Book excerpt: The theory of knowledge, or epistemology, is often regarded as a dry topic that bears little relation to actual knowledge practices. Knowledge: The Philosophical Quest in History addresses this perception by showing the roots, developments and prospects of modern epistemology from its beginnings in the nineteenth century to the present day. Beginning with an introduction to the central questions and problems in theory of knowledge, Steve Fuller goes on to demonstrate that contemporary epistemology is enriched by its interdisciplinarity, analysing keys areas including: Epistemology as Cognitive Economics Epistemology as Divine Psychology Epistemology as Philosophy of Science Epistemology as Sociology of Science Epistemology and Postmodernism. A wide-ranging and historically-informed assessment of the ways in which man has - and continues to - pursue, question, contest, expand and shape knowledge, this book is essential reading anyone in the Humanities and Social Sciences interested in the history and practical application of epistemology.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Truth is ever to be found in simplicity and not in multiplicity and confusion of things. I have just three things to teach or say: to the contemporary Humans that simplicity, Patience and compassion are the three building blocks of humanity. Simplicity and humanity are the ultimate sophistications of human civilization. They are the essence of happiness since great acts are made up of small deeds. All I have is a sense of duty toward all people and attachment to those with whom I have become intimate. Thus the next evolutionary step for me that mankind is to be more from man to kind. Earth provides enough to satisfy every man’s need not everyman’s greed. Hence I have taken up writing books to mould other beings to be humans not as savage since we Hominids were savage in early stage and now it is high time to turn out ourselves into humans. Simplicity, which is the essence of happiness, is great act of humans for doing small deeds. Right from retirement as an Audit Officer from the Office of the Principal Accountant General Audit Andhra Pradesh Hyderabad, on 01-07-2003, I studied LL.B, at the evening age of 60 to 69 years while writing certain controversial books like (i)“ Human Life-A Philosophical Audit, (ii) We Think Therefore We Are”, (iii)“My Mind is My Mosque” (iv)“ Tears of Terrorism” (v) “After all Whose Life is It any Way?”( a book on Euthanasia) (vi)“Know your India-Open a new Page for writing Nationalism” (for India’s Nationalism) (vii) Paradise Lost ( a real life story of a Jihadists killing his own mother in Syria for the sake of Blessing of Paradise by the Allah) (viii) “Spicy Trade” (How India was subjected to Invasion by Arabs, Europeans and finally tampered One India into Three viz. Pakistan, India and Bangladesh, (ix) “Father Turns Monster” ( real story relating to a father to save his child by killing innocent peoples and plucked their organs like Lungs and Heart and used for Transplantation and replacement of his sons Lungs and Heart”) (x) “Tridevi Trident” (story relating to three sisters killing their father who became Psycho in raping the children including themselves and this is also a real story). I normally portray in a books only facts not fiction, poetry and no fairy tails. My aim is let the decide what is fact and what fiction and develop his personality accordingly since what ever that feels, perceives, desires expressions and emotions are all the offshoots of the Brain. The meaning of life is to take birth, to grow, to feed, to develop energy, procreate children and finally to die and merge into the womb of Earth as a piece of nuclei. That is it! Hence I did not show craze for the monetary returns but only to show the people how the realm of our Society is inflamed with monetary gains. This my story in short.
Download or read book The Path written by Michael Puett and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2016-04-05 with total page 240 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For the first time, an award-winning Harvard professor shares his wildly popular course on classical Chinese philosophy, showing you how ancient ideas—like the fallacy of the authentic self—can guide you on the path to a good life today. Why is a course on ancient Chinese philosophers one of the most popular at Harvard? Because it challenges all our modern assumptions about what it takes to flourish. Astonishing teachings emerged two thousand years ago through the work of a succession of Chinese scholars exploring how humans can improve themselves and their society. And what are these counterintuitive ideas? Transformation comes not from looking within for a true self, but from creating conditions that produce new possibilities. Good relationships come not from being sincere and authentic, but from the rituals we perform within them. A good life emerges not from planning it out, but through training ourselves to respond well to small moments. Influence comes not from wielding power but from holding back. Excellence comes from what we choose to do, not our natural abilities. In other words, The Path “opens the mind” (Huffington Post) and upends everything we are told about how to lead a good life. Its most radical idea is that there is no path to follow in the first place—just a journey we create anew at every moment by seeing and doing things differently. “With its…spirited, convincing vision, revolutionary new insights can be gleaned from this book on how to approach life’s multifarious situations with both heart and head” (Kirkus Reviews). A note from the publisher: To read relevant passages from the original works of Chinese philosophy, see our ebook Confucius, Mencius, Laozi, Zhuangzi, Xunzi: Selected Passages, available wherever books are sold.

Book Synopsis Praxiology and the Philosophy of Technology by : Wojciech W. Gasparski
Download or read book Praxiology and the Philosophy of Technology written by Wojciech W. Gasparski and published by Transaction Publishers. This book was released on 2011-12-31 with total page 305 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Technology is a crucial feature of the modern world, and human beings are necessarily technological creatures. Our goal must be to use technology effectively, efficiently, and ethically. We have hands that are adept at using tools, and intelligence that guides our actions. We also have desires and emotions that motivate us to achieve more and more, never allowing us to stop. From the viewpoint of praxiology, technology does not exist merely to satisfy the human need in an effective and efficient way. The problems of the modern world and the questions we must ask with respect to technology and how it is used are complicated and demanding. They may initially seem mysterious, perhaps even partly subconscious. In this fifteenth volume of a distinguished international series, contributors address essential questions about the philosophy and ethics of technology. Their intention is to point out the road not only to its better applications but also to its greater understanding. The first part of the book addresses general questions about the theory of technology. The second part of the volume focuses on special topics like information and communication technologies and work systems, as well as the foundations of problem solving and the history of innovation in the age of enlightenment. The third part of the book is on ethical judgments. It emphasizes the importance of ethics in the application of technology and, especially, when we commercialize it in order to meet the needs of the people in a free market society. This volume offers its reader a balanced picture of the state of the art of theoretical and applied issues in technology research--emphasizing the praxiological perspective that characterizes the entire series.

Book Synopsis Forgiveness Confronts Race, Relationships, and the Social by : Court D. Lewis
Download or read book Forgiveness Confronts Race, Relationships, and the Social written by Court D. Lewis and published by Vernon Press. This book was released on 2022-07-05 with total page 256 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 'Forgiveness Confronts Race, Relationships, and the Social', Volume V of Vernon Press’s The Philosophy of Forgiveness series, is an exercise in listening. Listening to others, and not just waiting for them to stop speaking, requires a willingness to recognize the worth of the other and to believe that what they say is worthy of consideration. Much like reading a book, one must strive to quiet the constant voice in one’s head in order to hear and process the information communicated. Listening is not always easy, and it takes considerable practice, but it is one of the most effective means for developing understanding and growing as an intellectual and moral person. Literature dealing with forgiveness lacks many important voices, including those from First Peoples, African American, LatinX, and LGTBQ+ , and many others, and the authors of 'Forgiveness Confronts Race, Relationships, and the Social' begin the task of closing these gaps, discussing topics from folk and other social and political issues to racism, systems of oppression, and religion. The authors were asked to explore forgiveness from their own understandings of underrepresented aspects of forgiveness, and readers will hopefully be enlightened and inspired to make their own diverse voices of forgiveness heard, creating a true dialogue of diversity and wisdom.
