Book Synopsis A Unified Computational Fluid Dynamics Framework from Rarefied to Continuum Regimes by : Kun Xu
Download or read book A Unified Computational Fluid Dynamics Framework from Rarefied to Continuum Regimes written by Kun Xu and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2021-06-10 with total page 106 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This Element presents a unified computational fluid dynamics framework from rarefied to continuum regimes. The framework is based on the direct modelling of flow physics in a discretized space. The mesh size and time step are used as modelling scales in the construction of discretized governing equations. With the variation-of-cell Knudsen number, continuous modelling equations in different regimes have been obtained, and the Boltzmann and Navier-Stokes equations become two limiting equations in the kinetic and hydrodynamic scales. The unified algorithms include the discrete velocity method (DVM)–based unified gas-kinetic scheme (UGKS), the particlebased unified gas-kinetic particle method (UGKP), and the wave and particle–based unified gas-kinetic wave-particle method (UGKWP). The UGKWP is a multi-scale method with the particle for non-equilibrium transport and wave for equilibrium evolution. The particle dynamics in the rarefied regime and the hydrodynamic flow solver in the continuum regime have been unified according to the cell's Knudsen number.

Book Synopsis An Automated Design Optimization Tool for Electromagnetic Control of Hypersonic Flows by : Lei Tang
Download or read book An Automated Design Optimization Tool for Electromagnetic Control of Hypersonic Flows written by Lei Tang and published by . This book was released on 2005 with total page 34 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There has been computational work to analyze and control hypersonic flows using electromagnetic effects but no true effort has been pursued to automate the flow control process. The lack of a design framework that provides automated multi-disciplinary optimization (MDO) capabilities for this class of problems is the principal motivation for this work. This project develops the foundation of one of the principal components of such MDO environment. Control theory, which has already proved successful dealing with both aerodynamic shape and aero-structural optimization problems, is extended to magnetohydrodynamics (MND). The discrete adjoint approach emerges as the best suitable option to deal with the complex equations that govern MHD, and with the nature of the cost functions that may be used for relevant design problems. The equations governing the three-dimensional flow of a compressible conducting fluid in a magnetic field using the low magnetic Reynolds number approximation are solved with a gas-kinetic BGK scheme. Compared with the more conventional continuum CFD approach, a gas-kinetic CFD approach can be easily extended beyond the continuum regime.

Book Synopsis Lattice Boltzmann Method And Its Application In Engineering by : Zhaoli Guo
Download or read book Lattice Boltzmann Method And Its Application In Engineering written by Zhaoli Guo and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2013-03-25 with total page 419 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Lattice Boltzmann method (LBM) is a relatively new simulation technique for the modeling of complex fluid systems and has attracted interest from researchers in computational physics. Unlike the traditional CFD methods, which solve the conservation equations of macroscopic properties (i.e., mass, momentum, and energy) numerically, LBM models the fluid consisting of fictive particles, and such particles perform consecutive propagation and collision processes over a discrete lattice mesh. This book will cover the fundamental and practical application of LBM. The first part of the book consists of three chapters starting form the theory of LBM, basic models, initial and boundary conditions, theoretical analysis, to improved models. The second part of the book consists of six chapters, address applications of LBM in various aspects of computational fluid dynamic engineering, covering areas, such as thermo-hydrodynamics, compressible flows, multicomponent/multiphase flows, microscale flows, flows in porous media, turbulent flows, and suspensions. With these coverage LBM, the book intended to promote its applications, instead of the traditional computational fluid dynamic method.
