This book was released on 2021-03-11 with total page 27 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There is increasing awareness of the need for, and a growing movement to apply, the ecosystem approach to fisheries (EAF) and develop sustainable linkages between climate change adaptation (CCA) and disaster risk management (DRM). Fisheries learning exchanges (FLEs) can be useful for enhancing fisheries management that is guided by these concepts. In the Caribbean there exists little guidance on FLEs that focus on the concepts of EAF, CCA and DRM. Although best practices exist, guidance for designing and implementing suitable exchange programmes is almost non-existent. This report seeks to fill this gap by providing practical guidance. First, concepts are presented to underpin good FLE practices. Two case studies from the Caribbean are offered as examples of recent FLEs, with lessons learnt from the experiences. Next, guidelines for organising FLEs are outlined, followed by potential challenges and solutions to be considered. Finally, useful resources for additional practical guidance are set out with links for easy access.

Book excerpt: This formidable selection of papers reflects the psycholinguistic and sociolinguistic underpinnings of the interface between language and education. Following an introduction that positions the field of educational linguistics historically and conceptually, the volume presents 15 contributions by leading scholars that cover the four areas most central to the field: - Language teaching, language learning and literacy (Widdowson, Bialistok, Cohen & Allison); - Language testing (Bachman, Davies, and Shohamy); - Multilingualism, minority languages and language planning (Bratt-Paulston, Fishman, Lambert, Amara, de Bot & van Els); - Language policy (Clyne, Tucker, Donato & Murday, McNamara & Lo Bianco, and Hornberger). New Perspectives and Issues in Educational Language Policy is published in honour of Bernard Dov Spolsky and reflects his impact on applied linguistics in general and educational linguistics in particular. The breadth and coverage makes this an indispensable title for future research in the field of educational linguistics.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Foreign language teaching in America today falls into three distinct fields of influence and interest: public and private schools, college and other post-secondary programs, and courses for adult learners. At a time when academics and instructors in each of these fields seek to answer similar questions, too few published resources recognize and address the parallels among them. In response, Foreign Language Education in America is an edited book with contributions that represent the diversity in foreign language education today, including perspectives from elementary, middle schools, high schools, university-level courses, summer programs, federal government, and international learning. This is a practical guide to the state of the field that fills a much-needed gap for scholars, researchers, administrators, and practitioners who are looking for a resource that describes effective practices across the field.
