Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is a Commentary like no other today. It reveals the true nature of Jesus as He walked on the earth and fulfilled the very necessary role that was required because of Adam’s fall. It fulfills the passage of I Corinthians 15:45—the last Adam. Jesus had to be like us in order to take our place. He was not God in flesh as preached today from most pulpits. He was the manifestation of God, His Father. Manifestation is the KEY word. He was God manifested in the flesh. When the Apostles saw Jesus in action they saw God the Father, John 14:9-11. We can see God in Jesus. Another important message is that Jesus was our pattern. We, the Church, should be doing the things that He did today. He Said to the disciples:“As the Father sent Me, so send I you.”John 20:21. Then He included us in His prayer in John 17:20-21. The Bible has been translated by those who believe in the doctrine of the Trinity. This came from Constantine and the first Nicene Creed in the 300s AD with the penalty of death involving over 200 Bishops if rhey did not sign it as he commanded. It seems that two were willing to die for the truth. All that was required to emphasize that Jesus was God just involved some prepositions and pronouns. However, the bulk of Jesus’ confession indicates otherwise. The Prologue is the foundation of proof that Jesus was a human being just like you and me. The Lord told me that most everyone is a product of someone else’s teaching today. However, when I was first filled with the Holy Spirit in my mid-twenties Jesus told me to let Him teach me. I have been faithful to that command for nearly 65 years. This commentary is the result of that command.

Book excerpt: In Jesus The Pattern Son, Bill Britton presents the stunning premise that the life of Jesus in His humanity on earth sets a divine pattern for the endtime body of Christ, the Church. In this day when Christians are focused so much on signs and wonders, the author reminds us that Jesus Himself is God's greatest sign of all. This sign was given when Jesus was born in Bethlehem, but will be fulfilled in its completeness with the endtimes manifestation of the mature sons of God, when the "many-membered" body of Christ, the Church, receives the anointing of the Spirit "without measure," and walks in the power and authority of the Lord Himself. In that day will be fulfilled in the saints what Paul called "the riches of the glory of this mystery...which is Christ in you, the hope of glory" (Col. 1:27).While many Christians futilely await a "Rapture" that will take them far away from the travails of the earth, God actually has a far better plan. While the "children of darkness" are swept away in judgment, the "children of light" will be "entering into the day of God's glory, the unveiling of His power and majesty in the human flesh of His body, the Church." A glorious destiny awaits those who will press forward to enter into the fullness of mature sons of God.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For the Christian there is only one question that really matters: Who is Jesus Christ? The answer to this question determines the way we think about God and about ourselves and therefore it determines the way we live and the way we die. This book strives to answer that question by taking as its starting point a critical reading of the New Testament and by evaluating the role played by almost nineteen centuries of doctrinal and dogmatic tradition in fashioning the faith of the Christian today. This book invites the reader to engage in serious theological thought, but it is not written for professional theologians alone. It is written for all, inside and outside the churches, who are attracted by Jesus of Nazareth and who want to answer his own question: Who do you say that I am?

Book excerpt: The degree of our conformity to the image of the Lord Jesus Christ, the Son of God, determines the extent to which we are able to represent him/be his ambassadors. This is a short, must read, thought provoking, challenging, inspiring and incisive book; designed to revive your spirit, stimulate your mind and change your perspective to life. The Author believes that God hath shined in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ and that this treasure can be found in us, earthen /clay vessels, that the excellency of the power may be of God, and not of us II Corinthians 4: 6, 7.This book, The Pattern Son, does not only attest to this truth, but is guaranteed to be an invaluable asset to your library.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is a multi-view book in which representatives of differing viewpoints make a positive statement of their case, followed by responses from the others, and concluding with a rebuttal by the original author. The topic at hand in this book is the identity of Jesus (also known as Christology). What is the meaning of Jesus's identity as "the Son of God"? Charles Lee Irons argues that the title "Son of God" denotes his ontological deity from a Trinitarian perspective. Danny Andre Dixon and Dustin R. Smith challenge this view from two different non-Trinitarian viewpoints. Smith argues that Jesus is the authentically human Son of God, the Davidic Messiah, who did not possess a literal preexistence prior to his virgin birth. Dixon argues that Jesus is God's preexistent Son in the sense that God gave him life or existence at some undefined point prior to creation. The authors engage the topic from the perspective that reverences the authority and inspiration of Scripture as the final arbiter of this debate. The literature of early Judaism is also engaged in order to try to understand the extent to which the New Testament's Christology may have been influenced by or operated within the context of Jewish conceptions of divine secondary beings as agents of God.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Son of God, Son of Man is a reflection on the gospels of St. Mark and St. Luke that, like a diptych icon, presents two complementary images of Jesus as the New Joshua and the New Temple. The entire panorama of Israels history after the Exodus, from the entry into the Promised Land to the rebuilding of the Temple after the Babylonian Exile, is thus encapsulated in the life of Christ. This unique work builds on the authors previous commentaries on the gospels of John and Matthew, which portrayed Jesus as the New Genesis and the New Moses. The Second Vatican Council called on Catholics to read the Bible in the same spirit in which it was written. Pope Benedict has led the way into a genuinely post-critical scholarship that respects the many levels of meaning present in the sacred books. Eduardo Olaguer has followed the guidance of tradition and the leadership of the Pope in writing Gospel commentaries that take account of modern scholarship even as they reveal the depths of the divine Word. By connecting each passage of Scripture with others in both Old and New testament, he reads the Bible as the Church Fathers did, seeing the unity that comes from the Spirit working through the human authors and the events they describe. Full of extraordinary insights, this is the commentary that many people have been waiting for. -Stratford Caldecott Editor of Second Spring

Book excerpt: Ultimate fulfillment in life comes by choosing to live by the life principles Jesus modeled for us as the Son of Man. This book reveals those principles and demonstrates that if followed by believers, our lives can be an unending adventure of experiencing the supernatural intervention of the Creator of the universe in all our mundane, daily circumstances. Jesus' earthly life stands unique in human history as the pattern for all Christians. Most of us have many mentors in our lives, but they can never take the place of the one and only role model.

The text is written in an engaging style and is enhanced by pedagogical elements which make the complex material accessible to the student reader. Jesus Our Salvation is both sensitive to the challenges of contemporary Christology and well grounded in Catholic identity. The book maintains a positive, though critical, dialogue with many voices in the Christian tradition including those of the classical tradition, historical Jesus research, the evangelical tradition, and contemporary theological thought. It addresses important issues of today such as Christology's capacity to promote social transformation and the questions that are raised about Jesus from the perspective of religious pluralism.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This significant book, written a few years before his death, presents Ellul's fullest understanding of the meaning of Jesus' life. One finds all of the major themes of Ellul's writings. The first half of this book deals with Jesus' sufferings, which are by no means limited to Good Friday. Through Jesus' identification with "the whole human condition," we are offered the possibility of both enduring and overcoming suffering. Similarly, the temptations are understood beyond the wilderness temptation narrative since Jesus experiences them throughout his ministry. Ellul believes temptations are ultimately human avenues for tempting God, and so focuses on the discussion power and "non-power," be it on personal or political levels. Appropriately, Ellul enters into the passion narrative not simply in the context of suffering but in the context of temptation, where Jesus could have easily "proved his divinity," but chose instead to reveal both the character and way of God.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Jesus is God! Or is he man? Or is he both? Someone said that Jesus could either be, "... a liar or a lunatic, but if he is not one of these, he is indeed the Lord." Our opinion of Jesus cannot be determined by our best guesses or by the musings of the brightest philosphers and most learned among us. Only Scripture can tell us who and what Jesus is. But what does Scripture say about Jesus? Does it say he is merely a man that was chosen and anointed by God? Or is he that God? Does it say he was God's first-created angel? Or is he the God who created all things? Does it say that he was a mere prophet of God, or is he the God of the holy prophets himself? In Son of God and Man, Joel Hitchcock investigates verses in the Bible that some say suggest that Jesus is not God. Not only does he disprove this viewpoint, but he also proves from both the Old and New Testaments that Jesus is indeed the Almighty God. Joel also presents evidence of how Jesus was perceived in the Early Church as God, and shows from recorded history from that time, how that critics, persecutors and observers from outside the church were of the opinion that the Early Church thought Jesus was God. This book will show you that Jesus is both the Son of God as well as the Son of Man. He was fully Man, and simultaneiously God himself. It is Joel Hitchcock's prayer that you will fall in love with Jesus all over again, and JESUS CHRIST will become bigger to you than ever before!
