Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The focus of this two-volume work is osseo integration. It discusses the use of glue to attach bony tissue as well as the use of the absence of biochemical interactions between some oxide ceramics (particularly pure A1203 ceramic) and the adjacent tissue. This book also demonstrates the possibility of controlling the interface remodelling by the stresses and strains created by the insertion of the implant. Written in a concise, easy-to-read format, this text covers the use of implants in orthopedics, maxillo-facial surgery, and dentistry. All those involved with bioengineering, orthopedics, maxillo-facial surgery, dentistry, and biomechanics will find this reference to be of particular interest.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book excerpt: The Role of Surface Modification on Bacterial Adhesion of Bio-implant Materials: Machining, Characterization, and Applications, explores the relationship between the surface roughness of artificial implants used for hard tissue replacement and their bacterial adhesion. It summarizes the reason for the failure of implants, the mechanisms of bacterial formation on implant surfaces, and the fundamental and established methods of implant surface modification techniques. It provides readers with an organized and rational representation about implant manufacturing and mechanical surface modification. It also explores the use of developed unidirectional abrasive flow finishing processes to finish biomaterials at the nano-level. It is an invaluable guide for academics, graduate students, biomaterial scientists, and manufacturing engineers researching implants, related infections, and implant manufacturing. Key Features: Explores implant related infections Discusses surface modification techniques Contains information on the mechanical finishing processes and complete guide on developed cutting edge unidirectional abrasive flow finishing technology

This book was released on 1996-05-01 with total page 144 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Placement of endosseous dental implants requires the growth and tight opposition of bone tissue to the implant surface. Histomorphological evaluation of various implant systems have shown variable contact between the bone and implant surface. Previous studies have alluded to the fact that various factors probably influence the interactions occurring at the bone-implant interface. These included specific surface characteristics such as chemical composition, surface texture and microgeometry, surface treatments including sterilization methods, presence of surface contaminants, and types of cells interacting at the implant interface. However, the role these factors play in osseointegration is not well known at this time. The object of this study, therefore, was to evaluate the effect of some of these factors on cell response.

The authors are drawn not only from academic institutions but also from industry, so that practical aspects of implant fabrication and material handling are covered that are often lacking in biomaterials texts. Besides readers with a general interest in biomaterials, the book will interest materials investigators, surgeons and dentists using titanium implants, medical scientists and engineers, as well as lecturers at universities or institutes who would benefit by having ready access to authoritative information on the use of titanium for implants, devices and instruments. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.
