This book was released on 2018-04-25 with total page 68 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book excerpt: This text is, in short, is a result of interdisciplinary, a sample of how Ecuadorian university teachers have internalized the need to use the most current forms of communication, in this case of putting computer science at the service of teaching the foreign language . The excellence of this book lies precisely in the updated methodology it proposes for the use of an educational media - the interactive whiteboard - which is very much in line with the demands and competences of young people in the digital age.

Book excerpt: This book draws on theories of second language acquisition (SLA) to illustrate how interactive white board technology can be exploited to support language acquisition. It examines interaction, collaboration and negotiation of meaning and focus on form in the communicative language classroom in primary, secondary and vocational schools. In recent years new technologies have been incorporated into second and foreign language education as tools for implementing teaching methodologies. IWBs have established their role in the field of computer-assisted language learning (CALL) and are an effective and inspiring tool which motivates both teachers and learners. Although the number of IWBs in classrooms has rapidly increased over the past decade in many parts of the world, teacher training materials and pedagogical support for the design, evaluation and implementation of IWB-based materials in the foreign language classroom has not kept pace. Research also shows that language teachers do not always use IWBs in pedagogically sound ways. There is a real need for the development of training models and examples of good practice which can support teachers in developing the necessary competencies for exploiting the IWB in ways consistent with current theories of language teaching pedagogy. This book provides that best practice and gives a full account of in-depth research in an accessible manner.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Improving Classroom Learning with ICT examines the ways in which ICT can be used in the classroom to enhance teaching and learning in different settings and across different subjects. Weaving together evidence of teachers’ and learners’ experiences of ICT, the authors: explain why the process of integrating ICT is not straightforward; discuss whether hardware and infrastructure alone are sufficient to ensure full integration and exploitation of ICT investment; emphasise the pivotal role that teachers play in supporting learning with ICT across the curriculum; argue that teachers need a greater understanding of how to put ICT to use in teaching and learning; highlight that out-of-school use of ICT has an impact on in-school learning; consider what kinds of professional development are most effective in supporting teachers to use technologies creatively and productively. Case studies are used to illustrate key issues and to elaborate a range of theoretical ideas that can be used in the classroom. This book will be of interest to all those concerned with maximising the benefits of ICT in the classroom.

Book excerpt: The present book has been written for teachers and students of English as a second language (L2, henceforth) and considers the three educational levels, namely, school, college and university. They will find it as a useful resource since it provides readers with insights, suggestions and approaches to implement the so-called Information and Communication Technology (ICT, henceforth) tools to develop the four language skills, namely, reading, writing, listening and speaking, along with a grammar knowledge. More specifically, this book will contribute to help L2 English teachers in designing creative and motivating lesson plans in which L2 English students will learn English through the use of ICT tools while developing several competences such as the digital competence, the learning to learn (that is to say, they learn by doing), autonomy and an active role given they are responsible for their own learning. In this student-centred approach, the teacher is a guide and a facilitator of resources. The resources described in this book will foster L2 English teachers and L2 English learning to consider that lesson plans are more effective when the teacher has determined the learning and teaching objectives for both ICT and English. A detailed explanation regarding how each ICT tool functions is provided in the corresponding chapters so that L2 English teachers are able to build standing selection criteria when applying each ICT tool in the classroom.

Book excerpt: A major theme of this book is the use of computers for supporting collaborative learning. This is not surprising since computer-supported collaborative learning has become both a widespread educational practice and a main domain of research. Moreover, collaborative learning has deep roots in Asian educational traditions. Given the large number of researchers within this field, its scope has become very broad. Under this umbrella, one finds a variety of more specific topics such as: interaction analysis, collaboration scripts (e.g. the Jigsaw script), communities of practice, sociocognitive conflict resolution, cognitive apprenticeship, various tools for argumentation, online discussion or collaborative drawing tools (whiteboards), collaborative writing and the role of facilitators. Most research work on collaborative learning focuses on interactions rather than on the contents of environments, which had been the focus in the previous decades of learning technology research. However, there is no reason to focus on one aspect to the detriment of the other. The editors are pleased that the selected papers also cover multiple issues related to the storage, representation and retrieval of knowledge: ontologies for learning environments and the semantic web, knowledge bases and data mining, meta-data and content management systems, and so forth. This publication also reveals a growing interest for non-verbal educational material, namely pictures and video materials, which are already central to new popular web-based applications. This book includes contributions that bridge both research tracks, the one focusing on interactions and the other on contents: the pedagogical use of digital portfolios, both for promoting individual reflections and for scaffolding group interactions.

Book excerpt: As English Language is gaining in prominence as the international language of trade and industry, there is an outcry by the private sector in Malaysia and other third world countries that students graduating from schools cannot fit into the job market because of poor English communication skills. Little is really known on factors that contribute to low communicative competence in English Language and the impact and integration of ICT tools in English Language teaching and learning. Against this concern, this study was undertaken with the purpose to unfold and understand the need for integration of ICT tools in the teaching and learning of oral communication skills. The study further examines the benefits of integrating ICT tools, the success factors and obstacles encountered by teachers in ICT integration. A Virtual English Language Tool (VELT) had been created to show how ICT integrated activities together with the use of instant messaging tools can improve the oral proficiency of students. This study would be of particular interest to TESL teacher trainers as well as in-service teachers who encounter problems in teaching oral communication skills.
