Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This work is devoted to an investigation of the interaction between plasma and travelling and standing electromagnetic waves within a frequency range from 1 to 10 MHz. The character of the damping of a high-frequency field in a plasma which depends on the parameters of the plasma and of the field, was experimentally investigated in devices having discharge tubes with toroidal and linear configurations. The influence of the high-frequency field upon the charge particle distributions in the plasma was studied. The presence of radial forces was shown, which act upon the plasma in the high frequency field by compressing the plasma toward the tube axis. In devices with a travelling electromagnetic wave, the authors investigated the constant azimuthal current arising as a result of the transport of plasma electrons by the wave. The dependence of this current upon the plasma and wave parameters was found. It is shown that azimuthal currents of magnitude higher than some critical value excite instabilities of a 'beam' character in the plasma of the toroid.

This book was released on 1994 with total page 186 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The interaction of electromagnetic waves with matter has always been a fascinating subject of study. As matter in the universe is mostly in the plasma state, the study of electromagnetic waves in plasmas is of importance to astrophysics, space physics and ionospheric physics. The physics of electromagnetic wave interacting with electron beams and plasmas also serves as a basis for coherent radiation generation such as free electron laser and gyrotron and advanced accelerators. This monograph aims at reviewing the physical processes of linear and nonlinear collective interactions of electromagnetic waves with electron beams and unmagnetized plasmas.
Book Synopsis Plasma Dynamics and Interaction with High Frequency Fields by : K. R. MacKenzie
Download or read book Plasma Dynamics and Interaction with High Frequency Fields written by K. R. MacKenzie and published by . This book was released on 1968 with total page 6 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Under a previous grant the plasmas were produced primarily by feeding high frequency energy from an oscillator to electrodes in a magnetic field. Toward the end of the grant period, this effort was de-emphasized in favor of a method for generating the plasma by photoionization. These photons have very high frequencies and energies. The photoionized plasmas have been so fruitful that this phase of the research was expanded considerably under the present grant. Three independent photoionization facilities are now in operation. The largest was used to confirm a quasi-linear theoretical prediction by Field and Fried of this department, in which a suddenly applied electric field causes a plasma current to increase and then sharply decrease due to the growth of ion acoustic waves. The agreement between theory and experiment turned out to be extremely good. The second piece of apparatus was used to measure the expansion and diffusion of a plasma column with and without the presence of a longitudinal magnetic field. The third piece of apparatus was designed to examine the behavior of large plasma density pertubations.

Download or read book Frontiers in High Energy Density Physics written by National Research Council and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 2003-05-11 with total page 177 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Recent scientific and technical advances have made it possible to create matter in the laboratory under conditions relevant to astrophysical systems such as supernovae and black holes. These advances will also benefit inertial confinement fusion research and the nation's nuclear weapon's program. The report describes the major research facilities on which such high energy density conditions can be achieved and lists a number of key scientific questions about high energy density physics that can be addressed by this research. Several recommendations are presented that would facilitate the development of a comprehensive strategy for realizing these research opportunities.

Book Synopsis Plasma Physics In Active Wave Ionosphere Interaction by : Spencer P Kuo
Download or read book Plasma Physics In Active Wave Ionosphere Interaction written by Spencer P Kuo and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2017-11-29 with total page 246 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: One essential feature of plasma media is supporting various plasma waves and dictating electromagnetic wave propagation. This textbook provides students with an understanding of plasma waves, which is key to theoretical and experimental plasma research and understanding the experimental results, and will enable them to expand their studies into related areas. The first part of the text provides the basis of plasma modes, including the formulations, analyses and the physical characterizations. The second part introduces techniques for the studies of wave propagation in inhomogeneous plasma and of nonlinear mode-mode coupling in turbulent plasma as well as in active plasma, applied to exemplify the excitation of parametric instabilities in high-frequency (HF) wave heated ionospheric plasma. The third part introduces nonlinear plasma waves of periodic function forms and of solitary forms; a potential application of the HF wave-ionosphere interaction for setting up an ionospheric very-low-frequency transmitter for underwater communications is introduced. This is also a useful reference book for researchers in the areas of plasma physics and engineering, and in geophysics.

This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 410 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book contains the lectures presented at the International Workshop on Relation between Laboratory and Space Plasmas held at Gakushi-Kaikan (University Alumni Association) Kanda in Tokyo, Japan on 14 - 15 April, 1980. Its aim was to bring together laboratory, fusion and space plasma physicists and to highlight the communality of basic plasma phenomena, similarities and differences observed in the laboratory and in space, thus exchanging information tnd views on new ideas to link both areas. Although similar type of conferences were held in Europe and recently in the States, this is the first time we have had in Japan for such an international meeting, which may be regarded as an extended version of our national Workshop held twice at the Institute of Plasma Physics of Japan (IPPJ) in 1976 and in 1977 (IPPJ Research Report No. 286 and No. 365). The Workshop consisted of seven regular sessions and one special session with approximately ninety participants from allover the world. Thirty-six papers, invited and contributed, were presented, nine from U. S. A., three from U. S. S. R., two of each from Germany, France, India, one of each from Sweden, Canada, Belgium and fifteen from Japan. The topics covered were: (1) The Critical Velocity (2) Beam Plasma Discharges and Interactions (3) Double Layers and Shocks (4) Instabilities in the Equatorial and Auroral Electrojets (5) Turbulent and Anomalous Plasmas (6) Plasma Irregularities (7) Solar Plasma Phenomena (8) Active Experiments in Space Plasmas and Their Simulation in the Laboratory.

Book Synopsis Topics on Nonlinear Wave-Plasma Interaction by : BAUMGÄRTEL
Download or read book Topics on Nonlinear Wave-Plasma Interaction written by BAUMGÄRTEL and published by Birkhäuser. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 215 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The text presented here is an extended english version of a report by the authors which appeared in April 1983 at the Institute of Cosmical Research of the Academy of Sciences of the GDR in German. It covers several selected topics on nonlinear wave-plasma interactio,ll in a treatment based on a hydrodynamic plasma description. Thus, no attempt has been made to give a comprehensive view on all aspects of the interaction of strong electromagnetic waves with plasmas. The text is partly introductory and presents partly current results. The authors hope that it will be of interest to students and scientists not only in the field of plasma physics. The authors thank Akademie-Verlag, Berlin and Birkhiiuser-Verlag, Basel for their encouragement to prepare the English manuscript and Mrs. Ch. Geier for carefully typing the final off-set version.
