Book excerpt: Excerpt from Laws Relating to Assessment and Taxation, 1913 In the preparation of this pamphlet the effort has been made to cover every feature of the revenue laws of general application, excluding in large part those which are local. For example, laws relating to taxation for city and town purposes solely, and not dovetailing in any way with the general revenue laws of the State, are omitted, though reference is made thereto in the index. The same applies to "Fees" "Carey Act," "Sheep Inspection" and "Water Assessment." The revenue segregation, as it appears in the Revised Laws of Nevada for 1912, is shown in detail, by the insertion of such amendments as affected them, and the exclusion of such acts or parts of acts as were repealed by session laws of 1913. Aside from Revised Laws segregation, in many cases only titles and those portions of acts directly affecting the state's revenues, are quoted. Original section or chapter numbers are retained in this compilation for the purpose of ready reference to the statutes, but no effort has been made to place them in numerical order, subject-matter being deemed of greater importance. The law creating the Nevada Tax Commission, which appears as the opening chapter hereof, vitally, affects every feature of the general revenue laws, and for a comprehensive understanding of any of its features this law must be read and thoroughly digested. That upon each trade, business or occupation hereinafter named, the following taxes shall be levied and paid for the year, ending Tax paid for on the thirty-first of December, eighteen hundred and sixty-three, and figmebnéims 31 for each and every year thereafter, viz: I. Bankers shall pay five hundred dollars. Every person shall be Bank $500. Cleerned a banker within the meaning of this act who keeps a place of business where credits are opened in favor of any person, firm or cor poration, by the deposit or collection of money or currency, and by whom the same or any part thereof shall be paid out or remitted upon the draft, check or order of such creditor; but not to include any bank legally authorized to issue notes as Circulation, nor agents for the sale bf merchandize for account of producers or manufacturers. II. Auctioneers shall pay fifty dollars and two and a half per centum Auctioneers on the gross amount of sales made: Provided however, That on all andtwo audahalf'sales at auction of stock or securities for money, the tax shall be one £52532 190131323? Fourth of one per centum on the gross amount of sales. Every person one per cent on shall be deemed an auctioneer, within the meaning of this act, whose occupation it is to offer property for sale to the highest or best bidder at public outcry. The tax upon the auctioneers shall be deemed a tax upon the personal privilege, to be paid by each individual engaged in the business, and without regard to the place at which the same is conducted. No tax shall be required upon auction sales made for No tax on per dealers in a business registered and taxed, and at their place of business, 133; $2283 re d or upon official sales at auction, made by judicial or executive officers, or by personal representatives, guardians or committees. III. Wholesale dealers in liquors of any and every description, in Wholesale geal eluding distilled spirits, fermented liquors, and wines of all kinds, shall pay two hundred dollars, and five per centum on the gross amount of gross salei sales made. Every person, other than the distiller or brewer, who shall sell or offer, for sale, any such liquors or wines, in quantities of more than three gallons at one time, ' to the same purchaser, shall be regarded as a wholesale dealer in liquors, within the meaning of this act. All persons who shall sell, or offer for sale, any such liquors or wines, in quantities less than three gallons at one time to the same person, shall be regarded as a retail dealemin liquors.
