Book excerpt: "Vividly written...Their story is thrilling—the kind of tale that wild-animal lovers won't easily forget."—People In this riveting real-life adventure, Mark and Delia Owens tell the dramatic story of their last years in Africa, fighting to save elephants, villagers, and—in the end—themselves. The award-winning zoologists and pioneering conservationists describe their work in the remote and ruggedly beautiful Luangwa Valley, in northeastern Zambia. There they studied the mysteries of the elephant population’s recovery after poaching, discovering remarkable similarities between humans and elephants. A young elephant named Gift provided the clue to help them crack the animals’ secret of survival. A stirring portrait of life in Africa, Secrets of the Savanna is a remarkable record of the Owenses's unique passions.

Book excerpt: In the not too distant future, the Dark Continent has changed. It's become Federal Africa, with all of the old countries now united into one great nation. The separate tribes are gone, technology has boomed ... it is a very modern place. But if you think that it's completely changed, meet Lieutenant Abel Enetame of the Zimbabwe State Police Force, a single father with a great deal on his plate. He doesn't only have the usual crimes to deal with, murders, assassinations, kidnappings. There are violent Black Supremacists. There are fanatics like the Tribalists, who want to take the whole place back to the old days. And there are egotistic billionaires and power-crazy politicians. And when those kinds of people start getting their hands on brand-new devices that can do startling things, like change the past, for instance ... well, that's when the sparks really start to fly. Because the future of the whole of modern Africa might well rely on one police detective."Man, this guy can write!" - Ed Gorman."A terrific storyteller" - Graham Joyce."A terrific writer. A unique and eloquent voice" - editor John Pelan.

This book was released on 2013-04-12 with total page 122 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Question: What does Mau Mau mean? Answer: The name "Mau Mau" was never used by the Kikuyu themselves, and did not exist in their language. In general, they called themselves the "Land Freedom Army," or the "Freedom Struggle Association." It was used as part of a psychological operations campaign by the British in an attempt to demonize the Kikuyu people, make them less than human, and easier to hate and kill. Some Kikuyu Elders say that the name "Mau Mau" was really "Uma Uma" ("out out - to get out"), a code word based on a secret-language game the Kikuyu boys played at the time of their circumcision. General China, a former Mau Mau leader explained that the native word for "Oath" is "Muma," but because of its pronunciation the Europeans wrote it as "Mau Mau." The leader of the movement, Dedan Kimathi, was opposed to the use of the term Mau Mau to describe the guerrillas. He called them The Kenya Land and Freedom Army (KLFA).

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the heart of south-central Africa there are remains of monuments, ruined cities, temples, forts, irrigation terraces reminiscent of the classic civilizations of the Egyptians and Phoenicians. Yet despite having first been investigated by the Royal Geographical Society a century ago the Zimbabwe (stone courts) culture remains all but unknown to the world at large. This book reveals how the truth about the Zimbabwe culture has been radically influenced, indeed suppressed, throughout history by white and black political interests, struggling to redefine Zimbabwe's identity.
