Book excerpt: We have become a pro-cancer society and our environment (internal and external) is both the cause of diseases and the key to our health. Most of what industrials sell us is carcinogenic, from the toxic processed food and food-by products, pesticides, food preservatives, antibiotics in our meat, plastic particles in our water, mercury in our fish, air, water and soils pollution, stress, lack of physical activities, toxic relationships, over consumption of medical drugs, over-vaccinations, hours of seating in front of a screen, and much more... Yes, we have become a sick and pro-cancer society. But the good news is, it is easy to make just a few changes to improve our health and our lives. In September 2020, a few weeks before my 48th birthday, I was diagnosed with stage-3 genetic colon cancer. Against all odds, I took a leap of faith and decided to treat myself naturally, without destroying my body or my immune system. This book will teach you how I did it.

Book excerpt: Follow along as this New York Times bestselling author details the astonishing scientific discovery of the code to unleashing the human immune system to fight in this "captivating and heartbreaking" book (The Wall Street Journal). For decades, scientists have puzzled over one of medicine's most confounding mysteries: Why doesn't our immune system recognize and fight cancer the way it does other diseases, like the common cold? As it turns out, the answer to that question can be traced to a series of tricks that cancer has developed to turn off normal immune responses -- tricks that scientists have only recently discovered and learned to defeat. The result is what many are calling cancer's "penicillin moment," a revolutionary discovery in our understanding of cancer and how to beat it. In The Breakthrough, New York Times bestselling author of The Good Nurse Charles Graeber guides readers through the revolutionary scientific research bringing immunotherapy out of the realm of the miraculous and into the forefront of twenty-first-century medical science. As advances in the fields of cancer research and the human immune system continue to fuel a therapeutic arms race among biotech and pharmaceutical research centers around the world, the next step -- harnessing the wealth of new information to create modern and more effective patient therapies -- is unfolding at an unprecedented pace, rapidly redefining our relationship with this all-too-human disease. Groundbreaking, riveting, and expertly told, The Breakthrough is the story of the game-changing scientific discoveries that unleash our natural ability to recognize and defeat cancer, as told through the experiences of the patients, physicians, and cancer immunotherapy researchers who are on the front lines. This is the incredible true story of the race to find a cure, a dispatch from the life-changing world of modern oncological science, and a brave new chapter in medical history.

Book excerpt: We have all heard stories of apparently miraculous recoveries from terminal cancer, but are any of these accounts true? Absolutely. Medical journals have published thousands of case histories about seemingly incurable patients who have seen their cancers disappear in the absence of medical treatment. These examples of spontaneous regression demonstrate the power of the human immune system. It can cure cancer. In recent years cancer survival rates have improved, but a related statistic has worsened. While patients are surviving longer, a person is more likely to die from cancer today than fifty years ago. The increase in mortality rates is in part due to cancer treatments introduced since 1950 that damage the immune system. To reverse this trend, new treatments are needed that stimulate the latent power of the immune system. This sounds like cutting-edge science, but the first immune therapy for cancer is more than one hundred years old. Even more surprising, this historical therapy is considered the equal of modern cancer treatments in terms of five-year survival, and superior in terms of long-term cure. In 1891, a young New York doctor named William Coley encountered a case of spontaneous regression following an accidental infection. In the belief that a deliberate infection might also induce the body to rid itself of cancer, Coley injected a terminally ill patient with a virulent strain of bacteria. The patient suffered an attack of infectious disease lasting more than a week. By the time the infection subsided, the cancerous tumors had begun to break down and within a few weeks the cancer had entirely disappeared. In an age when most doctors practiced surgery, Coley's minimally invasive therapy had many detractors. Others considered the new therapy impractical because it was most effective when treatments continued for up to a year or more. With the introduction of fast-acting radiation therapy at the turn of the century, the use of Coley's therapy became even less popular, and with the rise of chemotherapy in the 1950s, the first cancer therapy that induced the power of the immune system all but vanished. From the perspective of the immune system and in non-technical language, the author describes the convoluted history and future promise of cancer treatments, and explores the roles of genetics, diet, lifestyle, infection and the power of the mind, in the development, prevention, and spontaneous regression of cancer.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Optimal Terrain Ten Protocol to Reboot Cellular Health Since the beginning of the twentieth century, cancer rates have increased exponentially--now affecting almost 50 percent of the American population. Conventional treatment continues to rely on chemotherapy, surgery, and radiation to attack cancer cells. Yet research has repeatedly shown that 95 percent of cancer cases are directly linked to diet and lifestyle. The Metabolic Approach to Cancer is the book we have been waiting for--it offers an innovative, metabolic-focused nutrition protocol that actually works. Naturopathic, integrative oncologist and cancer survivor Dr. Nasha Winters and nutrition therapist Jess Higgins Kelley have identified the ten key elements of a person's "terrain" (think of it as a topographical map of our body) that are crucial to preventing and managing cancer. Each of the terrain ten elements--including epigenetics, the microbiome, the immune system, toxin exposures, and blood sugar balance--is illuminated as it relates to the cancer process, then given a heavily researched and tested, non-toxic and metabolic, focused nutrition prescription. The metabolic theory of cancer--that cancer is fueled by high carbohydrate diets, not "bad" genetics--was introduced by Nobel Prize-laureate and scientist Otto Warburg in 1931. It has been largely disregarded by conventional oncology ever since. But this theory is resurging as a result of research showing incredible clinical outcomes when cancer cells are deprived of their primary fuel source (glucose). The ketogenic diet--which relies on the body's production of ketones as fuel--is the centerpiece of The Metabolic Approach to Cancer. Further, Winters and Kelley explain how to harness the anticancer potential of phytonutrients abundant in low-glycemic plant and animal foods to address the 10 hallmarks of cancer--an approach Western medicine does with drug based therapies. Their optimized, genetically-tuned diet shuns grains, legumes, sugar, genetically modified foods, pesticides, and synthetic ingredients while emphasizing whole, wild, local, organic, fermented, heirloom, and low-glycemic foods and herbs. Other components of their approach include harm-reductive herbal therapies like mistletoe (considered the original immunotherapy and common in European cancer care centers) and cannabinoids (which shrink tumors and increase quality of life, yet are illegal in more than half of the United States). Through addressing the ten root causes of cancer and approaching the disease from a nutrition-focused standpoint, we can slow cancer's endemic spread and live optimized lives.

With both a growing family and business--and given that their doctors promised only to briefly extend his life with chemotherapy--the Stamps gave a resounding "No" to chemo and radiation. 90 Days to Live recounts the Stamps' incredible and inspirational journey to find an alternative answer to cancer. In the end... They'd beaten cancer while building a million-dollar business. Following his ALL-natural protocol religiously, Rodney's cancer went into full remission. On top of that triumph, he took his fire-and-safety business--which had just begun to take off when he'd received his cancer diagnosis--into a million-dollar enterprise. Alternately heart-wrenching and heartwarming--and delivered in an engaging dual-author format--90 Days to Live will speak to anyone struggling with an "incurable" disease, building a business under trying circumstances, or anyone who just loves a good old-fashioned, "beating-the-odds" story.

Book excerpt: There were 17 million new cases of cancer worldwide in 2018. And, it's predicted that worldwide, there will be 27.5 million new cases of cancer each year by 2040. Many would rightfully say those kinds of numbers represent epidemic levels. With all of those incidences of cancer happening, when most people think about fighting back against cancer, they think about beefing up for the physical aspects of the fight. Or, they think about beefing up in the area of their diet and fitness regimen. They even think about bolstering their immune system. There's nothing wrong with endeavoring to make those improvements. Most doctors will even advise their patients to endeavor to improve their health in these ways. But there's another vital area that is seldom thought about by the average patient or doctor, an area that few realize will offer something tangible to the fight against cancer - the area of our FAITH! On July 20th, 2012, I was diagnosed with late stage multiple myeloma, bone marrow cancer. By the time it struck me down, the disease had progressed to the point that it had partially paralyzed me; a turn of events that left me completely bedridden. Arriving at the hospital in this condition, 8 out of 9 doctors predicted that medicine would be of no help to me. The prognoses they gave me, I wouldn't live more than 6 months and I would never walk again. What those doctors didn't know was that I had a firm grasp on how to wield the power of FAITH and complete mastery of the God-given, 8-principle formula that would help me unleash that power to save my life. Through the use of that formula and by the grace of God, I beat that cancer. Now sitting here as a more than 7 year cancer survivor, I know that you can fight and beat cancer. I have also had the occasion to personally meet and interview 30 other cancer survivors who are telling the same tale. To a person, each of these men/women described FAITH power as one of the main elements of their victory over cancer and I agree. I agree because I not only beat cancer, to be exact, I beat a Bone Marrow cancer with just one round of chemotherapy, one round of radiation and NO BONE MARROW TRANSPLANT. That's how I KNOW I BEAT cancer with FAITH and YOU can too!!! In the book "I BEAT CANCER WITH FAITH & YOU CAN TOO" I will use F.A.I.T.H. as an acronym to share some of the working principles of FAITH that God revealed to me through the wisdom of FAITH (APPLIED) nearly 25 years ago. Applying these principles to a battle with cancer will allow you to activate the kind of FAITH that's allowed me and others to beat cancer - just as it will allow you to.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Winner of the Pulitzer Prize and a documentary from Ken Burns on PBS, this New York Times bestseller is “an extraordinary achievement” (The New Yorker)—a magnificent, profoundly humane “biography” of cancer—from its first documented appearances thousands of years ago through the epic battles in the twentieth century to cure, control, and conquer it to a radical new understanding of its essence. Physician, researcher, and award-winning science writer, Siddhartha Mukherjee examines cancer with a cellular biologist’s precision, a historian’s perspective, and a biographer’s passion. The result is an astonishingly lucid and eloquent chronicle of a disease humans have lived with—and perished from—for more than five thousand years. The story of cancer is a story of human ingenuity, resilience, and perseverance, but also of hubris, paternalism, and misperception. Mukherjee recounts centuries of discoveries, setbacks, victories, and deaths, told through the eyes of his predecessors and peers, training their wits against an infinitely resourceful adversary that, just three decades ago, was thought to be easily vanquished in an all-out “war against cancer.” The book reads like a literary thriller with cancer as the protagonist. Riveting, urgent, and surprising, The Emperor of All Maladies provides a fascinating glimpse into the future of cancer treatments. It is an illuminating book that provides hope and clarity to those seeking to demystify cancer.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Some people suffer from chronic, debilitating disorders for which no conventional treatment brings relief. Can marijuana ease their symptoms? Would it be breaking the law to turn to marijuana as a medication? There are few sources of objective, scientifically sound advice for people in this situation. Most books about marijuana and medicine attempt to promote the views of advocates or opponents. To fill the gap between these extremes, authors Alison Mack and Janet Joy have extracted critical findings from a recent Institute of Medicine study on this important issue, interpreting them for a general audience. Marijuana As Medicine? provides patientsâ€"as well as the people who care for themâ€"with a foundation for making decisions about their own health care. This empowering volume examines several key points, including: Whether marijuana can relieve a variety of symptoms, including pain, muscle spasticity, nausea, and appetite loss. The dangers of smoking marijuana, as well as the effects of its active chemical components on the immune system and on psychological health. The potential use of marijuana-based medications on symptoms of AIDS, cancer, multiple sclerosis, and several other specific disorders, in comparison with existing treatments. Marijuana As Medicine? introduces readers to the active compounds in marijuana. These include the principal ingredient in Marinol, a legal medication. The authors also discuss the prospects for developing other drugs derived from marijuana's active ingredients. In addition to providing an up-to-date review of the science behind the medical marijuana debate, Mack and Joy also answer common questions about the legal status of marijuana, explaining the conflict between state and federal law regarding its medical use. Intended primarily as an aid to patients and caregivers, this book objectively presents critical information so that it can be used to make responsible health care decisions. Marijuana As Medicine? will also be a valuable resource for policymakers, health care providers, patient counselors, medical faculty and studentsâ€"in short, anyone who wants to learn more about this important issue.
