Book excerpt: Excerpt from Lafayette Day, 1916 In the evening a Lafayette Day banquet was held at the waldorf-astoria under the auspices of the france-america Society which was attended by some 350 representative citizens, and at which addresses were delivered under the chairmanship Of Mr. F cunliffe-owen, the main addresses being those of the French Ambassador and Mr. James M. Beck. The Ambassador's address is included in this book with his kind permission and will be found following the report of the exercises at City Hall. Messages were read at the banquet from the President of the United States, Mr. Briand, president of the Council and Minister of Foreign Affairs of France, and Messrs. Joseph H. Choate, Theodore Roosevelt and Charles Stewart Davis-on, all three members of the Lafayette Day National Committee and Lafayette Day Citizens Committee of New York.
