Book Synopsis What Jesus Demands from the World (All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. by : John Piper
Download or read book What Jesus Demands from the World (All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. written by John Piper and published by Crossway. This book was released on 2006-09-21 with total page 375 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The four Gospels are filled with demands straight from the mouth of Jesus Christ. These demands are Jesus' way of showing us who he is and what he expects of us. They are not the harsh demands of a taskmaster. For example, the demand that we come to Jesus is like the demand of a father to his child in a burning window, "Jump to me!" Or like the demand of a rich, strong, tender, handsome husband to an unfaithful wife, "Come home!" What Jesus demands from the world can be summed up as: "Trust and treasure me above all." This is good news! In What Jesus Demands from the World, John Piper has gathered many of Jesus' demands from the four Gospels. He begins with an introduction that puts the demands in a redemptive-historical context, then concisely examines each demand. The result is an accessible introduction for thoughtful inquirers and new believers, as well as meditative meat for veteran believers who want to know Jesus better.
Book Synopsis Welcome, Jesus, to Our World by : W. Brewster Willcox
Download or read book Welcome, Jesus, to Our World written by W. Brewster Willcox and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2012-10-05 with total page 101 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: WJTOW suggests that we might be better off paying less attention to Jesus Second Coming and more to his sense of irony and his outrage with religious bigotry. The questions people need to ask about this man of Nazareth have a lot to do with recognizing how different our world is from the one Jesus was born into and understood so intimately. Its probably true that the 21st century world, with all of its problems and troubles, is a much better world than the first century middle east that Jesus knew, and we shouldnt be ashamed to come to Jesus with all this package of Darwin and Einstein, Hubble telescopes and Mars landers, medical miracles and quantum physics. Our modern souls are, after all, all we have to give to him. This book looks at a handful of questions that thoughtful Christians have raised with the author (and a couple of his own) in more than 50 years in serving parishes in the US and Canada. The author takes a common sense approach to these issues and assumes that Jesus knew what he has talking about. Moreover, it still makes sense even in a modern, space-age setting.
Book Synopsis The Way of Jesus by : Prof. Bruce Chilton
Download or read book The Way of Jesus written by Prof. Bruce Chilton and published by Abingdon Press. This book was released on 2010-02-01 with total page 247 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The way of Jesus means that despite our tears and scars, we can become vessels of divine light. A young man loses his wife while their baby escapes without injury. In abject grief he reaches out to a friend for solace. What words of comfort are even possible? How can Jesus repair and renew these lives in this world? Author Bruce Chilton begins in the everyday. He shows how following Jesus not only repairs shattered lives, but renews them. While no broken life is ever simply reassembled and although there is no magic going back to the pristine, repair and renewal will empower us to truly live and love again. But our path requires something from us--mindful practice of Jesus' teachings about the soul, spirit, kingdom, insight, forgiveness, mercy, and glory.

Book Synopsis Jesus Speaks to a World in Turmoil by : Arline Phillips-Han
Download or read book Jesus Speaks to a World in Turmoil written by Arline Phillips-Han and published by CreateSpace. This book was released on 2014-11-07 with total page 118 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Jesus Speaks to a World in Turmoil is a fast-moving journalistic story of Jesus, whose unchanging voice of reason is needed more than ever when the daily news is consumed with threats to life and liberty. The historic, yet timeless teachings of Jesus Christ are relevant to solving many of the manmade problems in a world marred by hatred and violence. Yet modern culture, at the time of this book's release in late 2014, is marked by widespread indifference to the Christ sent to earth 2000 years ago to show people a better way. He is frequencly misrepresented, mocked, politicized and ignored, and his teaching of a superior lifestyle founded on the love of God and neighbor goes largely unheard. Massive global resurgence of persecution against Christians leaves no room for complacency. It is a critically important time to take a new look at who Christ is, and to examine why he called on everyone who cares (believers in God) to serve as healing salt in a troubled world. The author, Arline Phillips-Han, has transitioned to Christian journalism after a career of 33 years in health science writing and public relations for the University of Florida Health Science Center in Gainesville, FL.

Book Synopsis Jesus in a World of Colliding Empires, Volume One: Introduction and Mark 1:1--8:29 by : Mark J. Keown
Download or read book Jesus in a World of Colliding Empires, Volume One: Introduction and Mark 1:1--8:29 written by Mark J. Keown and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2018-03-20 with total page 275 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: At the time of Christ, world politics was an ebb and flow of colliding empires and forces. The world knew only dynastic succession and rule by force. Israel was swept up in this world. Her expectations of deliverance, while diverse, had in common the anticipation of violent liberation by an alliance of God, the expected one (Theo), and Israel’s forces. Her vision included the subjugation of the world to Yahweh. Any messianic claimant would be expected to fulfill this hope. Mark’s story of Jesus must be read against such expectations of military power. Mark knows that Jesus’ plan of salvation differed radically from this. Rather than liberation through revolution, it involved deliverance through humble, loving service, and cross-bearing. However, the disciples follow Jesus but do not understand Jesus’ purpose. They constantly expect war. So, the Gospel is then read from Mark’s full understanding and the disciples’ flawed perspective. In volume two of Jesus in a World of Colliding Empires, Keown continues to unpack Mark‘s Gospel (8:30–16:8), in which Jesus teaches the disciples what it means to be a Servant Messiah rather than a military conqueror. The then draws a range of conclusions and applications from Mark for life today.
