Book excerpt: The Wiley-Interscience Paperback Series consists of selected booksthat have been made more accessible to consumers in an effort toincrease global appeal and general circulation. With these newunabridged softcover volumes, Wiley hopes to extend the lives ofthese works by making them available to future generations ofstatisticians, mathematicians, and scientists. "The title of the book more or less sums up the contents. Itappears to me to represent a real breakthrough in the art ofdealing in ‘unconventional’ data. . . . I found thewhole book both readable and enjoyable. It is suitable for dataanalysts, academic statisticians, and professional softwarewriters." –Journal of the Royal Statistical Society "The book assumes a working knowledge of all of the principalresults and techniques used in least squares multiple regression,as expressed in vector and matrix notation. Given this background, the book is clear and easy to use. . . . The techniques areillustrated in great detail with practical data sets fromeconometrics." –Short Book Reviews, International Statistical Institute Regression Diagnostics: Identifying Influential Data and Sourcesof Collinearity provides practicing statisticians andeconometricians with new tools for assessing quality andreliability of regression estimates. Diagnostic techniques aredeveloped that aid in the systematic location of data points thatare unusual or inordinately influential; measure the presence andintensity of collinear relations among the regression data; andhelp to identify variables involved in each and pinpoint estimatedcoefficients potentially most adversely affected. The bookemphasizes diagnostics and includes suggestions for remedialaction

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With detailed examples, this book demonstrates the use of the computer program LISREL and how it can be applied to the analysis of interactions in regression frameworks. The authors consider a wide range of applications including: qualitative moderator variables; longitudinal designs; and product term analysis. They describe different types of measurement error and then present a discussion of latent variable representations of measurement error which serves as the foundation for the analyses described in later chapters. Finally they offer a brief introduction to LISREL and show how it can be used to execute the analyses. Readers can use this book without any prior training in LISREL and will find it an excellent introduction to analytic methods that deal with the problem of measurement error in the analysis of interactions.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This rigorous textbook introduces graduate students to the principles of econometrics and statistics with a focus on methods and applications in financial research. Financial Econometrics, Mathematics, and Statistics introduces tools and methods important for both finance and accounting that assist with asset pricing, corporate finance, options and futures, and conducting financial accounting research. Divided into four parts, the text begins with topics related to regression and financial econometrics. Subsequent sections describe time-series analyses; the role of binomial, multi-nomial, and log normal distributions in option pricing models; and the application of statistics analyses to risk management. The real-world applications and problems offer students a unique insight into such topics as heteroskedasticity, regression, simultaneous equation models, panel data analysis, time series analysis, and generalized method of moments. Written by leading academics in the quantitative finance field, allows readers to implement the principles behind financial econometrics and statistics through real-world applications and problem sets. This textbook will appeal to a less-served market of upper-undergraduate and graduate students in finance, economics, and statistics.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Theoretically, the formational and developmental mechanism of Shanzhai Model (the Chintrepreneurship, the China-way of Doing Business) theorized in this text, in addition to complying with the traditionally Western dominated frameworks of risk-taking-oriented, technology-oriented, resource-oriented, and speculation-oriented – also creates the peculiar or updated characteristics, complementary and supplementary to the existing theories of entrepreneurship and strategic management. The peculiar characteristics of Shanzhai Model may be attributed to the government policy guidance, from macroeconomic level, to technology development level, and to market expansion level, through the regulated cycle process of CCP government ‘Five-Year-Plan’. Such a dynamic process of government policy system determines the dynamisms of China economy, industry and enterprises, linking the previous weaknesses into the upgrade or rectification of the next five-year-plan, forcing enterprises to obligately upgrade or adjust their business and management operations (given the absolute autocracy of China government). Practically, the imitation-based cost-saving operations on the enterprise level, the ‘Wolf Like’ clustered industry-chain operations organized by the principle of ‘Risks-Resources-Benefits Sharing’ on the industry level, and the ‘Price-to-Performance’ products advantages on the market level – together, they have been contributing to the leapfrog of China economy, by taking advantages of increasingly globalized business environment and the network (Internet) information technology system, turning China into an economic Shanzhai, corruption Shanzhai, and a political Shanzhai, imposing the ‘One Belt One Road’ hegemonism on the harmony of international community. Is it too late? The contribution of this text material may benefit MBA, Ph.D students in management, and especially benefiting to those corporate executives. Regardless of De-Globalization or De-China campaigns, the flow of business is inevitably and eternally beyond the boundaries of countries one way or another, sooner or later. Book excerpt: Control and Dynamic Systems, Volume 37: Advances in Industrial Systems provides an overview of the state of knowledge in industrial systems. This volume contains nine chapters and begins with a paper on the objective measures used to characterize the performance of computers which control critical processes. This is followed by separate chapters on the design of automotive power train control systems; control techniques in the pulp and paper industry; developments production scheduling research and practice; a general model-based failure detection and diagnosis methodology; and the application of model-predictive control techniques to problems with several input and output variables. Subsequent chapters deal with techniques for dealing with the problem of providing a complete, coherent, and reliable data base from a collection of switch and breaker status data and measurements; systematic approaches to modifying a finite element model; and optimization techniques in industrial chemical systems. The contributions in this volume will provide a unique and significant reference source for practicing professionals as well as those involved with advancing the state of the art.
