read book Models of Inflection written by Ray Fabri and published by Walter de Gruyter. This book was released on 2013-02-06 with total page 300 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The aim of the volume is to contribute towards a better understanding of inflectional morphology, as well as to provide a platform for researchers to discuss their results in the light of the particular framework they have chosen to work in. The first paper provides an overview of the main controversies within the area of inflection. Other papers deal with general aspects such as the difference between derivation and inflection, irregular verb inflection, animacy, and clitics. These are followed by studies on functional categories, the acquisition of inflection, a formal implementation of Russian verb inflection, and finally articles that deal specifically with aspects of German inflection.
