Il percorso è strutturato partendo dalle notizie storiche relative ai viaggi e alla predicazione del Poverello narrate nei testi più antichi del francescanesimo, che ci permettono di andare a rintracciare i luoghi esatti visitati da Francesco. Alle località citate nelle fonti si aggiungono poi alcuni tra i più suggestivi conventi ed edifici sacri che furono costruiti dai suoi discepoli pochi anni dopo il suo passaggio, o che sono legati in altro modo alla sua figura. Infine, trovano posto anche alcuni siti non direttamente legati alla presenza di Francesco o che lo sono da tradizioni non confermate dalle fonti, ma che valgono sicuramente una visita.Da Ascoli Piceno a Villa Verucchio (già in provincia di Rimini), un viaggio sulle orme del Poverello tra antichi monasteri, musei e borghi ricchi di fascino, alle radici della spiritualità francescana.
