Auf Basis der Aufgaben erfolgt eine Identifikation der relevanten Kernthemen, die im Kapitel drei ausführlich dargestellt werden. Die Kernthemen werden im Hinblick auf praktische Methoden, Hilfsmittel und Möglichkeiten zur Wahrnehmung der IT-Controlling-Aufgaben untersucht. Dies schließt auch die Instrumente im Sinne computergestützter Werkzeuge ein, die dafür zur Verfügung stehen.
