Book excerpt: Is Canada Even Real? is a funny nostalgia trip for Canadians and those poor, tobboganless souls outside our maple-scented borders. This book handily stitches together a fresh national identity based on Canada’s true modern icons. It’s a fun history lesson, and a quirky ode to a quirky land.
Download or read book Canada written by Mike Myers and published by Anchor Canada. This book was released on 2018-10-30 with total page 306 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Comedy superstar Mike Myers writes from the (true patriot) heart about his relationship with his beloved Canada. Mike Myers is a world-renowned actor, director and writer, and the man behind some of the most memorable comic characters of our time. But as he says: "no description of me is truly complete without saying I'm a Canadian." He has often winked and nodded to Canada in his outrageously accomplished body of work, but now he turns the spotlight full-beam on his homeland. His hilarious and heartfelt new book is part memoir, part history and pure entertainment. It is Mike Myers' funny and thoughtful analysis of what makes Canada Canada, Canadians Canadians and what being Canadian has always meant to him. His relationship with his home and native land continues to deepen and grow, he says. In fact, American friends have actually accused him of enjoying being Canadian--and he's happy to plead guilty as charged. A true patriot who happens to be an expatriate, Myers is in a unique position to explore Canada from within and without. With this, his first book, Mike brings his love for Canada to the fore at a time when the country is once again looking ahead with hope and national pride. Canada is a wholly subjective account of Mike's Canadian experience. Mike writes, "Some might say, 'Why didn't you include this or that?' I say there are 35 million stories waiting to be told in this country, and my book is only one of them." This beautifully designed book is illustrated in colour (and not color) throughout, and its visual treasures include personal photographs and Canadiana from the author's own collection.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A teacher, scholar, practitioner, and publicist, Richard Ullman has been a unique and influential figure in U.S. foreign and security policy over the past forty years. This volume, created on the initiative of some of Ullman's most accomplished former students, is less a summing up of his work than a sort of intellectual kaleidoscope held up to his ideas. The result is a spirited and highly readable set of essays on themes relating to U.S. foreign and defense policy in a period of nearly unprecedented dynamism in the international system. The volume includes contributions by David Gompert, I.M. Destler, Michael Doyle, Michael O'Hanlon, and eight other distinguished scholars and practitioners of international relations. A Council on Foreign Relations book.
Book Synopsis Canada is Not a Real Country by : Thomas Schnurmacher
Download or read book Canada is Not a Real Country written by Thomas Schnurmacher and published by . This book was released on 1996 with total page 174 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Exploring a politically and culturally charged issue, this volume argues that Canadians will lose their country if they continue to tacitly endorse the separatist myth that Canada is not good enough for Quebec. Explaining how the Quebec Liberals and the Parti Québécois have played good cop/bad cop over the past 30 years—extorting endless concessions from Canada in the process—the book urges readers to challenge the separatists on their "right" to unilaterally break up the country. It also urges the federal government to issue a reality check to all Quebecois citizens, outlining the real costs of separation. This critique of the Canadian political scene may be sobering, but the book's conclusion is optimistic: Canada will survive—and thrive—not because of its politicians, but in spite of them.

Download or read book Mirror Man written by Ronald A.Fenn and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2011-07-20 with total page 265 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book is a compilation of short vignettes describing certain seen observations from the point of view of one living in an unreal environment and unreal reality except for sometimes far too much of both. It tries to explain through a mental split of thinking the disorder of being black and white on a red and white flag which the flag of Nigeria was used to make a new flag for a young nation at peace. Some of the book is autobiographical and some more involved in detailed analysis of control by technology and the human animal Man. It may seem to be rather complex and hard to read but one must understand I wrote the book in a psychiatric hospital being brainwashed to get back on my feet again. It spans a life time of observation in the nation of Canada as seen through an african who is white blinded by so many mindsets about colour and race and origins. Leaving everything behind that was most precious in Africa I have had to live this nation s reality as my own sight seen or unseen often misplaced or taken for granted or isolated and or used and abused.

Book Synopsis The Real Cruel Sea by : Richard Woodman
Download or read book The Real Cruel Sea written by Richard Woodman and published by Pen and Sword. This book was released on 2011-07-06 with total page 729 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The renowned maritime historian’s compelling study of the vital role played by merchant seamen during WWII in the Battle of the Atlantic. For the British, the Battle of the Atlantic was a fight for survival. They depended on the safe transit of hundreds of merchant ships carrying food and supplies from America to feed the country and keep the war effort going. On top of that, they had to export manufactured goods to pay for it all. Britain's merchant navy, a disparate collection of private vessels, had become the country's lifeline. While its seamen were officially non-combatants, they bravely endured the onslaught of the German U-boat offensive until Allied superiority overwhelmed the enemy. Drawing extensively on first-hand sources, Richard Woodman establishes the importance of the British and Allied merchant fleets in the struggle against Germany. This important study elevates the heroic seamen who manned these ships to their rightful place in the history of the Second World War.

Book Synopsis The Real Canadian (Classic Reprint) by : John A. Thomas Lloyd
Download or read book The Real Canadian (Classic Reprint) written by John A. Thomas Lloyd and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-03-22 with total page 262 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Real Canadian Facts, even those of sentiment, are facts, and it might be not uninteresting to examine, link by link, the long chain of cause and effect which has led through Canadian history to this momentous and spontaneous decision. It was given, it must be remembered, by the representatives of those two great European races who fought desperately for the mastership of Canada. It was given by the fellow countrymen of both Wolfe and Montcalm. For, at this cross-roads of the Dominion's history, French Canada has definitely associated herself with the national verdict against any economic change that might indirectly tend to sever the Dominion from the British connection.
