Book excerpt: This "Liber Amicorum" is published at the occasion of Judge Lucius Caflisch's retirement from a distinguished teaching career at the Graduate Institute of International Studies of Geneva, where he served as Professor of International Law for more than three decades, and where he has also held the position of Director. It was written by his colleagues and friends, from the European Court of Human Rights, from universities all around the world, from the Swiss Foreign Affairs Ministry and many other national and international institutions. The "Liber Amicorum Lucius Caflisch" covers different fields in which Judge Caflisch has excelled in his various capacities, as scholar, representative of Switzerland in international conferences, legal adviser of the Swiss Foreign Affairs Ministry, counsel, registrar, arbitrator and judge. This collective work is divided into three main sections. The first section examines questions concerning human rights and international humanitarian law. The second section is devoted to the international law of spaces, including matters regarding the law of the sea, international waterways, Antarctica, and boundary and territorial issues. The third section addresses issues related to the peaceful settlement of disputes, both generally and with regard to any particular means of settlement. The contributions are in both English and French.

Download or read book L'obligation de renvoi préjudiciel à la Cour de justice written by Laurent Coutron and published by Primento. This book was released on 2014-05-27 with total page 406 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book Synopsis Rule of Law through Human Rights and International Criminal Justice by : Charles Riziki Majinge
Download or read book Rule of Law through Human Rights and International Criminal Justice written by Charles Riziki Majinge and published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing. This book was released on 2015-10-05 with total page 590 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This project was undertaken not so much as a farewell to the contribution Adama Dieng has selflessly offered to humanity, but mainly as a token of appreciation to his dedication and contribution to the rule of law and human rights, especially in his native continent, Africa. As a high-ranking international civil servant, diplomat, teacher, activist and accomplished jurist, Adama Dieng has inspired, and indeed continues to inspire, a generation of men and women both in Africa and beyond with his unqualified commitment to the advancement of the ideals reflected in the United Nations Charter and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Through his work and commitment to the cause of international justice and conflict prevention, he has consistently placed the interests of his fellow men and women, and indeed those of his continent, before his own interests. It is, therefore, in recognition of his efforts that, his fellow jurists, friends and colleagues decided to honour his contribution through a collection of essays on a life dedicated to the advancement of international peace and justice through the rule of law. The contributions gathered here represent, in good measure, the values and beliefs in rule of law and human rights that have characterized Adama’s commitment to work towards a better Africa and a better world.
Book Synopsis ETINED - Volume 2 - Principes éthiques by : Ian Smith
Download or read book ETINED - Volume 2 - Principes éthiques written by Ian Smith and published by Council of Europe. This book was released on 2016-11-01 with total page 64 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Download or read book Expertise de justice written by Institut européen de l'Expertise et de l'Expert and published by Bruylant. This book was released on 2015-10-21 with total page 176 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

This book was released on 1997-10-08 with total page 578 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In April 1996 the ICJ/UNITAR "Colloquium on Increasing the Effectiveness of the Court" brought together from all corners of the world judges, legal advisers, practitioners of international law and jurists. It provided an unprecedented opportunity for an in-depth and detailed exchange of views not only on the Court's performance to date, but also on its future role, as well as on possible ways and means of enhancing its operation. There were some fifteen panels, covering subjects ranging from the Court's jurisprudence to its working methods, from assessment of its achievements to evaluation of its ability to handle issues arising from space exploration and the growing concern for the environment. All in all, it was a most comprehensive approach to the subject. This publication, which presents the papers delivered at the Colloquium and the discussions which took place around them, accordingly constitutes instructive reading for all who are concerned with the management and peaceful resolution of disputes. I hope for its widest possible dissemination.' "From the Foreword by Kofi A. Annan, Secretary-General of the United Nations,"
