The Merkiaari are back, but news can only travel as fast as a foldspace drone. Captain Eric Penleigh of the 501st Infantry Regiment looks forward to an easy assignment. All he needs to do is evaluate the best cutting-edge tech the Alliance has to offer and make nice with new alien allies. Book excerpt: A corrupted power stirs from beyond the grave. The Necromancer Queen will rise again. Seventeen years have passed since the Necromancer Queen Talia was overthrown and slain, and her capital city destroyed by the Knights of the Order of Eternal Vigilance. Anskar DeVantte, raised in the sacred disciplines of the Order, is now ready to face the brutal initiation trials to become a consecrated knight-sorcerer. But the further Anskar rises in the ranks the more his faith wavers, and he is beset by harrowing dreams and uncertainty. As troubling powers awaken within him, a schism grows between Anskar and his hallowed Order, and he draws the hungry gaze of the vanquished queen’s fanatical followers. As Anskar pieces together the mysteries of his early life, and begins to understand the malevolent forces gathering in his path, he finds himself with a crucial choice to make: Remain loyal to the Order’s righteous mission, or control the dark powers growing within him. Either way, his destiny is steeped in war. The only question is, which side will he be on?

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Includes over 50 maps and illustrations This monograph forms part of the Indochina Monograph series written by senior military personnel from the former Army of the Republic of Vietnam who served against the northern communist invasion. “For several years Cambodia, under the leadership of Prince Norodom Sihanouk, had condoned the use of part of its territory by the Vietnamese Communists for infiltration routes and logistic bases. These bases supported enemy activities in South Vietnam’s Military Regions 3 and 4 and a significant part of Military Region 2 but were protected because of Cambodia’s declared neutrality. However, the change in government on 18 March 1970 provided South Vietnam and the United States the opportunity to neutralize and disrupt much of the enemy logistic system across the border. Sanctioned by the new Cambodian government and approved by the Presidents of the Republic of Vietnam and the United States, South Vietnamese and U.S. forces launched combined operations into Cambodia’s border area from 30 April to 30 June 1970. As the Assistant Chief of Staff J3 of the Joint General Staff, RVNAF, I participated in the combined planning for these historic operations with military representatives from Cambodia and the United States and then monitored the operations constantly for the Chairman JGS. In conducting my analysis I have relied on my personal involvement and observations as J3 and interviews with former members of the Republic of Vietnam Armed Forces.” -Author’s Introduction.

Book excerpt: For Shanna, joining the Scout Corps had been a dream come true. The Scouts were charged with expanding their knowledge of Frontier, a hostile planet their ancestors had crashlanded on 300 years before. As the youngest in her class, Shanna struggles to find acceptance and respect amongst her older peers - a task made more difficult by the fact that she has not just one, but two of the colonists' huge feline companions, their starcats. On a routine patrol, she and the other cadets are swept up in the greatest challenge yet to be faced by the settlers of Frontier. Now they find themselves on the very frontline of a war they knew nothing about, and possibly the Federation of Race's last chance against the hostile Garsal. Suddenly their world has changed, and in ways never dreamed of by Shanna and her fellow scouts.

Download or read book The Borsen Incursion written by Julian M. Miles and published by Lizards of the Host Publishing. This book was released on with total page 281 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For five centuries, a unified Earth has been the centre, and ruler, of all it surveys: an empire that spans two thousand worlds. It has been unchallenged for three hundred years. The Borsen use strange technology to strike down any opposition with terrifying ease. Yet, their seemingly unstoppable forces show an inexplicable reserve. It leads a few to suspect they have a purpose beyond conquest. Faced with a dire threat for the first time in living memory, military bureaucracy and entrenched arrogance lead to grievous losses. Even when a miraculous new technology offers an upper hand, factionalism arises to threaten those who use it. As the Borsen escalate their offensive, the forces of Earth are hamstrung by infighting and political manoeuvring. Finally, one group rebels, turning against the edicts of the stultified command structure. But have they done so in time to save humanity? A centuries-spanning tale of space warfare told from major and minor viewpoints: using over fifty pieces of carefully-crafted short and flash fiction, this book will take you from the start of the incursion to its end, letting you witness the war while revealing its impacts and revelations from every angle.

Book excerpt: "This book relates a tale of terrorism and artificial intelligence which takes over the entire world, creeping into all phases of U.S. economics, political, military, and electronic communication. Prevention is the best medicine, and being farsighted gives warnings of premonitions and bad dreams of a possible dystopian future, not just a projection for terrorist takeover. To become aware of how it could be done is a must read for the espionage and CIA enthusiast and those who want to prevent electronic terrorism by changing the present."--Jacket.
Book Synopsis Community-based Control of Invasive Species by : Theodore Alter
Download or read book Community-based Control of Invasive Species written by Theodore Alter and published by CSIRO PUBLISHING. This book was released on 2019-06-01 with total page 289 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Invasive species are among the greatest challenges to environmental sustainability and agricultural productivity in the world. One of the most promising approaches to managing invasive species is voluntary citizen stewardship. However, in order for control measures to be effective, private citizens often need to make sustained and sometimes burdensome commitments. Community-Based Control of Invasive Species is based on five years of research by leading scholars in natural resource and human behavioural sciences, which involved government and citizen groups in Australia and the United States. It examines questions including, 'how can citizens be engaged in voluntarily managing invasive species?', 'what communication strategies will ensure good motivation and coordination?' and 'how can governing bodies support citizens in their efforts?'. With chapters on institutional frameworks, changing governance, systems thinking, organisational learning, engagement, communication and behavioural change, this book will be a valuable reference for researchers and practitioners involved in natural resources management.
