Book excerpt: Globalization has restructured the society as a whole such that product marketing by corporate organizations have gone beyond the traditional Radio, Television and Newspaper advertisement and embraced the social media. All this is in the bid to acquire some competition advantage towards profitability. This study is aimed at investigating enhancing management strategy for profitability of corporate organizations in Nigeria. The study used primary data collected with the use of questionnaire distributed to 50 managers of 5 quoted companies, purposively selected from among leading firms in their different areas of industry in Port Harcourt Rivers State. The data was analysed using frequency percentages and weighted mean to answer the research questions. The findings of the study agreed with some previous research findings that the processes of strategic management generally include environmental scanning, formulation and implementation of strategies, and evaluation and control; but disagreed with some who posited that management strategies have been fully embraced in Nigeria. The study finds that some corporate organizations are yet to fully come to terms with the processes of management strategies. It found that some will formulate strategies but will not work according to its precepts. Finally, it is discovered that formulating the strategies without following the other processes is like not having any strategy at all. Therefore, the study concluded that management strategies have not been fully adopted by corporate organizations in Nigeria, and that to enhance management strategies; the full processes as identified by the model must be followed. And this will activate its positive impact on the firms' competitive advantage as well as profitability.

Book excerpt: This study examines the relationship between corporate entrepreneurship, innovation and sustained competitive advantage in the Nigeria manufacturing firms. Corporate entrepreneurship and innovation has been of interest to scholars and practitioners due to its beneficial effect on competitiveness. A survey research design was used. A simple and systematic sampling technique was used to determine the sample size. A total of 263 questionnaires were distributed to senior managers or CEO, and middle level staff at each manufacturing firm surveyed. Data from the study were collected analyzed using descriptive statistics, product moment correlation and regression analysis with statistical package for social science (SPSS V. 20). The results of the study revealed that there is a significant relationship between corporate entrepreneurship, innovation and sustained competitive advantage in the Nigeria manufacturing firm. Thus, corporate entrepreneurship and innovation has significant impact on the sustainability of the Nigeria manufacturing firms. The F-value (159.417) indicates that the model is good and that corporate entrepreneurship and innovation is a good predictor of sustainable competitive advantage in the Nigeria manufacturing firm. The study shows that the resources needed by organizations to achieve sustainable competitive advantage are mainly those that are imperfectly imitable and organizational specific procedures (organizational exploitation) developed overtime. It is this uniqueness which is not tradable that gives a firm an edge. It is hereby recommended that manufacturing firm in Nigeria should adopt corporate entrepreneurship and innovation as a panacea for survival as this will help them surmount the challenge of obsolescence and achieve sustained competitive advantages.

How can technology and industrial policies achieve green innovation? This volume critically examines whether the "stimulus-response" notion of environmental policy functions as the primary motivation for the adoption of pollution control technologies. It also questions whether technology and industrial policies can help to achieve the objective of green innovation. Interesting and well-researched empirical case studies offer important insights into the observed trends in the quantitative analysis. Focusing in particular on Nigerian industry, John Adeoti exposes the gains from and constraints upon firms' technology investment in pollution control.

Book excerpt: Since early 1960s Nigeria, economy has been unstable and monolithic, centered on crude oil production and export. Instability of Nigeria economy is contributory to why only less than 20 percent small startup businesses survive the first five years. In spite of the unstable business environment, owners created approximately 17.3 million small businesses across Nigeria and employed a total of approximately thirty-two million workers with contribution of about 45 percent to the GDP. Based on theory of constraints, the purpose of this qualitative multiple-case study was to explore strategies required by some small business owners to survive Nigerias unstable economy beyond five years. Data were collected through semistructured interviews with three small business owners who had succeeded in business beyond the first five years from three different regions in Nigeria. The business strategies may help prospective and existing Nigerian small business owners improve profit and sustain business for survival beyond five years.

Book excerpt: Doctoral Thesis / Dissertation from the year 2014 in the subject Business economics - Operations Research, course: PhD Commerce, language: English, abstract: This research was carried out with the objective of establishing the challenges faced by small and medium scale entrepreneurs in their efforts to adopt strategic management in their value chains. A review of relevant literature revealed that strategic management is a very important approach that all businesses need, no matter their size, in order to enhance effectiveness. It is known to support professionalism, profitability and sustainable value addition when applied according to best practice. Quantitative and qualitative approaches to data gathering were applied to enable the researcher to establish a richer picture of the exact situation on the ground. Quantitative data were collected from a sample of 292 respondents while qualitative data were obtained from a sample of 127 key informants and stakeholders. Drawing inspiration from the survival strategies of the chameleon, the researcher postulated the Chameleon Survival Strategy Model for small and medium-scale enterprises. The model was then used as a benchmark in the analysis of quantitative data, which were treated using the statistical package for the social sciences (SPSS) and qualitative data, which were content analysed. The chameleon survival strategy was used as the standard to assess the extent to which small and medium scale enterprises were compliant with the fundamentals of strategic management as exhibited by the chameleon in its environment. The key findings were that SMEs failed the Chameleon Survival Strategy Model test, based on the overall value of the model's index obtained after data analysis. It was observed that SMEs did not practice strategic management and were therefore not consistent with the chameleon survival strategies, outlined in the model's seven attributes. The conclusions drawn, recommendations and implications of th
