This book was released on 2015-07-26 with total page 172 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Early Lee County, Being Some Chapters in the History, of the Early Days in Lee County, Illinois This is not an effort to write a history of any man or any locality. The sole purpose of the work is the collection and preservation of the scarce and almost inaccessible evidence of some of the men and events prominent in the early days of Lee County. It was not prepared to sustain any theory or tradition, but every effort within my power has been made to learn all the facts concerning these men and events and state them correctly. Some old traditions have been shattered, but they were not sustained by the facts, and many of them had no foundation except the loose talk of persons who were ignorant of the matters of which they spoke. Some of my old beliefs, held and cherished since early childhood, have been dispelled, but they were founded upon misinformation. Reference is made to some public record, report or document whenever one could be found. When such evidence could not be had, my resort was to newspapers, private letters or records or books written or published about that time, in the belief that such contemporaneous statements are more likely to be free from error than those made years afterwards. In some instances the private records and the public records differ, and the latter are followed, the entries being contemporaneous with the event. Every statement of fact is based on evidence of one of the kinds mentioned, though references have been omitted in some places. All Indian words appearing on John Dixon's account books are given in the form used there. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book Synopsis Family Maps of Lee County, Illinois, Deluxe Edition by : Gregory A. Boyd
Download or read book Family Maps of Lee County, Illinois, Deluxe Edition written by Gregory A. Boyd and published by . This book was released on 2010-05-20 with total page 338 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 338 pages with 71 total maps Locating original landowners in maps has never been an easy task-until now. This volume in the Family Maps series contains newly created maps of original landowners (patent maps) in what is now Lee County, Illinois, gleaned from the indexes of the Illinois State Archives. But it offers much more than that. For each township in the county, there are two additional maps accompanying the patent map: a road map and a map showing waterways, railroads, and both modern and many historical city-centers and cemeteries. Included are indexes to help you locate what you are looking for, whether you know a person's name, a last name, a place-name, or a cemetery. The combination of maps and indexes are designed to aid researchers of American history or genealogy to explore frontier neighborhoods, examine family migrations, locate hard-to-find cemeteries and towns, as well as locate land based on legal descriptions found in old documents or deeds. The patent-maps are essentially plat maps but instead of depicting owners for a particular year, these maps show original landowners, no matter when the transfer from the federal government was completed. Dates of patents typically begin near the time of statehood and run into the early 1900s. What's Mapped in this book (that you'll not likely find elsewhere) . . . 5755 Parcels of Land (with original landowner names and patent-dates labeled in the relevant map) 53 Cemeteries plus . . . Roads, and existing Rivers, Creeks, Streams, Railroads, and Small-towns (including some historical), etc. What YEARS are these maps for? Here are the counts for parcels of land mapped, by the decade in which the patent applications were made: DecadeParcel-count 1830s3 1840s2443 1850s2409 1860s751 1870s805 1880s40 1890s10 1970s2 What Cities and Towns are in Lee County, Illinois (and in this book)?
