Book Synopsis Korean Labor Law Guide by : Sunny Lee
Download or read book Korean Labor Law Guide written by Sunny Lee and published by Independently Published. This book was released on 2019-03-17 with total page 100 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Finding information on Korean labor law written in English is excruciatingly difficult. Any CEOs and HR managers who tried googling their questions on Korean labor law will understand what I mean. What they get after online searches are a bunch of websites that barely answer the questions. Even if there are relevant articles, they are often outdated and not detailed enough. I wrote this guide to address this lack of updated and relevant information in English with regard to Korean labor laws. Let me tell you briefly what you can get from this book. First, I summarize the most important rules of Korean labor laws governing work conditions. I focus on the the most important points of 10+ laws for work conditions. I only cover the matters that HR managers want to know. If you want to find the information in the book through online search, you should check out more than ten separate laws. However, lots of them have no English translation for the latest amendments. For example, the Labor Standards Act, the major labor law, has not been translated into English since 2014. Second, I explain all the information in plain English. I am not a fan of abstruse and complicated sentences. I did my best to get clear ideas of what is meant by the Korean texts of relevant laws and to explain them in plain English. Third, I quote titles and article numbers of relevant labor laws for all the sections in the book. Therefore, you can be sure that I am not making things up but faithfully conveying the information in the law. It is also useful for writing any inside HR report because you have the source to the information you find in the book. My book covers topics such as employment contract, work hours and overtime, ordinary wage, average wage, annual leave, holidays, social insurances, non-regular employees, dismissal, rules of employment, maternity leave, childcare leave, retirement benefits and more. About the author Sunny Lee is a freelance consultant specializing in labor laws of South Korea. As a consultant and certified public labor attorney, he has been giving advice on Korean labor laws to foreign CEOs and HR managers for the last fifteen years.

The text, and the readings (from area experts), are organized and written to provide the reader with, first, a broad understanding and insight into the global dimensions of the fast-emerging area of labor and employment issues (e.g., global legal standards and their interplay with domestic and foreign laws); and second, to show how these laws and approaches play out in specific EA countries (comparing global approaches with the specific laws of each country on four common agenda items: regulatory administration, workers' rights, trade unions and dispute resolution). The book should be of interest not only to lawyers, students, human resource personnel and government officials, but also to business investors, managers and members of the public interested in the growing phenomenon of changing labor laws and societies in China, South Korea and Japan.

Download or read book Employment Relations and HRM in South Korea written by Dong-One Kim and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2017-07-05 with total page 257 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: South Korea is one of the rare countries that has experienced political/industrial democratization and economic development simultaneously in a relatively short period. However, the full story of democratization and development processes displays two faces - positive and negative aspects to the deployment of labour/human resources. This book explains these seemingly contradictory outcomes of Korean employment relations (ER) and human resource management (HRM) based upon a theoretical framework that incorporates logics of environmental constraints and strategies of actors. During three key periods of the previous century (i.e., pre-1987, 1987 - 1997 and post-1997), the book discusses the paradigm shift in both ER and HRM. This much-needed text contains informative details on Korean ER and HRM of past and present, with theoretical and practical views, and of transformations and continuities. The book provides policy implications that will stimulate constructive debates regarding the mutual-gains strategies for policy makers, management and employees.

Book Synopsis Inequality in the Workplace by : Jiyeoun Song
Download or read book Inequality in the Workplace written by Jiyeoun Song and published by Cornell University Press. This book was released on 2014-02-06 with total page 248 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The past several decades have seen widespread reform of labor markets across advanced industrial countries, but most of the existing research on job security, wage bargaining, and social protection is based on the experience of the United States and Western Europe. In Inequality in the Workplace, Jiyeoun Song focuses on South Korea and Japan, which have advanced labor market reform and confronted the rapid rise of a split in labor markets between protected regular workers and underprotected and underpaid nonregular workers. The two countries have implemented very different strategies in response to the pressure to increase labor market flexibility during economic downturns. Japanese policy makers, Song finds, have relaxed the rules and regulations governing employment and working conditions for part-time, temporary, and fixed-term contract employees while retaining extensive protections for full-time permanent workers. In Korea, by contrast, politicians have weakened employment protections for all categories of workers. In her comprehensive survey of the politics of labor market reform in East Asia, Song argues that institutional features of the labor market shape the national trajectory of reform. More specifically, she shows how the institutional characteristics of the employment protection system and industrial relations, including the size and strength of labor unions, determine the choice between liberalization for the nonregular workforce and liberalization for all as well as the degree of labor market inequality in the process of reform.
