Family purchase decision are being influenced by children by a greater extent. Hence, all these developments and changes have resulted in creating the need to gauge and identify certain variables which impact children to influence their family in purchase decision making. Moreover, this would also highlight the overall importance and role of children within the family. Therefore the aim of this study was to test certain factors which creates impact on children to influence their parents. This was supported by conducting of quantitative (questionnaires) and qualitative survey (unstructured interviews). In order to achieve the research objectives around 230 respondents through quantitative and 5 through qualitative approach were analyzed. This research will be beneficial for the store owners & marketers/researchers to identify and create effectives strategies which would impact the children to influence their parents in the purchase decisions. However this research is limited to Karachi only as a result of budget and time constraints, therefore for further study this research can also be based on a wider scope i.e., outside Karachi including maximum variables that can affect the children to influence in the family purchase decision. This would allow to further analyze and get more insights over the topic.

Book excerpt: This study was developed to identify the dynamics of family decision-making processes when purchasing a youth sport camps. Family decision-making has been an interesting subject in consumer behavior for many years but youth sport programs have not been widely studied. To examine the family decision process, both parents and children were asked to complete a web-based questionnaire in which they reported their perceptions of the relative influence of mother, father and child at each decision stage. Family members' influence in the purchase decision was analyzed using a three-phase decision stage model; problem initiation stage, information search stage, and final purchase decision. Both parents and children perceived parents to have the most influence at each stage. Parents perceived that between the husband and wife, decisions were mostly made jointly. Children had the most influence at the problem initiation stage which was consistent with previous literature regarding recreation and leisure service. As children's age increased, so did their relative influence over the purchase decision. The dominance of parents at the overall decision-making process and children's involvement at the beginning of the decision process indicates that youth sport program marketers should develop dual channel marketing strategies to effectively and efficiently reach decision makers at each stage of the process.

However, their influence varies depending on the products and cultures, and many particularities of this phenomenon remain under-researched. This is especially true in regard to the countries that are categorized as “emerging economies”. Some of them still do not have reliable measurements of their cultural dimensions, and this increases difficulties in performing comparative analysis there. On the other hand, these countries offer a broad and important scene for child influence studies. This study concentrates on analysis and comparisons of children's influence on parental purchase decision-making in Lithuania and Azerbaijan. These countries are different in, at least, two Hofstede's cultural dimensions that are important in family decision-making: individualism and uncertainty avoidance. Also, the study contributes to the existing research by using a product use-related categorization of product groups. Such an approach reveals significant difference in terms of how children exert their influence on purchasing services versus tangible products for the family use. Interesting differences between the countries in terms of children's influence on purchasing products for their personal use also opens a new scene for future studies that might consider a similar product categorization approach.
